Antiquities appraiser Annalisse Drury drives to her family farm in upstate New York to consult with Aunt Kate about her troubled relationship with Greek tycoon, Alec Zavos. When Annalisse arrives, she learns the beloved farm she expects to inherit is for sale.

That same morning, they find a stranger’s body decaying in the barn. Then her aunt vanishes.

In Spent Identity, Annalisse and Alec join forces for the second time. They must find the mastermind behind her aunt’s abduction before Kate’s health issues worsen. Was the corpse in the barn a coincidence or a warning? The clock ticks for Annalisse to find her aunt and repair what she has left with the man she loves.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

The most difficult part about writing the Annalisse Series is setting up the foreshadowing for plot twists where they make sense to the reader. I like to hold the reader from guessing who the villain is and how each book will end. SPENT IDENTITY is full of twisty sections in the story!

What songs are most played on your iPod?

I’m a child of the 1960’s and ‘70’s with its vinyl LP’s, tapes and CD’s. I’ve never used an iPod and don’t own one. Once in a while, Spotify in the background on my PC may add some inspiration to my writing, but for the most part, I prefer complete silence as I write. In the case of music for ambience, each scene will dictate the kind of music I listen to. Soft instrumental jazz is my favorite overall music standard while sitting at the keyboard.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes, but I now limit the number of advance readers prior to publication for all of my new books. STOLEN OBSESSION had soooo many beta readers, critiques and edits over eight long years. Too many, I realized. Lots of cooks DO ruin the stew if you’re not careful. Readers and editors have personal pet peeves, and every person will find fault in different sections or conflict in the same chapters— enough to make a writer crazy, rewriting paragraphs. The process is so subjective that I usually stick with one consistent critique partner and three to four editors— from developmental to substantive to copyediting and a proofread. I tend to self-edit entirely too much as it is. I’m working on that.

What book are you reading now?

One of my editors recommended that I read the first three books in the coffeehouse mysteries by Cleo Coyle. I’m a couple of chapters into book one, ON WHAT GROUNDS. It seems that readers of series books like to have quite a bit of backstory woven into each book to catch up on the earlier action. These coffeehouse books will be useful to see how Ms. Coyle drops breadcrumbs in small bits along the way in her series without a feeling of spoilers. Just enough backstory— in case readers haven’t read the first of my books and beyond.

How did you start your writing career?

In the early 1990’s when my husband and I were the Community Leaders for a local 4-H group in Bakersfield, CA, many of the parents asked me to write a book on raising sheep. (We are Horned Dorset sheep breeders.) In 2009, purely for fun, I published AMONG THE SHEEP in an unusual way, blending my personal journal stories with a how-to-raise-sheep section at the back of the book. The memoir is currently out of print because it was more of a bucket-list item for friends and family, not particularly suitable for the basic sheep raiser who is after animal husbandry tips. I’ve considered rewriting that book in a more straightforward manner and launching it in the future, in my spare time! My journey into authoring romantic mysteries began in 2010 with book one, STOLEN OBSESSION.

Tell us about your next release.

The third book in the Annalisse series is called, CALICO RAVEN. Main characters, Annalisse Drury and Alec Zavos travel to the Cayman Islands and Italy on a quest to find out more about Alec’s deceased father, Pearce Zavos. Their plans are complicated when they encounter a murdered woman on the island. The bad publicity ends the sale of Alec’s family business and throws his relationship with Annalisse into another round of turmoil. Stay tuned for more “REVEAL REALITY” tabloid mischief, and meet a quirky Mafia mob boss who’ll go to great lengths to find a calico cat and keep his family secrets buried.

New Release Blitz from @RABTBookTours: A Man Devoured by His Body, Food & Work #newrelease #releaseday #excerpt #promo #nonfiction #selfhelp #eatingdisorder

Non-Fiction / Self-Help / Eating Disorders & Body Image
Date Published: January 15, 2020
Publisher: CS Publishing Ltd.

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

For 40-plus years the author battled with attitudes, beliefs and behaviors that are commonly labeled as symptoms of three psychological disorders: muscle dysmorphia, orthorexia, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). The consequences were grave. This book explains Stuart’s struggles and self-inquiry, and then describes the five elements of his psychological healing. Each element helped him, but their synergism profoundly improved his mental health, his relationships, his physical health, and his overall life.

This book isn't targeted only at male bodybuilders and other exercise enthusiasts. The great difficulties Stuart dealt with are experienced by millions of men and women who struggle with their body-image and/or eating, and/or who are tormented by perfectionism or workaholism. His success story may inspire any of those people to start their own self-inquiries that lead to their own success stories.

Excerpt

This is Stuart, author of A MAN DEVOURED BY HIS BODY, FOOD & WORK. I have a story to tell only because I survived my mental torment, recognized I had a serious problem, sought help, and turned my life around.

Men are less likely to admit to mental health problems than women. And men are also less likely to take action to help themselves. Women outnumber men among therapy and counseling clients.

With the right therapy, those with mental health problems can cope and lead rewarding lives. I experienced the therapy myself with great success. But it had nothing to do with psychiatric drugs and institutions. (I’ve never taken psychiatric drugs, and nor was I ever prescribed any.) There were five elements of my overall therapy and healing. The first was talk therapy with a properly trained and licensed therapist. This book includes my session notes—a real-life case study. What I learned from some influential books led to three other elements of my overall therapy and healing. And the self-therapy from writing this book—writing therapy, or expressive therapy, or writing cure—was another element that contributed to my overall progress.

I was (and still am) a highly involved participant in my overall therapy. My self-inquiry produced self-awareness, self-knowledge, self-understanding and healing, which enabled me to take true control of myself.

This book details the five elements of my psychological self-care. Each helped me, but their synergism profoundly changed me for the better.

My journey may especially resonate with readers who have problems related to body-image issues, food, or “perfectionism” and/or “workaholism.” Of course, each reader has travelled a unique path with a particular background, which I can never know. But perhaps through reading my story, readers may be inspired to start their own self-inquiries that bring about their own realizations, self-awareness, self-knowledge, self-understanding, and healing. The particular process that worked for me may not work for others, but my story may help others find the processes that work for them.

I’m writing primarily to men, including young men in their teens. But many women also have mental health problems and may benefit from reading my story.

Memoir

Although her origins are in Nocedo del Valle, an agricultural village in Orense, a province of Galicia, Spain, Blanca De La Rosa was born in the Dominican Republic in the bosom of a humble family. But fate had something else in store for her.

Pursuing a Better Tomorrow is not just a novel that portrays the history of three generations, but rather an inspiring cross-generational journey from Spain to the United States. The novel details a historical overview and the ideologies of each era where the characters portray the strength of character required to achieve a better tomorrow given the twists, turns, and synchronistic events that shaped their lives.

De La Rosa candidly shares her coming-of-age story of self-discovery as she transitioned from New York City’s projects to corporate America, detailing her personal and professional journey.

This great novel will inspire you to believe in your abilities, dare to dream, and reach for your goals as you pursue a better tomorrow.

Are you ready to embark on this journey?

Interview

What was the hardest part of writing your book?

My personal story was the hardest to write as I struggled with what to include/exclude. I did not want to offend anyone or come off as a drama queen. Writing about yourself is like exposing yourself in the nude to the world.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I am a music lover but my favorites R&B songs. One can learn so much from these songs that speak to us about things that relate to our daily lives, love, give us strength and support when we need and at times can give us direction.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Both as each serves a very important role. One can give you professional input while the other can give you a feel for how the average reader will receive your work.

What book are you reading now?

I’m currently reading Rachel Maddow’s Blow Out.

How did you start your writing career?

I started writing and researching my novel in 2000 as a hobby. Since I had a demanding career and family, I’d work on it sporadically whenever I had the time and inspiration. I took a creative writing course at Northern Virginia University and was so discouraged that I put the manuscript down for about four years. What made me think I could write a book? But despite the experience that nagging voice in my head kept telling me I had to write and publish this book.

In 2012 I self-published Empower Yourself for an Amazing Career as a practice book to get a glimpse of the publishing world. In this book I share career advice, drawing heavily from corporate career.

I will definitely be writing another book but have not yet landed on the genre or topic. I have started a ‘Words to Live By’ short stories in which I use a cliché and pair it with a short story that gets to the wisdom and message of the phrase. I will use these stories in a blog and see how it develops from there.

Editors hate clichés and I agree they have no business in a novel, but I love clichés. They are succinct and get to the heart of the matter and point. For example, the simple cliché ‘"walk a mile in another's shoes." Those six words say so much about not being judgmental, coitizing another’s actions and motives, and being more tolerant.  I am fascinated by the art of creation, inspiration, empowerment of the written word

The war heats up as Cornwallis fortifies Yorktown and Carleton begins foraging raids in Gloucester County.

Then, while Lewis and his cousins, Lloyd and Tetty, are off to Gloucester Courthouse to try to sell enough tobacco to provide for the family, Carleton raids the farm and Stella receives a life-threatening injury.

Through battle, betrayal, unexpected alliances, and, apparently, the Hand ofGod, Lewis and his cousins and friends take a role in the events leading to Cornwallis’s surrender on October 19, 1781, after the last major battle of the Revolutionary War.

Interview

Thanks for having me today! I hope everyone has had a great holiday season and a wonderful start to the new year.

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Honestly, the whole part is challenging; I’m constantly editing as I go, as I can’t stand rewriting a book. (Every time a book is rewritten, it loses part of what made it charming and interesting to me, so I want to write it correctly the first time.) I have a great deal of fun with writing, but making sure the book is as ready as possible in my first and final draft is a major challenge.

Some writers need raw drafts; my first draft needs to be the final draft because of how I write. And that’s hard. (There’s so little room for error, and I have to make sure I adjust the entire book if something is changed. It’s tough!)

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

There’s a lot of 80s and 90s music kicking around my iTunes, as that’s what I grew up with. However, if I had to pick a few of my favorite musicians, I’d go with Pentatonix and the Piano Guys. I’ve also seen both groups live in concert! (I’m a bit of an addict.)

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have beta proofers, who mostly help find errors that slipped through in the initial stages of editing and proofreading. I heavily rely on my editor to help point out if something is inherently wrong with the book.

What book are you reading now?

Unfortunately, I’m between books! I’m not sure what I’ll be starting next. I have a very long TBR list, and I think I’m going to have to resort to rolling the dice to figure out what’s next on my list. I might go re-read some Ilona Andrews books, however. I always have a good time with those.

How did you start your writing career?

I lost my job. (I was laid off when the company downsized.) I needed something to do, as I was having trouble finding a new job. I decided to take writing seriously.

It worked. Color me relieved and very happy.

On January 28, 2020, I’ll be releasing Blood Bound: a Lowrance Vampires novel. Pepper was made into a vampire against her will, and to get back at the man who stole her life, she crawls from her grave and hunts miscreants—lowlife vampires who prey upon humans.

When Emerick Lowrance catches her, she’s dragged into a world of intrigue and uncertainty, as vampires have lost the ability to raise women from the dead. She’s the first woman to have survived the process in many years, making her a prize of the preternatural world.

Let’s just say she’s in a lot of trouble. It’s a fun story, and I’ve been loving working on it.

Thank you so much for having me!
