A bolt of lightning. And a dream of vengeance.

For wolf-demon Kari, these define her every waking moment. Her parents are dead, slaughtered by human hands, forcing their only daughter to masquerade among their killers to save her own skin. Now she dwells among them, hiding her lightning-based abilities and plotting a terrible revenge, believing her schemes are all she's good for now. But when she discovers unexpected solace among a group of humans who look past her monstrous nature, Kari finds herself questioning everything. Her mission. Her dreams. Even the hatred festering in her heart.

Is it possible for a creature like Kari to find happiness in a world that despises her?

Or will the specters of her past force her down the path of vengeance in the end?

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
Getting started! I can get a rough idea and be all excited about it, but as soon as I sit down to start writing, my head is suddenly full of distractions. Like Twitter.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

A mishmash of anime covers by Amalee and original songs based on anime by Divide Music! I think top right now is Amalee’s “Last Stardust.”

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have a few critique partners, and my brother. They all read my junk during and after my processes and I am sooososo grateful for all of them.

What book are you reading now?

I’m listening to Rick Riordan’s Son of Neptune on Audible right now! On the side, I’m also reading various indie books on Kindle.

How did you start your writing career?

I got on Twitter and thought “I want to join a publishing house.” I began making connections and learning the ropes as far as editing, querying, etc. on there.

Tell us about your next release.

Birth of the Storm! I’ve been working on this thing for like two decades. It’s the first in Kari the wolf demon’s series, where she meets a few close friends and some enemies and goes through a whole bunch of tribulation. I wrote Kari’s story to be a little note to others out there who feel lost, alone, or out of control sometimes.

Date Published: May 10, 2022

Publisher:  Serapis Bey Publishing

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Drs Lies Wouters, international organizational psychologist, advisor, trainer and team coach, based in the Netherlands, introduces her unique Metaphor Map and Metaphor Model of Psychological Safety in this, her first book published in English. She shines a new light on how all leaders across the world can use specific learnt skills to create teams where people thrive, when they understand that it is up to them to create the circumstances where people feel motivated, have fun and grow. She explains the neurobiology of our behaviour and its impact on performance, collaboration, creativity, happiness, productivity and so much more. Backed by relevant science, comprehensive research, real life examples and practical exercises this book takes you step by step through the underlying processes in your brain and body to develop the skills that ensure high performance. She reveals the significance of applying these skills in the world and how we can all play an important role in making this world better, where not only teams, but everyone can thrive.

Interview

Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?

I have been doing research on the topic of my book for 4 years now, and I have trained many leaders and teams on the topic. When I saw how big the impact was when people learned these skills, it made me realize that I wanted to help many more leaders and teams. I realized that by writing a book about this, I could reach many more people that could be helped, and also many people who could use this content to help others. I truly believe that these are the skills we need to take better care of ourselves, of the people around us and of our planet.

What surprised you most about getting your book published?

The first response of people when they heard about my book. Many people immediately said that the timing of the book is perfect because it is exactly what we, human beings, need right now. And not just human beings, but our entire planet.

Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing

I am a trainer and coach and I am doing scientific research. That means I am working a lot with people from all around the world to help them develop the skills to collaborate, communicate, and lead both themselves and others. I particularly love the moment where people get an insight in their own pattern, or in the pattern of the people around them and this insight changes the whole game. For example, a leader recently came to me and asked me to help him get through to others. During our coaching he realized that he often felt overwhelmed (without realizing it) and this worked as a barrier in his communication. After realizing this, he learned how to take care of himself in these moments and suddenly it was much easier for him to connect to the people he was working with. It is the small steps, and actually taking them, that makes all the difference.

As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?

That was the very first moment I was asked to write a book. I had never considered writing one until someone approached me to write a book together. That became my first book, which was in Dutch, and it opened the door for me to the possibility to write more.

Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?

I get my best ideas in nature. Whether it is outside on my bike (I live in the Netherlands after all), or in my garden, or on the beach. It is in times when I feel connected to both myself and to the world around me. Why I get my best ideas there? That goes back to the theory in my book. When I feel individually safe, my brain opens up and my creativity and innovative thinking are ‘switched on’.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

Honestly, I haven’t received and tough criticism. In case of my first book, some people said that it wasn’t really written for them and I believe that. You are either open to something at that point or you are not. Depending on where you are in your life and what you need, the book will speak to you or it will not. As for my second book there have been reviewers who said one of the chapters was too theoretical, while others said they loved that chapter the most. In general the reviews have been amazing and I am very grateful that readers always seem to find parts of the book that really speak to them.

What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?

I could say the fact that my book was nr 1 on the bestseller list on Amazon. However, there was a moment where I received a message from one of the readers of the book that topped that moment for me. This reader shared that after just one chapter he suddenly understood what was going wrong in his own work environment. It completely changed his approach and he was able to turn a bad situation into a situation where they grew closer together. That is for me the most beautiful gift and my best accomplishment.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

At the moment, none. I am sure there are still many more books in me, but at the moment I have my focus on my research and my work as executive coach and trainer. I train teams and leaders in international organizations, both online and offline on the skills that are mentioned in my book and participants receive a copy of the book at the end of the training to support them in further developing those skills. I look forward to supporting many more organizations in this way in the future.

Book Blitz: Eve, Where Are You? by Nicole L. Davis Ph.D #promo #christian #nonfiction #women #rabtbooktours @DrNicoleDavis1 @RABTBookTours @BookBuzznet

Confronting Toxic Practices Against the Advancement of Women

Christian Living, Women’s Issues

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Without question, having competent women in leadership can certainly enhance the vitality of any organization. Sadly, too often women are not given equal opportunities and are left doubting their sense of self and their abilities.

In Eve, Where Are You?, Dr. Nicole Davis uniquely evaluates bias practices within one specific organization: the Christian church. You’ll learn why many women are discouraged, emotionally absent, leaving churches, or considering giving up religious pursuits altogether. Within these pages, Dr. Davis thoughtfully contemplates the scriptural significance of God’s creation of Eve; compares women’s leadership advances in the marketplace and church; and shares real-life stories and perceptions about women in leadership offered by present-day church leaders.

As a conflict coach and resolutionist, Dr. Davis boldly addresses possible causal effects of toxic practices against women and then offers strategic solutions and guidance to both women and church organizations to facilitate reconciliation, creating opportunity for the church to regain influence and effectiveness in our culture.

Crisp, aggressive, and truthful, this study presents a call to action for women who want more, men who want more for women, and church organizations seeking to embrace internal transformation against gender bias in the Christian church. Also available in Spanish.

About the Author

Dr. Nicole Davis is a wife, mother, pastor, Christian life coach, social science researcher, and conflict resolution practioner, with over 20 years of professional experience. Her areas of research interest include gender inequality, organizational leadership, women empowerment, and family dynamics.

Dr. Davis believes there is a huge distinction between a woman’s calling, which is determined by God, and a church’s doctrine about the utilization of women, which is a cultural decision predominantly determined by men.

Dr. Davis advocates for churches of all denominations to begin having open dialogue about systemic oppression and alienation against women.  Those who show no regard for women’s callings or competency levels. Women need to be developed and commissioned to serve at the highest levels.

Dr. Davis examines the deep-rooted conflict concerning what God intended when He created Eve in the Garden of Eden. She asks poignant questions inviting women to explore how they see themselves based on God’s original plan for them.

Virtual Book Tour: Naturally Curly by Kristi Sanders Lasher #blogtour #interview #nonfiction #memoir #Rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

A Memoir

The complexities of a racially divided culture are too numerous to count, and with one glance around the globe, it is easy to see why no one is immune to its effects. With so many stories, personal experiences, and misunderstandings, it is all too much to contain and sort out. Thankfully, we serve a God who will do the sorting if we simply keep our eyes on Him. The One who truly knows us and sees us as we are understands our deeply rooted issues; there is no condemnation in Him.

In her memoir Naturally Curly, Kristi shares a true account of how she was nearly engulfed by a deeply rooted lie accepted by many in our country. Kristi takes you on a journey from her early years when the lie first took root in her life to its massive and subtle manifestations in adulthood, which culminated in God’s grand rescue. Finally, she thoughtfully explores some aspects of what she believes the racial divide means for the church.

Interview

Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?

I was reluctant to write this book. It is a story of my life that reveals secrets and hidden things that I held onto for years and was terrified to reveal. Beginning in 2018 through God’s grace, I started to understand how my “secret” was hindering me from a full life and from the One that I most desired. Through a series of events my heart was primed to face the realities. The events surrounding George Floyd’s death in 2020, is what pushed me over the edge. I knew it was time to lose my life and tell my story.

I knew nothing other than my story needed to be told. I never planned on or even desired to be an author, so I certainly knew nothing of the process of publishing. I inquired of as many people as I could. Eventually, I was introduced to a woman who helped me understand the different methods a book can be published. I decided that, given my circumstances, I would simply hire a company who knew what they were doing so they could help me.

I initially looked for a Christian organization since my book was faith based and was offered an opportunity to work with one, but for some reason I felt like I needed to wait. I’m glad that I did because on one of my family’s normal trips to a vacation spot in Colorado, I finished my book in our cabin. Only hours later, we had guests over who informed us that there was a gentlemen who had stayed there prior to our stay who was a publisher. Immediately, I knew that this was the route I needed to take. Without hesitation I reached out to his company and I was able to begin working with them.

What surprised you most about getting your book published? It surprises me that there’s still a lot of work the author has to do after writing. I thought that I would just write it, hand it off, and somebody else would do the rest of what was needed. But the need for transparency, communication, and interaction with others only increased. This is challenging for an introvert.

Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing. Like I said before, I never planned on being an author. I am a mom of three teenagers, and a wife to a wonderful man who is the pastor of our Baptist Church.  We do a lot of ministry, keeping up with our small Baptist church community and raise our three kids. This keeps me pretty busy. I have also recently gotten involved with acting and was a featured extra on The Chosen.

As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life? Publicly telling my story and owning it.

Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is? From the Holy Spirit. Because I do not know, what I don’t know, and what I do think I know is trumped when the word of God comes alive for me.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author? Not everyone thinks like I do. Part of this process in telling my story has revealed so much to me that, I realized I was the one mainly, believing the lie. I was accusing people of doing to me what I was doing.

What has been your best accomplishment as a writer? The ability to tell my story in an engaging, thorough way.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have? A lot! Probably 15 or 20. I had them all as blog posts at one time, but now I have taken them all down!

During the Great War, in a German-occupied Red Cross hospital in Brussels, Belgium, there are three British nurses who will risk everything to save the lives of those in their care. These are the stories of The War Girls.

Saving the Rifleman - British Red Cross nurse Maria Hunt lives in daily fear that the German soldiers who regularly inspect her hospital will uncover her secret: she helps wounded British soldiers escape German hands.

Enticing the Spymaster - Judith Goddard is hiding in plain sight. A dual citizen with family ties to Belgian royalty and the British military, she works as a Red Cross nurse in a German hospital, learning what she can, ever fearful her true allegiance will be discovered.

Aiding the Enemy - Rose Culver is in grave danger. For months the Red Cross hospital head nurse has been aiding Allied soldiers caught behind enemy lines, helping them flee into neutral Netherlands. It's only a matter of time until she's caught.

The War Girls is composed of three previously published novellas. This is the first time they have been published in one volume.

Excerpt

Chapter One

Brussels, Belgium

November, 1914

“Maria.”

Alarm rippled across Maria’s nerves, jerking her attention from the supply record book she was writing in.

Her teacher, mentor, and matron of the hospital on Rue de la Culture stood at the window, staring out at the street, her back straight and stiff.

“Rose?” Maria took a step toward her, but Rose’s voice stopped her before she could take another.

“Please take an inventory of the bandages in the closet on the second floor.” Her words were spoken with a deliberateness that should have been reassuring. It wasn’t. The other woman held herself too still, too rigid. “We’re about to have another friendly visit.”

“Germans?” Maria whispered, dread tightening its coils until she could barely breathe. “Again?”

Regular soldiers didn’t make her too uncomfortable; they appreciated the nurses who looked after their wounded countrymen, and they knew they could end up at this hospital and in her care. But the officers were another thing altogether. They looked at Maria and Rose as if the two of them were convicted criminals of the worst sort.

As if they were dirty.

Rose nodded.

“Lord preserve us.” The words slipped out before Maria could stop them. “When will this madness stop?”

Rose turned then, a rueful smile on her face. “I wish I knew. Go now and stay out of sight if you can.”

“But—”

“I’ll be fine. Dr. Geoff is still here. He’s as irritated with all these inspections as we are. They’re a constant interruption, and we have little enough time for our work as it is.”

Herman Geoff was a German doctor, but he treated Rose and even Maria with the utmost respect. His uncle was a high-ranking officer. Very high. As long as Dr. Geoff supported them, they would most likely remain safe.

If they did nothing to irritate or anger the local German troops. Something Maria feared she’d already done.

She rushed to the back stairs and climbed them quickly. Rose would be safe. The second daughter of minor gentry, she had demonstrated time and again her diplomatic skills were more than up to the task of dealing with arrogant, suspicious German officers.

Maria had none of those skills or family background.

The second floor was filled with bedrooms, now used as wards for their patients. There was also a room where the nurses slept—Rose, herself, two Belgian nurses and one German nurse who worked with them. A closet near the back stairs had been converted into a storage area for bandages and other medical supplies.

Perfect for a woman to hide in while waiting for their German visitors to leave.

She opened the door, prepared to enter…

But the closet was already occupied—by a soldier complete with pack, sidearm and rifle. The weapon wasn’t what snared Maria’s gaze and held it.

His eyes were green. A brilliant emerald green.

Her breathing stalled as she stood in the doorway and stared into those wide, pale eyes and at the blood spattered across his face and uniform.

His British uniform. In a Belgian hospital full of enemy German soldiers.

Good God.

Voices floated up the back stairs a few feet away and she opened her mouth to caution him.

Before she could utter a warning, before she could blink, his hands reached out, grabbed her, and yanked her into the closet, pulling the door closed behind her.

Fear and shock crushed her throat as she found herself pressed against the soldier’s body, one of his hands over her mouth, the other a steel band behind her back.

She couldn’t move and the closet was so dark it might as well have been a tomb. Blind and restrained, the unfamiliar scents filling her nostrils took over her senses.

Mud, blood, and man.

***

Lieutenant John Bennet held the woman in his arms tightly enough to keep her from crying out, but not enough to harm her.

He’d hoped to find someone to help him, preferably a nurse, but this wasn’t how he’d anticipated meeting such a woman—staring into her frightened face then pulling her into a dark closet. He couldn’t even tell her she was in no danger from him. Any noise would likely be overheard by the men now standing on the other side of the door.

He held himself still despite the pain from his wound and the unfamiliar weight of the woman in his arms. How long had it been since he’d held anything so soft? Weeks? Months?

He sucked in a breath and the scent of evening flowers filled his head, driving out all others. His cock stirred in response to the feel of her curves along his flank. Her chest rose and fell erratically under his arm as she tried to breathe through what must be a terrifying situation.

Yet there were no tears, no sobs, or cries.

He tore his focus from the delights of her body to consider her movements for a moment. She’d stopped struggling for the most part and now stood relatively docile in his arms.

Maybe she realized how dangerous his predicament was. If she was a nurse, she might feel some sympathy toward him, some care.

Energy surfaced from some unknown well inside him, heating his muscles. He couldn’t give up hope, not now. He had to find a way out of Belgium, a way to report what he’d seen. There were more lives at risk than his, thousands more. Including the nurse in his arms.

A man was giving orders in German in the hallway, from the sound of it, only a few paces from the closet door. Orders to search the hospital for the British soldier. Orders to find and detain for questioning the second British nurse. The woman John no doubt held in his arms.

The woman now in as much danger as he.

Poor girl. It was one thing to tend wounded men in no shape to offer offensive behavior, but quite another to be taken captive in a dark closet. He was lucky she hadn’t screamed herself hoarse or fainted.

Somehow, he needed to communicate his lack of intent to harm her. He’d been told this hospital was a place of safety for British soldiers caught behind German lines. The last farmer who’d sheltered him just outside of Brussels told him the matron of this hospital could help him, had already helped many others like him. She might even be able to supply fake identity papers and an escape route out of the country.

Warm, soft, and sweet-smelling, the woman in his arms could be the key to his survival. And what he knew was the key to Britain’s defense.

His spine solidified, transforming into steel.

She didn’t know it, but he was prepared to kill to protect her.

After running into zombies her old psychic Rose must do something about the machine Frankenstein's Bride can't give up. Rose is a powerful psychic detective and ghost hunter. Revenge is what she wants after the death one year ago of her husband. Now her psychic comrade is dead too and she's had enough. Terra's second life can't last forever. The way to stop her is not so easy!

Excerpt

Fern was excited as she wanted to start immediately.  “I’ll be there first thing in the morning!”

***

As soon as Rose opened the doors to the shop the next morning, Fern arrived with boxes of things she needed for readings. She started calling herself a psychic reader and ghost buster and had cards made up. Within a few days, her business was booming, and the other two psychics joined the team.  Rose kept her eyes open for Terra and her zombies but didn’t see any until one evening when she and Fern were alone in the shop and they heard a moan and then a dog barking. “I’m sure I heard a zombie,” Rose said. “What has Terra been up to?”

They ran to the window and looked out.  There were three long-dead zombies walking down the street to Terra’s house.  The two of them looked at each other, then ran into the bathroom and locked the door.  “I’m gonna get to the bottom of this,” Rose whispered.

“How can I help?” Fern asked.

“This will be more difficult than a reading.  They must be destroyed.  Do you know how to kill zombies?” she asked.

“Yes, just shoot them in the head,” Fern answered.

Rose nodded.  “Terra won’t go easy.  I want to get that galvanism machine from her.  It’s in her shed right now, but this will take more than one person.  Maybe Lily and Violet will help.”

“And you can’t just call the police.  They won’t believe you.”

“When I looked at her through the window the other day, she was different.  Old and deader looking.  Who knows how long she will last undead?”

“She can’t be that hard to destroy, then,” Fern said.

“I’ll see what my crystals can do. If anything.”

***

The three zombies sat in Terra’s backyard.  Her galvanism machine was plugged into her backyard outlet as her creepy old mansion did not have a garage.  The zombies then approached the machine and one of them bent the wire back that conducts electricity.  Terra did a back-bend and her face wrinkled.  “You stupid heap!”  She stood up and straightened the wire.  Looking a little younger, she brushed the zombies away from the machine as her long gray hair blew in the wind.  The neighborhood dogs were barking now and she rolled her eyes.

“Maybe I should lock this thing away,”she said to herself.  Then to the zombies, “Curiosity killed the cat!  No, I think I’ll lock you away.”  She grabbed a pole and started pushing them toward the shed but the zombies managed to grab it out of her hands.  They began to hit her with it until she backed into the shed and then they locked her in!

Terra flipped on the shed light, trying to think happy thoughts.  She sat down and remembered things about her childhood.  Like her father cutting down the Christmas tree and ice skating with her cousins while her mom watched.  Thoughts of fireplaces and hot chocolate always warmed her.  Zombies were afraid of fire, not her.  The fear made her realize the zombies obviously knew her weakness.  They could kill her with the machine or by leaving her in the shed.

She created them hoping they would be like Frankenstein, but they never were.  Frankenstein was evil at the start.  There would never be another.  She heard the zombies shuffle away and wondered, How long will I last?

The oldest of the Jamison triplets, hereditary witch and criminal defense attorney, Astra Jamison knows more about the laws of magick than her two sisters. She serves the Goddess but believes those who hurt and harm people who can’t defend themselves should be punished, abhorring it when innocents suffer. She is always willing to dole out her kind of justice to anyone who offends her, often sending them to gruesome deaths. When she and her sisters open a time portal to 1888 Liberty Valley to save two people from a serial killer, the last thing she expects is to have the wizard she views as an age-old enemy return, seeking retribution for sins she committed in the past.

Wizard and healer in more than one life, Rowdy Tall-Deer struggled to survive when his soul-matched mate arranged his murder time and again, having rogue shape-shifters attack and eat him alive. Discovering a time portal that leads to the 21st century and the witch who betrayed him means making new plans. Does he opt for vengeance or attempt to learn the truth behind her machinations? Nothing is as it seems when her demon father becomes involved, determined to continue a war that began eons ago.

Will love finally conquer evil or is history doomed to repeat itself for their next life?
