    Fiction

What do a comatose old woman, a dying gang member, and a brutal assault on
a teenage boy have in common? Derek Hollinger isn’t sure, but he knows
they’re all connected to the mysterious tattoos that suddenly appeared
    across his body.
Determined to untangle the web spun by the vicious thug known as
“Spider,” Derek embarks on a journey of redemption that leads
from his lavish L.A. penthouse to the seedy world of underground fighting
and human trafficking. But as he ventures deeper down the rabbit hole, the
self-exiled plastic surgeon realizes that the answer lies within his heart
    and mind … and soul.
Faith is the key to reclaiming his life, but choosing God may be difficult
for Derek, who has spent his entire career valuing material success over
    spiritual growth.
In this thrilling sequel to 21 Tattoos, Derek must face the hard truth
about where his tattoos came from and an even harder truth about what it
will take to be free of them once and for all.

INTERVIEW
What is the hardest part of writing your books?
While I focus on perfecting my writing style, I am mindful of the significance of effectively portraying my intended message through the thoughts and behaviors of my characters. It's easy to overlook the fact that readers may not have prior knowledge of the story, so it is imperative that I carefully choose my words and ensure that my meaning is easily understood in The Tattoo Series.
What are your most played songs?
Music is a big part of my life. My preference varies depending on how I am feeling. I don't have a set list of most played songs; instead, I go through phases based on what's happening in my life. Sometimes, I want to revisit songs from my childhood or ones that were playing during my kids' upbringing. Other times, I just want to bask in the glory of the Lord with uplifting music. And when I need motivation for a run, it's all about finding a beat to match my pace.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
My critique partners and beta readers are individuals that I am familiar with through personal, social, or professional connections. I highly regard their opinions and assessments.
What book are you reading now?
Quest for the Scroll by R. L. Rinne, He uses some of the same metaphysical type elements in his story as I use in mine.

How did you start your writing career?
Reading and using my imagination have been passions of mine since I was a child. However, it wasn't until I reached college that I started writing down the stories in my head. Even then, my writing was sporadic as the demands of life often took precedence. But during one of the most difficult times of my life, when I was undergoing intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments for Stage 3 Breast Cancer, I found solace in creating a story about self-discovery and rebirth. Drawing from my own journey through the traumatic effects of my diagnosis and treatment, I explored the significance of tattoos through metaphors in my character's quest for understanding and healing after experiencing personal turmoil and transformation. In this second book of the series, I continue to delve into the process of rebuilding a shattered life and fundamentally changing one's identity through spiritual awareness. Through extensive research, I discover the power of creating your own life story to reconstruct your life and find true inner peace and growth for my character.

Tell us about your next release.
In the third book of The Tattoo Series (release September/October 2025), my characters embark on a quest for understanding and self-discovery. As they face challenges and obstacles, their bonds are tested and they must push themselves to their limits in order to grow. Building upon the events of the previous books, this story delves deeper into the struggles and personal development that come with embarking on a physical and spiritual journey toward self-discovery. This book sets the foundation for future exploration of the remaining 21 characters in the series who have yet to be fully revealed.
