Paranormal Romance

Date Published: April 1, 2021

Publisher: Literary Wanderlust

Veterinarian Piper is pragmatic enough to know her marriage wasn't working, which is why she left Dylan a year ago and pretends it hasn't hurt like hell every day since. Then Dylan calls out of the blue and tells her to come right away for an animal emergency. Piper arrives on the ranch that used to be her home to find her horse savagely killed. She can't fathom what could have done it. One thing, however, is obvious. Piper still loves Dylan.

Dylan isn't over Piper, not by a long shot. After her horse was ripped apart by something he's pretty sure wasn't a bear, it feels so good to hold Piper in his arms again. If only they could find a way to undo the mess that drove them apart.

An epic blizzard hits, trapping Piper and Dylan on the ranch for what just might be their one chance at reuniting. But as things get a whole lot scarier, it's clear something evil has brought them together.

Hunted by the supernatural, they must fight for their lives, but can they also fight for their love?

Excerpt

Piper’s ex-husband peered at her wound, his breath warm on her thigh. It was strange that it was strange to have him touch her. This man knew every last inch of her body intimately, had taken it many times, owned it as only a husband could. His hands all over her had once been natural. Now it was thrilling in its strangeness—familiar and forbidden all at once.

He looked up at her with those hazel eyes, and her breath caught. For several heartbeats, they stared at one another until she cleared her throat. “I don’t like waiting here like sitting ducks.” Waiting for—no, she didn’t want to think of that now. She didn’t want to think of it ever again.

I know. But this barn is new and well-built. Everything is locked up tight.” He bent once more to inspect the scratch. “We’re going to need more guns and way more ammo, too.”

Historical fiction, women’s fiction, biographical fiction

Date Published: March 8, 2021

Publisher: Amsterdam Publishers

A promise keeps them apart until WWII threatens to destroy their love forever

Fonzaso Italy, between two wars

Nina Argenta doesn’t want the traditional life of a rural Italian woman. The daughter of a strong-willed midwife, she is determined to define her own destiny. But when her brother emigrates to America, she promises her mother to never leave.

When childhood friend Pietro Pante briefly returns to their mountain town, passion between them ignites while Mussolini forces political tensions to rise. Just as their romance deepens, Pietro must leave again for work in the coal mines of America. Nina is torn between joining him and her commitment to Italy and her mother.

As Mussolini’s fascists throw the country into chaos and Hitler’s Nazis terrorise their town, each day becomes a struggle to survive greater atrocities. A future with Pietro seems impossible when they lose contact and Nina’s dreams of a life together are threatened by Nazi occupation and an enemy she must face alone…

A gripping historical fiction novel, based on a true story and heartbreaking real events.

Spanning over two decades, Under the Light of the Italian Moon is an epic, emotional and triumphant tale of one woman’s incredible resilience during the rise of fascism and Italy’s collapse into WWII.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

I’m an over writer and since I researched and wrote Under the Light of the Italian Moon over the course of fourteen years, I had a very fat manuscript. Cutting down was hard since it was my first time. Thank goodness for wonderful editors who helped me slice off the fat.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

During the writing of the love scenes, I played Phil Collins ‘Against All Odds’ over and over again. For the rest I played Alberto Rabigliatti’s La ‘Strada Nel Bosco’. When I’m listening to music outside of writing it’s a mix of classical, hip hop, rap, Rat pack, musical theater, 80s and country. I am very eclectic in my music tastes.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes. Absolutely. I cling to them for dear life. They are incredibly helpful in pushing work to a better place. The more honest the better!

What book are you reading now?

The Violinist of Auschwitz by Ellie Midwood and The Years by Virginia Woolf.

How did you start your writing career?

I started by researching the life of my grandmother in Italy after a traumatic period in my life when I gave birth to my daughter, went into heart failure and then lost my grandmother in a 17 day time period.

Tell us about your next release.

Under the Light of the Italian Moon is a story of love and women’s resilience during the rise of fascism and WWII. It tells the story of Nina Argenta, the daughter of a strong-willed midwife. Nina falls in love with Pietro Pante, a boy who has emigrated to the coal mines of America. They must live apart through many challenges during Mussolini’s fascist reign and when WWII begins, they lose touch and Nina must survive Nazi occupation in hopes of reuniting with her beloved. It is very much a story of strong women.

My life has been a roller coaster filled with loss, pain, illness, failure, heartache and suffering. (Life can be so much fun, right?) It has also been filled with PURE JOY - the joy of spiritual awakening, wonderful people, world travel, long bike rides, hiking up mountains and the heart-warming adventures that come from taking the road less traveled. When I was 23 I had a profound spiritual enlightenment experience and since then my life has been about exploring how I can wake up to that state more fully and help others to as well. This book shares my adventurous and ultimately triumphant story of finding happiness through inner transformation. It explains how going “crazy” can actually be a good thing and how when things fall apart, that’s the doorway to something more.I believe that we’re all in this together. It is my hope that by sharing what I know others can find joy in the middle of their own difficulties and ultimately find their way home.

Praise for Snow Dust and Boneshine

"A warm and spellbinding tale...Soleil's writing flows like a stream, relaxing and exotic. Mixed with folk magic, simpler times and beliefs, this is a wonderful escape." ~ Tome Tender

"Soleil's writing is riveting...It's much more than a fantasy - it's a story of love and faith." ~ Literary Titan

"Curl up under your blanket, grab a cup of tea, and let yourself wander between magic and reality in Purgatory Bend...Snow Dust and Boneshine is one of the sweetest, selfless, heartbreaking but also heartwarming love stories I have ever read...The characters, the atmosphere, and the imagery are done so beautifully. Every description made me sink my teeth into the story just a little bit more." ~ Snez at Book Lifey & A Quintillion Reads Book Club

“Snow Dust and Boneshine was incredible…There’s romance, intrigue and lots of magic. It’s very well written, so much so, I could feel the cold and bitter wind as I read about it. The characters are beautifully written, and I could see it playing out as a movie as I read. I highly recommend picking this one up. 5 stars all the way.” ~ Angela Scavone, Author of Celebrity Status

“This story was magical and fascinating with an element of surprise. It was well-researched and beautifully thought out to bring us so many amazing details. If witches and love stories set in a small town with a sprinkle of magic interests you, I would urge you to read this.” ~ Kriti Dalmia at This Reader Girl

INTERVIEW

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

A few things came to mind when I reflected on this question, but I think the hardest part is that I get so focused on the product that sometimes I forget to enjoy the process. With each book I write, I get better and better at letting the creative process unfold, letting characters reveal their stories to me in their own good time, and enjoying the journey!

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I have an eclectic taste in music, but it’s safe to say these songs are regulars on my Ipod:

The Eagles – Hotel California

Mariah Carey – Fantasy

Prince – Little Red Corvette

Sam Lee – Lovely Molly

Elvis Presley – Hound Dog

Santana – Black Magic Woman

Johnny Cash – Folsom Prison Blues

Adele – Water Under the Bridge

ACDC – Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes, I’m so grateful to have a few partners/readers who provide valuable feedback to me during the editing stage. It helps me grow as an author and gives me a community of support and camaraderie.

What book are you reading now?

I’m a big fan of visionary fiction! Currently, I’m re-reading Old Souls by Tom Shroder. I read it a few years ago, and it was so fascinating that I just had to read it again. It explores the experiences of children who recall past lives, and it embraces themes that are central to visionary fiction - intuition, memories, dreams, reincarnation, and transformation.

How did you start your writing career?

Storytelling has always been an important part of my culture, and I’ve been writing stories ever since I can remember. As a child, I spent hours upon hours reading and writing in my bedroom. I kept journals. I wrote poetry. I wrote short stories. My imagination was always running wild, inventing characters, atmospheres, and scenarios.

During college, I experienced an existential crisis when my aunt died. She was the heart and soul of our family and a wonderful mentor to me. One of my professors encouraged me to write about my experience, to process the loss, and to find healing, so I wrote my first book, Limbo Jubilee. It’s a mystical blend of memoir and magical realism. At times, it was very painful to write, but in the end, it was very cathartic for me.

After I wrote Limbo Jubilee, I felt stronger and more at peace, so I started writing the kinds of books I love most: fairy tales/folklore/mythology, paranormal romance, and historical fantasy. My second book, The Mermaids Melt at Dawn, was an absolute blast to write, and I fulfilled my lifelong dream of publishing a book about mermaids and mythology.

In December 2020, I released my third book, Snow Dust and Boneshine - The Chronicles of Granny Witch (Book 1). It will always have a special place in my heart because it was inspired by my own granny and the tradition of granny medicine in Appalachian communities. I really wanted to capture the nature of folk magic and folk medicine in my community.

Tell us about your next release.

My next release is still in the early stage of development, but I’m so excited about it! I don’t want to spoil the surprise, so I’ll just give a quick teaser. Close your eyes and imagine a foggy isle off the coast of Scotland where one family’s promise to please the gods of old has tragic consequences. And yes, of course, there will be mermaids!

From introduction

Do you feel a burning desire to be the very best you can but don’t know exactly how or where to begin the process? Do you know for certain that God created you for greatness and yet are afraid to walk out your true destiny? Do you have goals and dreams but lack the motivation, resources, training, or coaching to move forward? Have you accomplished a measure of success but still want more from your life? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you are certainly not the only one.

There are indeed a countless number of women who share these same sentiments and are reduced to living lives considerably below their full potential. They often feel stuck in an inescapable cycle of mediocrity, having a desire to be their very best but subconsciously settling for substantially less. Virtual Book Tour: I Love You Very Muchly! by Rick Marino #blogtour #interview #giveaway #childrensbook #nonfiction #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours @rick_author

Children’s Nonfiction

Date Published: November 14, 2019

I Love You Very Muchly is a true story about Nika, a Shih-Tzu puppy who was abandoned in a crate with no one to take care of her. Her new mommy and daddy found her and decided to adopt her. They did not know how it would work out because they had two large golden retrievers, but they wanted to try anyway. This the heartwarming story of a beautiful, fun, sweet, (and sometimes bossy) puppy who needed the love of her parents and the skills of the surgeons to save her life.

Interview

What was your main drive to write this book?

  • WHILE THIS IS “FICTION” LITERALLY EVERYTHING IN THE BOOK IS BASED ON REAL EVENTS AND NIKA CHANGED OUR LIVES WHEN WE ADOPTED HER AND SHE BECAME A HUGE PART OF OUR FAMILY. IT’S A SWEET STORY, A STORY I FELT NEEDED TO BE TOLD

What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?

  • THAT ALL PETS ARE SPECIAL, THAT THEY ALL HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS, HOPES, DESIRES AND ESPECIALLY LOVE. THEY ALL DESERVE TO BE TAKEN CARE OF AND TREATED WITH RESPECT

Did you do much research when planning this book?

  • VERY LITTLE AS THIS WAS A RECAP OF ACTUAL EVENTS

Did you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or influenced you to write it?

  • I HAD SEVERAL FOLKS WHO REVIEWED THE BOOK AND GAVE SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE IT BETTER. I HAD A BOOK REVIEWER THAT REALLY HELPED WITH THE SUCCINCT LANGUAGE THAT IS NEEDED TO WRITE AN ENJOYABLE AND GRAMATICALLY CORRECT STORY

How long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?

  • ABOUT A YEAR

Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new topics?

  • QUITE POSSIBLY. THE NIKA STORY NEEDS TO BE A TRILOGY. THE PLUSH TOY AND THE NIKA STORIES ARE A HUGHE HIT WITH THE KIDS AND I KNOW THAT THE NEXT STORY CAN BE AS POWERFUL AS THE NEXT TWO.

About the Author

Rick Marino and his wife, Teresa have been raising rescue dogs and cats for decades. They share their time between their home in Ohio and New Jersey. Nika inspired Rick with her personality and braveness to write the two books about her, her bother Marco and her sister Penelope Purr.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Certainly, for me, it’s letting them go. As I believe is the case with many artists, we are often highly critical of our own endeavors. I could probably look at any single page in the completed manuscript and find at least two or three things I’d like to improve upon. At a certain point, artists have to let the art be as it is, and it’s never been easy for me to recognize when that time has come. But although I could continually comb over the words and make endless improvements, no one would ever end up reading it because it would never be complete.

What songs are most played on your iPod?

Well, I’m actually an electronic music producer as well as an aspiring author – under the moniker Om Frequency, as well as a DJ who gravitates towards gritty music with heavy bass. I put together a playlist for writing to that felt very Cyberpunk oriented, and that’s been on a lot lately. Some of my favorite music producers are Simon Green, who produces under the name Bonobo and an artist called Feverkin. If I had one song to recommend to readers to give them something to associate to the feel I was trying to inspire in my novel, it would have to be Blade Runner Blues by Vangelis.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I used the BookSprout service for ARC readers, which was great. As far as beta readers go, I sent the book out to family and friends who wanted to help, but only a couple actually finished the book in time to give feedback. Hopefully that’s more of a testament to their busy lifestyles than it is to the book.

What book are you reading now?

I’m actually in the middle of the Witcher series at the moment. I was in love with the games and I’ve always heard really good things about the translated books, so I decided to give them a shot. The book I’m most anxiously awaiting is the third book in Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles, but I’ve stopped holding my breath. My favorite author in my own genre is Richard Morgan, the author of Altered Carbon.

How did you start your writing career?

It’s beginning as we “speak”. I began writing when I was a kid, but never really committed to it until this past year. I was able to get my debut novel done within a few months by having a really dedicated routine of writing at least 1,500 words per day, exercising regularly to keep my spirits up, and getting a lot of support and encouragement from my wife.

Tell us about your next release.

If I’m being honest, I’m really going back and forth about whether or not I want to do something else in the science-fiction genre immediately. The alternative is to try my hand at fantasy, which is another huge inspiration for me. I’m not sure how it could impact people who become fans of my writing to cross genres in that way, but most of the ideas that have been coming to me have been a bit more magical and epic in nature than what I did with technology in The Devil Whispered. I’ll probably wait for some feedback from people to decide, but one way or another the next book will try to go a bit deeper below the surface I scratched with this one. I love metaphysics, alternate universes, time theory, quantum mechanics, and all sorts of concepts that weren’t tackled with my first novel and I’m excited to delve into those ideas.

About the Author

Shawn lives in Massachusetts with his wife and the handful of childhood stuffed animals that they’ve been unable to part ways with, even despite the awkward situation it occasionally puts their house guests in. He wields a coveted Associates of Liberal Arts degree from Greenfield Community college in an overly enthusiastic, flailing manner, and puts it to work writing both fantasy and science fiction stories. Using subliminal codes and hidden messaging carefully placed throughout his books, he plans to captivate the minds of his readers and insidiously manipulate them into purchasing subsequent releases.

As a novelist, musician, graphic designer, and a purveyor of fine games, Shawn is often confused about exactly who he is when he wakes up in the morning. It’s been said (by him) that perhaps he embodies all of these things so equally that a singular definition could not comprehensively impart a satisfactory description. With your support, and a sufficient demand for more novels, he secretly hopes that he’ll have no choice but to formally acknowledge the prevailing label of ‘author’ and spend the rest of his days providing a sense of wonder and adventure to everyone who helped him solidify his nebulous identity.
