A republic under attack. A reluctant soldier. An all-out fight for the galaxy’s soul.

David Cohen prays he’ll live to see the other side of his first deployment. His people thought they had left war behind when they fled Earth centuries ago. Time, though, has not dulled the hatred and intolerance of their erstwhile oppressors. To defend his homeland’s freedom, David abandons his dream of becoming a rabbi for the battlefield… and discovers a side of himself he is not sure he can live with.

David's focus is clear when the bullets are flying. In the long hours after, he must reckon with the toll that blood and blame bring upon his mind. Can he square the tenets of his faith against his responsibility to crew and country? Nothing has prepared him to make decisions that could cause ruin or an end to generations of conflict... except for trust in God, himself, and those who serve under him.

If David Cohen survives it all, who will he be?

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Finding the time to do it. Bar none, that’s my biggest challenge. I haven’t hit writers block, at least seriously yet. I know I will at some point, but finding enough time to write is my problem these days. With a full time career that sucks down most of my time, I try to carve out enough time to write a couple thousand words a weekend, and I take a vacation to a quiet beach with no internet or cellphone access for a week, and get in 15,000 to 20,000 words. I like to do that at least once a quarter!

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

Well, none, since I don’t have an Ipod. (Apple products are just too rich for my blood!) But to extrapolate the meaning of the question…I’m really big on Two Steps from Hell right now, which is an “epic music” group headed by Thomas Bergersen. You’d also find a great deal of classical, movie soundtracks, and Christian music on my playlist!

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have several beta readers, who are good friends that all love science fiction; my genre that I write. I’ve known them all for many, many years. They’re really good at delivering constructive criticism, and I’ve got a thick skin. I’ve told them all, if something sucks, tell me it sucks directly. Which they do! I’ve also used the services of a developmental editor. I can’t say enough how important professional editing is.

What book are you reading now?

Operation Medusa, which is book six of the Castle Federation series, by Glynn Stewart.

How did you start your writing career?

My fiction writing career, short as it is, begins with the release of my first novel, ‘Fight the Good Fight’. I’ve been writing documentation professionally for a number of years though, everything from contract proposals, to technical manuals. I suppose that started ten years ago. Far more boring than writing about space ships and exciting characters hundreds of years in the future!

I’m about halfway through my next novel, So Fight I; the continuation of the story of David Cohen that started with Fight the Good Fight. I’m on track to get it to my editor over the summer, and release in very late August or early September. Its shaping up nicely!
