A calculating cold-blooded predator closes in…

When a community has barely recovered from a ruthless serial killer six months earlier; now two more horrifying murders hit the radar again. It leaves police burdened with two of the most shockingly contaminated crime scenes ever documented in California’s law enforcement history. The Slayer works behind the scenes as a sinister puppet master, precisely pulling the strings, taunting the police without leaving any viable evidence, and orchestrating his killer hit squads.

The sheriff and district attorney bring in the best investigators. Reunited again, Dr. Chip Palmer, a reclusive forensic expert, joins DA Inspector Kate Rawlins to sort through the crime scene aftermath in search of the truth—all without a probable suspect or a solid motive. Complicating the investigation—sparks reignite between the two.

Ratcheting up the suspense, Chip suffers a nasty fall hitting his head, impairing his perception and giving him a mind-blowing ability for specific detailed recall. Palmer and Rawlins assemble an unusual team including a rookie detective, a forensic supervisor, and an ex-military operative turned bodyguard. After one of their own is kidnapped and the investigation is taken over by the FBI, the now rogue team must pull together their own resources—alone—with a killer waiting to take each one of them out. Scene of the Crime takes no prisoners and leaves everyone fighting to stay alive.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

The hardest but most rewarding part of writing books is gathering informative research. I love to research, but it can be a time issue that takes you away from writing. Sometimes it’s difficult to know how much detail to include in a fictional story. It’s quite a balancing act when it comes to writing a forensic mystery, but I’m always up for the challenge.

What songs are most played on your IPod?

I write in a small office space and listen to all types of music through various levels of outlining, writing, and editing. During research and outlines, I love to listen to most Pop, Rock, and eighties music. During my writing, I will only listen to Classical piano music—no words and nothing that would make me want to dance. When I’m editing, I must have complete silence.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have a group of people that are my beta readers, which are like gold to me. It definitely helps to have an unbiased group of readers that are interested in mystery and thriller books. It helps me to see things more objectively throughout the story with feedback.

What book are you reading now?

I’m reading The Kill Room by Jeffrey Deaver. Deaver’s Lincoln Rhyme detective series is probably my favorite fictional detective series—at least at this point. I’m also reading I’ll be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara about the Golden State Serial Killer.

How did you start your writing career?

I’ve been fascinated and engrossed in books as far back as I can remember. I’ve been involved in some form of writing my entire life, articles, copyrighting, fictional stories, and screenplays. It was not until 2008 did I publish my first novel, Compulsion.

My latest release SCENE OF THE CRIME, A Chip Palmer Forensic Mystery, has just been released. It’s a story about a reclusive forensic expert teamed up with a feisty DA Inspector to solve the most unusual crimes. My next release DARK LIES, An Emily Stone Thriller, will be released in the fall. This is my award winning vigilante detective series. You can find out about all my books at www.authorjenniferchase.com
