Laurie Lancey has always loved the old picturesque bridge over Council Creek; it's that beauty which gave the town its name.
But then...
A near miss... A chinese fortune cookie with a deadly warning
A murdered co-worker
She knows now the serenity is just a deception. Something sinister is going on here,
And it's all around her.
Investigator Nick Allyn barely manages to save her when the shots are fired.
"This tells me only one thing, young lady," he tells her firmly.
"Those bullets were meant for you.
And only you."
What is the hardest part of writing
your books?
For me, I think the hardest part is
making sure that all the questions are answered, all the revisions taken care
of and plot-holes filled. I worry that someone might finish the book and say, “Wait!
But what about “fill out the question here?”.
I agonize over this.
What
songs are most played on your Ipod?
I don’t have an ipod, but hubby did
install a cd player in my office and some speakers. The music played most is by
Sarah Vaughn. There is also some Ella Fitzgeralald, Dina Washington and
Lena Horn. (Yes, I’m older, but not old enough to remember listening to
them as a child. I just love the 40’s and 50’s music. I also love Sarah
Brightman.
Those were classy ladies who sang
classy music!
Do you have critique partners or beta
readers?
Yes. I have a few beta readers who are
wonderful and have eagle eyes when it comes to spotting things and making
suggestions. And I have a wonderful group of ARC readers!
What book are you reading now?
Julie
Garwood’s “Ransom” is playing in audio on my iPad, narrated by Susan
Duerden. I absolutely love her voices and accents!
I just finished Julie
Garwood’s “Sweet Talk” with narrator Angela Dawe. Loved it!
How did you start your writing career?
Now, that’s a long story. It began in the
fifth grade.
Since you asked,
however…
My teacher, Mrs. J, was an elegantly coiffured
lady whom we all adored, and I was no exception.
One day, she gave us an assignment: Write a short story and read
it aloud to the class. Sounds simple, right?
We had a block of time, so I got busy and began to write.
Then it was my turn. I stood, took a deep breath, and began.
I glanced up at Mrs. J at the entrance of the Grizzly bear to the
camp where my buddies and I were staying in a tent.
Oh dear, I thought. She doesn’t look good. There was this twitch
somewhere around her left eye, and her normally rosy pink cheeks had taken off
for the county line.
By the time the bear attacked and body parts began flying, the twitch
had made it all the way down to her mouth. She was as white as the proverbial ghost.
She was looking at me as if she was thinking… Strange child.
She was a trooper, however. She made it all the way through to the
end, and remained upright.
Oh, but my friends loved it! Since they were the characters in it,
they thought it was super and kept asking when part two would be ready. And I
was thinking…. “Hm, Part two; The resurrection?”
And
me? I was just plain hooked on writing.
Tell us about your next release.
The next book (3) in
the “Shadows of Council Creek” series is entitled
“Screams in the
Shadow”. Katelynn, a young Nurse Practitioner, suddenly begins hearing the same
scream she heard while she
was on the phone with
Amy, her younger sister on the day of her death.
Enroute to the house
and the first one to reach her, she’s the first to be considered a suspect.
But now two years
have come and gone. When she begins once again hearing Amy’s screams on the
anniversary of her death and then it begins happening at home, she decides to
see a counselor.
Is she indeed losing
her mind?
Eli Garrison, on the
Highway Patrol, thinks otherwise.
And he’s determined
to prove it.
About the Author
It all started with my fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. J. Ever the elegant, perfectly coiffured lady, gave us an assignment to write a short story and read it aloud to the class.
Mine was about a group of fifth grade kids who went on a weekend camping trip, and encountered a grizzly bear. When it was my turn, I read.
Poor Mrs. J! I began to notice a twitch around her left eye sometime around the approach of the grizzly bear. By the time the body parts began flying, it had increased to her mouth, and her whole face was as white as a sheet.
But she was a trooper, and stayed upright throughout the whole story.
However, the other kids loved the story, because it was about them. Suddenly, I was hooked! Over the years, my writing changed from gory stories (my term as a kid) to space stories. Then spy stories, and finally romance. But the other thing I found I really loved was mystery and romance. I wasn’t satisfied with just reading it. I wanted to write it!
