Who can you trust when corruption and danger are a way of life?

The CIA never left Latin America, and is facing catastrophic blackmail at the hands of an erratic Guatemalan drug lord: the infamous patrón of Antigua – Pablo Puentes. Desperate for a swift solution, the agency calls in their black operative fixer: John Carpenter.

John is a cold-blooded professional ready for the job. But the mission doesn’t have a simple fix. Pablo has a disastrous kill switch in place.

John is still haunted by the mysterious death of his best friend who died on a far too similar mission, and now is uncertain about how much he can trust his handler or his sensual partner.

Back at the agency, tensions are running hot as the stench of corruption is growing to a boiling point. If things aren’t put to rights – and soon – the entire mission will go up in flames and take the CIA down with it.

Only John Carpenter can bring this drug lord to justice and get the answers he deserves.

Because this mission is personal…

If you like the relentless tension of Daniel Silva and the gritty reality of Lee Child then you’ll love this first book in the John Carpenter Trilogy!

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

It's really easy to come up with an idea, and it's fairly easy to get some words on the page. What's really difficult is putting it together and making it all make sense. I write out of order and I'm a pantser (I don't do a ton of outlining) so the actual 'writing' for me is stitching all of my stuff together and it can be quite challenging – but it's also the most rewarding part.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I go through periods where I obsessively listen to certain songs or a certain genre over and over and I usually use that to lock me in to focus on my work. Write now I've been listening to some pop-party mashup playlists, but my favourite music genres include 90's pop-punk and electro-swing. Usually I need something up-beat to work to (honestly trash-pop works wonders for some reason, I have no shame).

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have an awesome group of beta readers who are enthusiastic about my work and give me fantastic feedback. I use a ton of that feedback to make my stories better and catch blind spots or areas where I was an idiot. They're also instrumental for encouragement; I don't know how far I'd get without them.

What book are you reading now?

I am reading the second Grishaverse trilogy book, Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo, and the second Gentlemen Bastards book Red Seas Under Red Skies on audio by Scott Lynch (I love Michael Page's narration!). I usually read sci-fi or fantasy.

How did you start your writing career?

Like a lot of writers I started off at an early age writing really bad high fantasy. I wrote three sizable works and plenty of short stories by the time I was halfway through university, but my work wasn't truly out there until I wrote my first play, directing and acting alongside my theatre pals and produced by my father. He continued to support a second play before we branched out into books – he does the marketing and I do the writing. We make a good team and I have him to thank for the launch of my career.

Tell us about your next release.

My book releasing in a couple weeks is Operation Nicaragua! This is the sequel to my first book Ghosts of Guatemala and moves us forward in the John Carpenter trilogy. My beta readers said they liked this book even better than the first and I agree it has a lot more action, so I am very excited for readers to join John on another nail-biting adventure! Operation Nicaragua follows John trying to escort a high-priority VIP out of Nicaragua while unsure if he can trust his own handler. Cuban and Russian intelligence start meddling with CIA affairs as a departmental feud hits its boiling point. Only John is able to expose CIA corruption – if he can get out of the country alive.

I also have a YA urban fantasy book heading for preorder and release soon too! Vaulter's Magic follows the story of Daniel Vaulter, who has just inherited a whole bunch of magical items that he has no idea how to use. Unfortunately, other supernatural beings are very interested in them...

I hope you all have success writing and enjoy reading my stuff!
