"The Catcher Dream" was born as a poem and remains so in this newly minted Book Five of Kelly Anne Manuel's Childhood Classics.

In this story the Child is invited on a journey where self-empowerment is modeled through an interaction between the narrator and a fictionalized character known as the Catcher Dream.

This is a story where the narrator models strength and courage once an uncomfortable matter is identified through self-assessment.

"The Catcher Dream" offers a standing invitation to the Child. The Child will learn that they are individuals in charge of safeguarding their physical and emotional space. It is an example of how imperative it is to process the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that uncomfortable matters provoke.

The simple words take on new meaning as the illustrations pair perfectly with their presentation. The Child will observe illustrations that are in alignment with the serious tone of the story. It is important that the art match the conflict presented and resolved by the narrator.

The narrator shows the Child that once a boundary was encroached upon, speaking up in a firm manner provided a solution. Children learn how to handle conflict by observation. It is important for their literature to address a balanced yet firm approach to conflict resolution.

The author intends this book to be a launch pad for discussions about personal space, respect, and boundaries. These are all areas that deserve to be explored frequently as the Child ages. It is in Early Childhood that futures are being constructed.

"The Catcher Dream" is a tool in a Caregiver's toolbox to assist with that healthy formation. The idea that self-empowerment is formed during these early years is embraced by the author.

The Children who read this book will be rewarded with a valuable lesson that facing fears results in the positive trait of resilience.

 INTERVIEW

1. Tell us about your current release.

One of my current releases is “The Catcher Dream.” As with all my books this story was first a poem. I realized immediately how important it was and was so fortunate to find illustrations on iStock to accurately depict this imaginary character. The story is meant to create a scenario that a child may find themselves in at any time in their current or future life. It is all about boundaries and how easily they can be crossed if one is not assessing their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

2.    When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I began to write the poems and convert them into Children’s Books in April of 2022.
It is so recent that I call myself an “uncommon author.” Now I cannot imagine life before the poems.

3.     Have you published any previous books?

This book was published in the Summer of 2022 along with thirty others. My first book, “My Name Is Mountain,” was published in April of that same year.

4.     What can we expect to see from you in the future, any books on the backburner?

I have so many more stories waiting patiently in the wings to be published. I am self-published and the cost is unfortunately prohibitive at this stage. I am certain that this is temporary, however, and look forward to adding more books to each of my four series. I also have poetry for adults that I hope to publish.

5.     What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I am so blessed to live near my family. I love to spend time with them. My pup, Teddy Roosevelt and I, go on many walks through the day to keep us healthy. I also enjoy painting. It is a new but extremely rewarding hobby.

6.     Did you learn anything from writing your book? What was it?

I learned the importance of inner and outer quiet. It was only when I achieved a balance of both that I heard the words that were meant to not only be written but shared. I also learned that the more work I did on myself the more I had to offer children in the form of modern-day nursery rhymes.

7.     Some writers have something playing in the background, do you and what?

I must have quiet to hear the words. Sometimes I play music when finding my illustrations on iStock. My playlist is extremely varied, from Christina Perry to John Denver and Queen.

8.     Tell us a little about yourself. Perhaps something not many people know about?

I love living a quiet and simple life. My happiness is found in the most basic of things like my dog making eye contact with me when I rub his belly and having a pantry that is tidy.

9.     What do you hope your writing brings to your readers?

I so hope my writing brings entertainment, joy, and wonder, to my young readers. I hope the rhymes are lyrical enough to commit to memory. When that happens, the words will be there for them through such a wide range of experiences. From block play, taking things with wheels outdoors, and happily greeting the morning, to coping with endings, loss, and fears; I hope my books offer a fresh and supportive perspective.
