As a new Christian, there were many things that I didn't understand about living a Christian life. Through the years, the Holy Spirit taught me wisdom and understanding which became a guide for me regarding how to live a more loving and accepting life toward myself and others.
This book is a collection of some of those truths. It is my attempt to help those who are new to the Christian faith. I hope that it will guide readers to understand God's ways with a new perspective and passion.
Walking with God is truly a mystery and an adventure-it is the journey of a lifetime! He is our greatest treasure and our very best friend. I hope to not only convey those truths through my writing, but also to warm the hearts and souls of those who read this gift book with His love and light at the same time! God bless and enjoy!
1. Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?
I wrote this book because I wanted to share how God changed my life. I endured various forms of abuse in my childhood which led to other problems in my adulthood. When I began to form a relationship with Jesus, my healing journey deepened. I tried a lot of things to heal, and some of them, like counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy helped. But the most helpful avenue for healing which I found was the love, wisdom, and comfort I received through my spirituality.
I know that there are a lot of people who have endured similar situations to mine. I wanted to share the hope that a relationship with God can bring into a person’s life and spirit. With Him, healing and restoration is possible.
2. What surprised you most about getting your book published?
I’ve written other books but this is the first book that I’ve published myself so the process I’ve had to go through for the different platforms has been interesting. They all have different requirements, some of which I still have to learn about. I’d say that was what most surprised me about publishing this book.
3. Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing.
I spend a lot of time creating art. I also manage apartments and do repairs, remodels, and bookkeeping. I like to garden, landscape, and spend time with family. Cooking is fun once in a while, too!
4. As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?
I’ve gone through a lot of seasons in life and I’ve written about them. I wrote a book about my childhood, which was cathartic. I’ve written about children that I’ve lost, which was a release for me. It’s been a long road. I guess this book is a pivotal book because it focuses on my spirituality and how it has helped me to heal, grow, and mature. It is the focal point of what has pulled me through all of the hardship.
5. Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?
I write about what I’ve been through in life. I want to share my experiences with the hope that I will help others in their journeys.
6. What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
My first book was a fiction book. It wasn’t well received. It was my attempt at humor and adventure. I quickly found out that I wasn’t meant to be a fiction author! However, I continued on to write several more books and won many awards for them. They were nonfiction books about my life. So I found my purpose through a failed first attempt!
7. What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?
I think my greatest accomplishment has been the emails and messages I’ve received from readers thanking me for talking about hard topics and giving them hope. I tend to write about things that people don’t want to talk about, like abuse or the death of a child. Society is becoming more communicable about these topics, and thankfully so. Because these things happen to a lot of people. And healing can only take place when open communication can be established. In order to move forward after tragedies like that, we have to be able to express ourselves and talk to others who can mentor us through those situations. I truly believe we are here to help each other learn, grow, and become better. So I am very grateful when I am able to make someone’s life a little easier because of what I write or create artistically.
8. How many unpublished and half finished books do you have?
Quite a few! I’m in the process of organizing several of them into outlines so that I can begin writing. I’m also editing and formatting my most recent magazine-Timeless Reflections Volume 4. I began the magazine last year and have decided to publish it biannually. Each magazine focuses on a certain topic and I publish artists that I know who submit pieces and write-ups centered around each topic. Timeless Reflections is free as an e-magazine and is designed to be inspirational and motivational. I’ve covered topics such as the environment/global warming, the beauty of perseverance, serenity of the soul, and my current volume is about valuing and empowering children. So I’ve always got something in the works!
