Sharon Koifman is a survivor. He survived the dot com crash. He survived working with outsourcers that mastered English like fish mastered riding bicycles. And he survived building and leading a completely remote business spanning four continents... With two toddlers in the room. The title of this book is a lie. Sharon Koifman didn't survive remote work. He thrived with remote work. This is a book by someone who experienced everything described within firsthand. Sharon made all the possible mistakes (plus a couple of impossible ones) in remote work. All so you don’t have to.
Surviving Remote Work is the distillation of a decade of lessons. Inside, you’ll learn the tools, strategies and tactics to survive and thrive as a leader in the remote age. You’ll learn how to keep your company culture alive remotely — or even build one from scratch. You’ll be given a world-class recipe for onboarding new remote people — one that has received praise from dozens of clients and hundreds of employees. Sharon will share his techniques to manage and avoid distractions, his practical experience researching and testing the best remote communications technology, and his in-depth strategies on how to protect your business’ (and your clients’) data in a fully-distributed operation. Finally, he’ll also spend some time showing how you can keep the extroverts in your team from wanting to kill themselves… And the introverts in your team from wanting to kill themselves. Buy this book… and learn how to Survive Remote Work!
INTERVIEW
What was your main drive to write this book?
I considered myself a
revolutionary about working remotely for more than a decade. It felt
particularly strange that companies that promote a healthy work culture always
seem to snatch people out of their community and move to another city or
country where this office with this supposedly great culture is. Of course
Covid 19 was the true wake up call, I realized that now is the time where
people need the most knowledge about remote work.
What do you hope readers will learn by reading
this book?
I’m hoping people are not
just going to learn how to be more productive as remote employees but also to
enjoy the process.
Did you do much research when planning this
book?
A lot of the book is based
on my 20 years of experience but it was important for me to add facts and
research to make sure that all my experience is actually backed up. I had a
full editorial team on my side finding the best information over several weeks,
but instead of shoving a huge bibliography into the book, we narrowed it down
to the cream of the crop when it comes to fact based and statistically
validated studies.
Did you have any main people who helped you in
the process of this book or influenced you to write it?
My team, my director of
marketing and my VP of operations gave me their input on what’s important, and
the marketing team helped me with the fact research.
How long did this book take you to write from
initial thought to hitting publish?
3 months to write. 4 months
to edit and do all the magical things involved in writing a book.
Do you have plans to write more about this
topic or new topics?
First of all I’m planning
to add more in a second edition, and that will of course be available as a free
update to the people who get it right now on Kindle. That’s the magic of
ebooks! I specifically got into “remote
working out” and I want to share some of my research about it. I’m also
planning to write other books in the future… But the topic is a secret for now.
