Historical Fiction

Date Published: 08-01-1021

Publisher: BQB Publishing

England, 1609. Matthew did not trust his friend, Richard’s stories of Paradise in the Jamestown settlement, but nothing could have equipped him for the privation and terror that awaited him in this savage land.

Once ashore in the fledgling settlement, Matthew experiences the unimaginable beauty of this pristine land and learns the meaning of hope, but it all turns into a nightmare as gold mania infests the community and Indians become an increasing threat. The nightmare only gets worse as the harsh winter brings on “the starving time” and all the grizzly horrors of a desperate and dying community that come with it.

Driven to the depths of despair by the guilt of his sins against Richard and his lust for that man’s wife, Matthew seeks death, but instead finds hope in the most unexpected of places, with the Powatan Indians.

In this compelling and extensively researched historical novel, the reader is transported into a little-known time in early America where he is asked to explore the real meanings of loyalty, faith, and freedom.

Three thousand years ago the three races of Vinge, Human, Dak’or, and Fingalin, fled into space at the destruction of their planet. Now The Alliance between the three governments is at its breaking point. Between racial tensions caused by the elitist and wealthy Fingal trying to claim a divine right to rule, a deadly new quarantine-resistant plague that is sweeping through the primarily Drak’or outer colonies, and lack of funding and success in terraforming efforts, the treaty seems to be at an end. As people begin to turn to religion to save them, The Descendents, a powerful religious sect worshiping the Goddess Vyanna, readily fill the void.

Now the crew of a small mercenary vessel, captained by a man calling himself the devil, are on a relief mission to replace equipment for Deep Space Initiative Station 3122’s failed life support. Lieutenant Commander James Aiunys, the newest member, and tactical officer of the legendary crew is shocked when they are unexpectedly pulled out of hyperspace, and informed that the quarantine zone has been expanded to include the station. The mysterious Drak’or captain is undeterred. In a feat that seems more like magic than science, he turns the battle on its head, defeating one of the most powerful warships in the galaxy, leaving it paralyzed in space.

Upon their arrival however, the station is not what they had expected. The crew becomes concerned when they discover the station empty, an eerie resemblance to another station they had visited at the bequest of strange women with silver hair who smelled of apple blossoms.

When the power core fails during their investigation, The Captain is once again forced to do the impossible, leaving James with more questions than answers. With the government collapsing into chaos, the crew of The Shade find themselves on the run, caught in the middle of a sinister plot that will change the galaxy forever.

But there are darker shadows than the machinations of mortals lurking in the far corners of civilization. Brought face to face with their own humanity in a conflict older than the concepts of good and evil. They are forced to question everything they understood about themselves, religion, and even the very fabric of reality.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

This is a tricky question, because it seems like every new step along the way is the new hardest part. When you first sit down and want to write something, just getting anything written seems like the hardest part. I started so many stories, with so many different beginnings before Seph sort of just fell out of me all on its own. So strangely if you are setting out to write a book, that is the hardest part, but if you write a book on accident that part is easy.

For me the biggest struggle was finding people who were willing to read the whole thing and give me honest feed back during the early drafts. Which is really critical to being able to refine it into something you really want to be able to share with other people. That, and finding the time to do all of that editing around everything else going on.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I actually don’t have an Ipod and never have. I did not have much musical exposure when I was a child and so music was never nearly as much a part of my life during my teen years as it is for most I think. I never really developed the habit of making playlists to express myself. But I listen to a lot of Eric Clapton, the Beach boys, Beetles, Rolling stones, and The Monkeys. I also really enjoy live orchestras

When I do want to express myself emotionally through music, I usually write my own. I play several instruments but most prominently I play the guitar. My three most played songs are

Imperfect

Voices in the rain

And Tear Drops

Which you probably would not recognize or be able to find anywhere since I have never had the confidence to share my own music with anyone except my partner.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Absolutely, and they are 100% invaluable. I could always use more though, So if you know anyone I am looking.

What book are you reading now?

I recently finished The Paper Magician series by Charkie N. Holmberg. And am about halfway through It’s Complicated by Danah Boyd. I am also reading Zen and Japanese Culture by Daisetz T. Suzuki. I also have a few projects I am reading for other authors which haven’t been announced yet, but there is some really exciting things going on in that department that I am really looking forward to.

How did you start your writing career?

It was really an accident. I was in a pretty dark place in my life and struggling to find things to hold onto. I came across a writing prompt on the internet and I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. Once I started writing it just didn’t stop. After 27 days I had my first draft and it was a pretty surreal experience. I felt like I had an obligation to give what I had created a chance to be something more then a forgotten file an a hard drive so I just kept working at it until eventually we got to where we are now.

Tell us about your next release.

I have several other projects in the work, But the next one I intend to release I am calling Cinnamon Latte, and it will be the first book in what I am titling the Perspectives series.

It’s a Dystopian YA series where the whole society is being run by what is essentially a overblown social media platform who’s algorithms dictate almost everything in day to day life.

Make Me Series, Book Three

Contemporary Romance

Date Published: July 30, 2021

Publisher: Renrut Publishing

Believe in second chances.

After his heart was broken by his first love, Kamden Stone avoided romantic entanglements. He lives in the moment, taking partners who understand his desires and know things will end after one encounter. He's comfortable with the life he's carved out for himself, refusing to need anyone or anything until a young woman he can't stop thinking about changes the game.

Everly Mason moved to escape toxic family ties. All she wants is a fresh start and a new life. The house left to her is the perfect place to fall, isolated and in the middle of nowhere, providing plenty of work to keep her occupied. She's on the right path, taking things one day at a time, when she's introduced to a mysterious man she can't stop thinking about.

Despite everything, Kamden and Everly can't deny their chemistry. When they agree to a trial period, curious to see where things will go between them, they discover they need each other in a way they never thought possible. When the time comes, they'll have to accept what they want and need. To be together, they both have to find a reason to make them stay.

Excerpt

"How old are you, Everly?"

Relief coursed through her. Was that the problem? She did look young for her age. She'd been told she'd appreciate that later in life. Did he think she was too young for him? If that was the issue, she could ease his concern. She was definitely of legal age.

"Twenty-two. I'll be twenty-three in March."

"I'm thirty-four." He made it sound like a bad thing.

She figured as much, although he could shave a couple of years and pass himself off as a younger man if he wanted to. "So?"

The response surprised him. "That doesn't bother you?"

The men she'd dated had been in their early twenties, and they hadn't left behind good impressions. Both had wanted to go to parties, hang out with their friends, and play video games. They were also complete slobs who lived off their parents, worked part-time jobs, and were lazy as hell. The only time they spent alone with her involved sex that, most of the time, didn't do anything for her. It was the reason she'd broken up with both of them within a year.

"No," she answered firmly, meaning it, "it doesn't."

He took that in, clutching the steering wheel. "It should bother you, darlin'."

It was the second time he'd called her that, meaning he had to have some kind of interest in her. For some reason, he didn't want to let things happen as they should, keeping himself distant and apart. She didn't know why, but she wasn't going to let him dodge her anymore.

"Don't tell me what should and shouldn't bother me. I'm a big girl, and I can make up my own mind. If that's the problem, I can tell you the age difference doesn't matter to me. It's just a number."

"You also don't know anything about me."

That much was true, but she wanted to. "Then tell me all about you."

His gaze darted to her, his fingers gripping the wheel tighter. "I'm not sure I should."

"You don't sprout fur and howl at the moon once a month, do you? Or go around drinking people's blood? If not, I think I'm good." Her attempt at humor worked. She could see him trying not to grin. "I don't frighten easily."

"I don't do that, but I can be beastly on occasion."

About the Author

Cynthia McDonald is the author of Life is a Terminal Illness and Drōmfrangil (Autumn 2021 from Cinnabar Moth Publishing) as well as a childhood memoir, two American history books, and the “I See Your Hearts” blog.

Cynthia was born in Richmond, Virginia in 1972. About The Author

Jane Colt began writing romances to deal with the stress of a ‘day job’ that’s mainly about examining the various ways people treat one another badly. An incurable romantic, her stories give her hope that we really can live happily ever after—even if only in our imaginations. She writes erotic romances because, having been raised in a morally rigid home, she wants to encourage in her readers a healthier, ‘sex positive’ outlook. She especially wants her heroines to be as sexy and passionate as they desire. You can count on the fact that her couples end up in love and having great sex! … OK, maybe they have the sex first!

Her stories aim to be light-hearted, fun, upbeat—and sexy! No dark, brooding, broken, tortured guys who need fixing. Just great, handsome, smart, sexy, ‘real men’ whose only weakness is being unable to resist the women she pairs them with. Think Lifetime or Hallmark movies plus hot sex!

She’s lived on both coasts of the U.S., recently leaving the beaches of Los Angeles to return home to the glorious autumn foliage of western Massachusetts. Married, she and her spouse are happy to be the devoted servants of two adorable cats. She loves traveling. Favorite cities: San Francisco, Boston, Venice, London, London, London!

By the way, anyone who knows her would be shocked to learn she writes erotic romances. “Jane Colt” is a pen name. So, shhhhhh.

Memoir

Date Published: November 4th 2021

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Clipped is a quirky memoir about a new mother whose desperation to get her baby to sleep catapulted her into becoming an inventor and small business owner—just before the world fell apart in 2008.

As a full-time mother and entrepreneur, Adrienne Alitowski rolled out her invention, blankyclip®, to over thirty stores in the Buy Buy Baby national chain. LA Parent Expecting and Kids Today both made blankyclip a “Top Pick''. The United States Patent and Trademark Office awarded her three utility patents and a trademark. All that fabulous glory aside, Adrienne also learned what it’s like to pee through a hole in the floor of a Chinese factory, and to be pregnant and throw up on the street just before an investor meeting. These experiences led her down a path to write this memoir about sticking to your vision and being open to finding gold in the muck.

About the Author

As an actress Adrienne Alitowski has appeared on Broadway and toured with the National Theatre of the Deaf. Her television credits include “Will & Grace,” “Just Shoot Me,” “Everybody Loves Raymond “ and “Beverly Hills 90210,” among others. She produced and co-wrote her one-woman show, Just Tell Them You’re From Scarsdale, which she performed in New York and Los Angeles. The short film she directed, produced and starred in, Grace, played in film festivals from Sarasota to Santa Cruz. She created, produced and performed in the celebrity benefit, Glen Mary Glen Rose: Women Do Men, in Los Angeles, which raised funds for breast cancer research as well as awareness around the lack of diverse roles for women. As a new mom, she invented, patented and manufactured blankyclip, a stroller accessory. She sold blankyclips nationally in Buy Buy Baby, as well as in many boutiques across the country and around the world. Her product was recognized as a Top Pick in publications such as Fit Pregnancy and LA Parent Magazine. At her children’s elementary school, she produced an annual fundraising talent show and wrote grants to provide creative writing programs. She sat on the Education Board of Temple Sinai in Glendale, CA for five years. She is the mother of two, and lives in Los Angeles with her family. Clipped is her first book.

A step-by-step guide to get the best bang for your buck. These new tactics and skills will help you refine your sales techniques to exceed your expectations.

Become a true salesman.

About The Author

John Reger is a successful entrepreneur and is currently the owner of ten businesses. He was born in Guam and grew up in Houston, Texas. John is goal-oriented and has a hunger to reach for success every day. His businesses range in a variety of shopping centers, clothing lines, window tinting, buildings, and HDS rental homes. He has amazing relations with commercial businesses who have partnered with him such as Hot Topic, Party City, Spirit Halloween, and hundreds of other outlets nationwide. His business is recognized internationally in the United Kingdom, the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand.

John dropped out of school at the age of fifteen, and he began his entrepreneurship journey at the age of eighteen. He was determined to exceed expectations beyond recognition and was a firm believer in “never doing just enough.” He considers himself an engineer designer, contractor, and businessman all in one. This kind of ambition has taken the young entrepreneur beyond the roots of intellect by becoming a perspicacious achiever and a champion. Throughout his trials, John learned to ameliorate success in his failures. He took risks that ended up costing him fortunes, and even when those losses seem to have castigated him, his determination to rise above the error branded him as a true master of entrepreneurship.

John considers himself as a private man who rarely shows himself in news and media outlets. Instead, John reticently stays behind the scenes, blithely away from the world to focus on what truly matters, such as his wife, kids, and his businesses. A contributing factor to John’s entrepreneurship experiences was his father. He considers his father being “the smartest man in the world,” and was his mentor from his late adolescent years until his young adult life. John enjoys sharing his knowledge with other entrepreneurs. He wrote the book Don’t Talk for Free, about his successes and sales techniques.

Aside from his many achievements, John’s hobbies are car racing and boxing. He enjoys collecting exotic cars but also enjoys a casual life by driving his truck or Jeep Cherokee daily. He enjoys spending time with his six wonderful children and his beautiful wife.

The Story of the Chad Mitchell Trio

Non-Fiction

Date to be Published: August 11th

Publisher: Acorn Publishing

Of all the groups to emerge during the folk era of the 1960’s, first the Chad Mitchell Trio and later The Mitchell Trio were unequivocally the best. Their complex harmonies, sense of comedic timing and stage presence were unique to the folk movement. They didn’t enjoy the commercial success of other groups because their material made political and social statements that radio and television refused to play. They were wildly popular, though, on college campuses throughout the country during this turbulent time and fostered political and social awareness among thousands of young men and women as they faced the challenging era ahead.

But as Mike, Chad and Joe Frazier raced along a frantic treadmill of rehearsals, recording sessions, nightclubs and concerts, Mike and Chad began to realize the demand for musical perfection was the only thing they had in common. Their personalities were and remain polar opposites. When Chad left in 1965, neither mourned the parting. John Denver replaced Chad. Two years later, Joe’s demons caught up to him forcing Mike and John to fire Joe.

When folk reunions became popular, fans and folk historians agreed that The Trio was the one group that would never take the stage again. Their schism was just too great.

Mike and Chad and Joe hadn’t spoken in twenty years. Then came a call. I will if he will. Their mentor and music director Milt Okun worried they were making a mistake. They couldn’t possibly be as good as their fans remembered.

They were. Mike and Chad kept their day jobs, and their distance. But once again, they shared the music.
