Romance

Date Published: eBook March 4, 2021 – print May 4, 2021

For two unlikely strangers, the snow swept mountains of Aspen remind us all that love and luck thrive on uneven ground. While newly widowed Mark stews in the shadows of success and loss, conservative Susan shoulders a weight of uncertainty from her romantic past. Can a single dinner for one change the course of fate? Can these starkly different individuals reconcile their own demons enough to see eye to eye? The scene may be right--but what of timing? In the heart of Colorado, under the watchful eye of the majestic Rocky Mountains, visionary Mark and stubborn Susan share a dance of swirling emotions that can only lead to something explosive. Suddenly, without meaning to, they set themselves down a path of self reflection--and personal reconciliation. Will Mark and Susan be able to overcome their own personal ideals and misgivings leading them to palpable passion? Even in the cold mountain town of Aspen--the flames of fervor flicker brightly.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
Consolidating my descriptions.  Being very detail oriented I have a tendency to go too far in depth about looks and feelings.  I struggle with putting all the pertinent information into a few words.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I like all songs by Enya, Sade and Vanessa Daou

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes, my significant other and five outside beta readers

What book are you reading now?

At the moment I am concentrating on writing and reading is a luxury I do not have time for.

How did you start your writing career?

I started writing technical journals in the finance industry; it wasn’t until recently that I have taken up fiction writing.

Tell us about your next release.

Well, I am not really sure what it is going to be – I am working on 3 books.  One I started three years ago thinking that would be my first release but there are some technology advancements that have changed the story so it is still a work in progress.  Another one is a love story about a jazz musician and the third is complicated.  All I can say about that one is it will be very different, not mainstream at all.  I will release one book a year and right now, since I am writing all three at once, I really couldn’t say which one will be next.

Date Published: 2/1/2021

After a full-grown gorilla is kidnapped in the middle of the night from the San Diego Zoo, Jim is hired by a Hollywood movie producer to try to track down the animal. Following the death of a child and the collapse of a marriage, Jim has been surviving as a private detective in Los Angeles. Jim follows the peculiar trial of clues, including the business card of a mysterious gypsy fortune teller, deep into the dark abandoned subway tunnels beneath New York City. Meanwhile, a young boy in Brooklyn secretly keeps a list of his fears in his closet, adding fears and crossing them off as he ages. Near the top of the list is one word that has never been crossed off: “God”. Their lives become mixed in this darkly relevant, heart pounding adventure that will keep you up at night, making you ask yourself questions that you may not be ready to answer.

Interview
What is the hardest part of writing your books?
Trevor Shane Response:  I’ve now written seven novels and published six of them—five with major publishers and then List of Fears, which I chose to self-publish. Each one of them has had its own challenges. Of all of them, List of Fears was far and away the easiest for me to write. Jim and Vintner’s story really seemed to flow out of me. Every chapter, every paragraph, even every sentence had a purpose in the story and in bringing the characters to life. All that being said, I believe in the phrase: writing is easy, editing is hard. The most painful part of writing is always rereading your work and trying to make it better because you have to deal with all of the nagging doubts about your own abilities.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

Trevor Shane Response:  My family has a small party every New Year’s Eve (except 2020 – F you COVID), where I only play music that was released during that year (both popular and obscure), so I spend much of each year trying to find new music that I love. It helps me to keep my own creative juices flowing to be reminded that new, beautiful things keep being created every day. So far this year, I’m really digging the releases by Josh Barry (specifically Adam in the Evening) and Allison Russell (specifically Nightflyer). But Making You Cry by The Lone Bellow is my current favorite. That song is a God damn time machine.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Trevor Shane Response:  I have friends that still indulge me by reading early drafts of my work. I’ve never been part of a critique group with other writers. I feel like style and jealousy get in the way there. Instead, I send books to some select friends that I know love to read and try to figure out what they liked and didn’t like by how quickly they respond and what words they use. If I get “This is awesome” after a couple days, I’m good. If I hear, “I liked it” after three weeks, then I have a lot of work to do. I remember when I sent out List of Fears to my friends, the responses were quick and super-positive so I knew I was on to something.

What book are you reading now?

Trevor Shane Response:  I alternate between fiction and non-fiction because they inspire me in different ways. The most recent non-fiction book that I read was A Paradise Built in Hell by Emily Beresford which is really a great read for people who need a reminder that most people are ultimately good. On the fiction side, I recently started The Midnight Library by Matt Haig which is exactly the type of earnest, deep, speculative fiction that I enjoy.

How did you start your writing career?

Trevor Shane Response:  I’ve published six books and List of Fears is the first one that I’ve ever self-published (I simply loved it too much to hand it to an editor who would want to make commercial changes). All my other books were published by Penguin Random House, and I still have a day job. What I’m saying is that I don’t know if I would call my writing a career. It’s more of a passion. I often think that’s for the best though, because it allows me to write what I want to write and what I think my select audience wants to read, instead of trying to sell something to the masses. But to answer your question, how did I start my writing career? Simple, I had an idea (this was for Children of Paranoia which I sold well over a decade ago) I picked up a pen and piece of paper and started writing.

Tell us about your next release.

Trevor Shane Response:  Right now, I am 100% focused on trying to build an audience for List of Fears. I love this book so much and I think that it may really be able to cause people to think while still entertaining them. I finished the first daft List of Fears over twelve years ago and this story about standing up to fate just seems to be more and more relevant every year. I know that sounds strange when describing a book about a private detective that is hired to find a gorilla that is kidnapped from the San Diego Zoo but, trust me, this book will take you places you didn’t expect to go.

He is a graduate of Columbia University and Georgetown Law Center. He currently lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two sons.

Mystery

Date Published: 4/27/2021

Publisher: Level Best Books (S&S)

COLDWATER REVENGE is the story of two brothers involved with the same woman, and the ensuing crisis when one brother begins to suspect the other of helping her cover up a murder.

Excerpt

The tiny voice that sometimes appears when you’re about to do something stupid, hissed at Tom to be thankful, sit still and keep his mouth shut. Instead, he braced himself on the underwater rock, gathered breath and shouted.

Yo!” His throat was raw and his lungs shredded, but he continued to bellow. “Eat shit and die, asshole!” Tom struggled to his feet and staggered noisily through the shin-deep shallows. The spotlight from the patrol boat leapt toward the sound. As the boat drew nearer, he dropped and rolled to his back, as if he were afloat in deep water. The twin Sea Witch outboards roared and the thirty-foot cruiser leapt through a cone of halogen light. Tom lifted his one good arm and waved. The battered cruiser hydroplaned erratically through the water like a wounded shark. The bow-mounted spotlight bounced above and around its target, losing and then finding it again. Tom could see the man’s face in the halo of light—cadaverous and grim. He could see his eyes, mad and murderous. The little voice screamed at Tom to be quiet and lie still. He crouched in the shallow water, extended his arm and raised a finger.

Shadows of Council Creek (Book 2)

Romantic Suspense

Date Published: 03-26-2021

Laurie Lancey has always loved the old picturesque bridge over Council Creek; it's that beauty which gave the town its name.

But then...

A near miss... A chinese fortune cookie with a deadly warning

A murdered co-worker

She knows now the serenity is just a deception. Something sinister is going on here,

And it's all around her.

Investigator Nick Allyn barely manages to save her when the shots are fired.

"This tells me only one thing, young lady," he tells her firmly.

"Those bullets were meant for you.

And only you."

About the Author

It all started with my fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. J. Ever the elegant, perfectly coiffured lady, gave us an assignment to write a short story and read it aloud to the class.

Mine was about a group of fifth grade kids who went on a weekend camping trip, and encountered a grizzly bear. When it was my turn, I read.

Poor Mrs. J! I began to notice a twitch around her left eye sometime around the approach of the grizzly bear. By the time the body parts began flying, it had increased to her mouth, and her whole face was as white as a sheet.

But she was a trooper, and stayed upright throughout the whole story.

However, the other kids loved the story, because it was about them. Suddenly, I was hooked! Over the years, my writing changed from gory stories (my term as a kid) to space stories. Then spy stories, and finally romance. But the other thing I found I really loved was mystery and romance. I wasn’t satisfied with just reading it. I wanted to write it!

Virtual Book Tour: The Bifurcation of Dungsten Crease by Richard Hacker #blogtour #interview #giveaway #scifi #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

Science Fiction

Date Published: March 15, 2021

Publisher: Del Sol Press

In the course of a morning, Dungsten Crease resurrects his neighbor’s dog, is arrested by TSA for carrying a weapon which never existed, and drowns a woman at an airline ticket counter—or could he be hallucinating? In his panic he locks himself in the men's room of a coffee shop only to find a strange man in cycling togs sharing the space. The lanky intruder claims to be Dungsten’s neurally implanted concierge unit who has two disturbing messages. Dungsten is a Shaper—an obsolete, genetically programmed tool created by a bankrupt galactic corporation to terraform planetary experiences for vacationing clients; and the woman he inadvertently killed at the airport with his Shaper abilities will be the love of his life. Attracting government agents who want to weaponize him and Galactic Business Council assassins who want to terminate him, fear drives the Shaper within to inadvertently bifurcate, a second Dungsten also now running from his pursuers. But bifurcation comes at a price: loss of appetite, swelling of the hands and feet, an erection lasting longer than four hours, loss of bladder control, rectal bleeding, psychosis, convulsions, and sudden death. To pull himself back together and if he’s lucky, survive, he must master his Shaper abilities before he becomes a victim, or worse, accidentally destroys Earth and everyone he loves along with it.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Proofreading. Writing is the fun part when I get to create characters and place them in a world. And while editing is a bit more technical, I’m still crafting the story, working on structure, pace, tension, and all the elements that make good storytelling. But finding typos, misspellings, errant commas—kill me now!

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I’m a huge jazz fan. Lately I’ve been grooving to old Carmel Jones recordings (check out Night Tide) and quite a bit of Bill Evans (must be a pandemic thing to relax), Snarky Puppy, and did you happen to hear Chick Corea’s Grammy winning album? We lost a great one, but I’m sure glad he was with us for a time. I’ve also been digging the Black Pumas, Gary Clark Jr., and Larkin Poe.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I used to read regularly with a critique group, but I think we all eventually found the issues we needed feedback about could not be worked in a selection from a chapter. So I have beta readers of various sorts. Some are writers who can give technical feedback, some are readers who can give me a great inside perspective on what it’s like to read the story. Both are quite helpful. And I’ve got a friend who catches little details—the blue pickup on page 2 turned into a red sedan on page 202. Awesome.

What book are you reading now?

At the moment, I’m reading a Tana French novel, The Searcher about an American in Ireland. Beautiful writing. Prior to that I read fellow Del Sol Press author, Melanie Bacon’s mystery, The Detectivists: Dragon Ripper. A new take on Sherlock Holmes. Great read.

How did you start your writing career?

I was a frustrated writer, making a living doing other things and having very little time to write. Then I decided I better focus or I’d lose the chance to do what I love. The Bifurcation of Dungsten Crease is actually the evolution of the first novel I wrote, but did not publish. It was followed by three humorous thrillers set in Texas and two fantasy thrillers—all published by Del Sol Press.

Tell us about your next release.

Thanks for hosting me on the blog. Much appreciated! Here’s a little blurb about my latest novel.

The Birfucation of Dungsten Crease is a story about an ordinary person who discovers something extraordary about himself and then must figure out a way to live in this new world. In the course of a morning, Dungsten Crease resurrects his neighbor’s dog, is arrested by TSA for carrying a weapon, and drowns a woman at an airline ticket counter. In a panic, he locks himself in the men's room of a coffee shop only to find a strange man in cycling togs sharing the space.

No one ever said being a galactic corporate tool would be easy.

Virtual Book Tour: From the Inside by Thanvi Voruganti #blogtour #poetry #giveaway #rabtbooktours @AuthorParul @RABTBookTours
2:00 AM0 Comments

Poetry

Date Published: March 15, 2021

This book of poems is about thoughts, feelings, and emotions we all experience, struggle with, and that have been brought to the forefront by this current pandemic. Losing loved ones, our freedom, and everything taken for granted in our daily lives; while facing sadness, anger, grief, and loneliness, has taught us the importance of our love for nature, gratitude, happiness, cherished memories, and relationships. No feeling or emotion is too small or negligible. Acknowledging and expressing them is my voice from the inside.

Interview

What was your main drive to write this book?

- In complete honesty, there was no main drive when writing From the Inside. I had just begun writing poetry during the summer and continued because of pure interest until I had enough to publish a book.

What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?

- I hope readers will learn to express themselves and to confide in someone, anyone truly to acknowledge their happiness, sadness, pain, and many others. No emotion is too small to be recognized, and still, if readers cannot acknowledge their voice, then I will through my voice.

Did you do much research when planning this book?

- Writing poetry about emotions did not require a great deal of research, but it did require observation. Observing is a more resourceful technique as well as empathy as it helps me, as an author to feel for the person and be able to understand their thoughts. I did however research cogent and eloquent words and improve my vocabulary significantly to compel readers and help them feel more connected to my poetry.

Did you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or influenced you to write it?

- I am extremely appreciative of numerous people who have guided me through my poetry journey including my father, my illustrator, my publisher, and my English teacher. However, the person who I believe has aided me immensely is my mother. My mother has slaved over this book, putting her blood, sweat, and tears into publishing my book, working with the illustrator, showing assertive and always giving me a nudge to keep going.

How long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?

-  Writing this book took me one month more than it should have to have the book published, however, the real issue was deciding the colors and design of the cover, taking weeks and even months.

Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new topics?

- I have plans to write a novel on realistic fiction or perhaps historical fiction which I believe to be quite appealing. I have always enjoyed reading realistic and historical fiction and writing a book on a historical event will be quite interesting and I am delighted to explore new topics. I perhaps would also write one last poetry book before tackling a novel as my interest in writing poetry will never fade and I am eager to introduce some of my new poems to the public.
