Excerpt

“If I have to wait until Monday for him to repair the car, I’ll need to find a hotel.”

“There’s one inn and one bed and breakfast in town and they’re both completely booked months in advance.” His eyes twinkle and he laughs the deep, echoing laugh that I’m starting to get use to. “I’m not making this up. You can call and check for yourself, if you don’t believe me. Strawberry Festival is a big deal and people travel from out of town to come and enjoy the festivities. You’ll have to spend the night with me.”

The last thing I need right now is to spend the night with David. With the undeniable attraction between the two of us, I know exactly what will happen. My vow to not mix work and my social life has completely gone haywire, because here I am sitting in the cozy intimacy of his car. Betsy is on the way to the mechanic’s garage and I’m stuck in a remote little town that I never knew existed until a week ago. On top of that I’m with the most magnetic man I’ve ever met, who manages to make me feel emotions that are simultaneously new, exciting and frightening.

“I’m okay with that.” He’s the kind of man that I can trust. It’s me I’m more worried about. If we are going to be in close proximity, I’m not certain that I can keep my hands to myself. “Do you have a two-bedroom apartment in Littleton?’ I try to sound nonchalant.

“No, I don’t.” He has a twinkle in his eyes. “I have a one bedroom.”

“Oh,” I sigh, resigned to the fact that this is going to be a super challenging weekend. “We’ll have to make the best of it then, won’t we?”

He throws his head back and lets out a deep, robust laugh.

“What’s so funny?” Here I am getting all sweaty, nervous and yes, even a little aroused, thinking about the possibility of sharing a bed with him and he’s laughing like its a joke.

“Okay.” He gains control of himself—finally, casting a more serious expression in my direction. “You should have seen the look on your face. As if it would be torture to have to share a bed with me.”

“That’s what’s so funny?” I glare at his remarkably even features. If only he knew that I was wondering what kind of underwear he wore, boxers, briefs or God forbid, that the man slept in the nude. “Better that you don’t try to read my mind. Although, I’m glad to see that you have a good sense of humor.”

“Of course I do.” He gives me an odd look, and his words are slightly defensive. “Who doesn’t have a sense of humor?”

“Can we stick to the subject?” I tap my fingers on my leg and l glance at him inquisitively. “So…we’ll be sharing a room, is basically what you’re saying?”

A Fake-Dating Romance

Date Published: June 11, 2026

I didn’t join the force to play dress-up in designer heels and pretend to be someone’s girlfriend, but apparently life has a twisted sense of humor. And mine comes with a six-foot-something ego, a movie-star smile, and a peculiar knack for getting under my skin.

Marco Dal Santo is everything I don’t trust: cocky, charming, reckless, and way too comfortable in a world built on smoke and mirrors. I’m supposed to use him to get close to people who hide crimes behind champagne and expensive suits. He’s supposed to be a means to an end. Convenient. Temporary. And fake.

But there’s one small problem. It doesn’t really feel fake because every time he touches me, every time he pushes past my defenses and makes me feel something real, I forget that we’re supposed to be pretending. Somewhere between the staged kisses and very real arguments, the lines get blurred, and I can’t tell what’s part of the job…and what isn’t.

We’re caught up in a world where one wrong move can get us killed, yet I’m starting to realize the most dangerous part of this case isn’t the criminals we’re chasing.

It’s him.

Because if anyone finds out I’m developing genuine feeling for my fake boyfriend, I’ll lose my badge, my mentor’s trust, and possibly my heart in the process.

So yeah…I’m in way over my head.

And the worst part?

I’m not sure I want to be rescued.

Trigger warning: Gun violence, trauma victim and grief.

With a national lockdown looming, a Southern journalist flees north, determined to jumpstart her career in the safety of a Minnesota wilderness, feisty and wary of entanglements, she piques the interest of a bored Native American rock star.

A pandemic is spreading across the globe. A national lockdown looms in the United States. A Southern journalist sees a chance to protect her health and jumpstart her career by escaping north to a Minnesota wilderness. Feisty and wary of entanglement, she piques the interest of a bored Native American rock star on his way home.

Robby Song’s career may be on hold, but Grace Wheeler is on a mission to build hers. To Robby, she’s an intriguing challenge. To Grace, he’s a distraction she’s not ready to handle. But the brutal Northwoods winter is coming. Grace flees back south . . . to soul-searching isolation and a puzzling middle-of-the-night call.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

That life gets in the way. I have to stop writing to attend to other things, like clean underwear, or food, or visitors, or sleep. I want to write constantly.

What are your most played songs?

While writing STRINGS, all of Jakob Dylan, The Wallflowers’ Exit Wounds, and Lyle Lovett’s Step Inside this House

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

A few valued friends, a writers’ group in Minnesota, and a manuscript review person

What book are you reading now?

The Known World by Edward P. Jones

How did you start your writing career?

I started writing at 4:30 a.m., Monday, 7 February 2022, to quiet the characters in my head who were having a conversation in an airport. I thought if I wrote down what they were saying — got it out of my head — they would be quiet and I could get some sleep. Didn’t work.

Tell us about your next release.

The novel I’m writing now is BREATHE. It’s contemporary fiction about a piece of land near the Canadian border and the complex network of people connected to it. A grieving daughter moves fifteen hundred miles and takes a job with her childhood idols to be near the land she sees as a connection to her dad. An Ojibwe guide seduces her to gain legal right to it. A mammoth dog comes out of its woods and becomes her companion. Ojibwe cousins fall in love with her. One of them nearly kills her; the other saves her life.

About the Author

Jan Merritt is passionate about teaching both in the classroom and on horses, but brain cancer changed her life. Surgeries and treatments have left her with a new brain, one that does not have skills to teach middle school English or balance to ride horses . . . but loves to create stories.

Jan lives on the coast of South Carolina with strong ties to northern Minnesota. Growing up was filled with rich but conflicting narratives. Her dad told stories about his pioneering Minnesota family, egalitarian values, and the importance of self-reliance. They made annual trips to family cabins on a lake north of Duluth. But in her friends’ homes back in Charleston, she was immersed in plantation lore, tales of the Confederacy, and exclusive traditions of a social set that she was not born into. She is married to a musician who is also a mental health therapist. They have three children.

Contemporary Romance

There are three things that I know about myself:

1. I am a woman of no importance at all.

2. I am a woman who, one day, fell in love with the least likely person.

3. I am a woman who faced the worst aspects of herself—and vows to never go back.

Briseis Cunningham—plain and ordinary!

After the 2024 Presidential Election, Briseis, a patriotic tour guide, felt like she wanted to take a tour of her own city of Philadelphia, looking for resolution in the past. While sitting on the tour bus, she has flashbacks of the last three summers, and what was occurring in her country at the time. Weighted down by the worries of the choice her nation just made, she undergoes a great deal of soul searching.

Beginning with one summer, in 2022, she accepts a job, working at the Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival. While there, she meets all the talented performers, but one stands out the most: Jin Chang, a Face Changer.

From there, it all begins!

Follow the tale of an American woman who stumbles on love for a man from another side of the world… and while also having to come to terms with what has just happened in the United States, her fear of the loss of the American Experiment, and her worries of where her country is headed.

About the Author

Hello, readers! My name is B. J. Quander, and I am an American Revolution history enthusiast, who has always been compelled to learn about the origins of the United States of America, as well as the countries that created it, that have inspired it, and the native nations that this land belongs to.

I also have a great respect for the constitution, the law, and strictly upholding it. After all, many of my fellow Americans, along with other nations who have helped us, have died for the American Experiment to live. Being a native Philadelphian, I have felt the tie that connects us back to the foundations of a war that was fought on principles of a free government and defiance against unchecked authoritarianism. Did we fail? Plenty of times. But the dream still was there, and it felt real. Or it did once. This book I wrote is about a heroine who worries about the sun setting on our nation, as opposed to the sun rising on it, while also being willing to fall in love. Thank you for stopping by.

Book Blitz: The Statistically Unlikely Rebound by Parker Elling #romance #contemporary #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

Grad or Die Romance, Book #1

Romance, Contemporary Romance

Date Published: February 14, 2026

Two fake-dating mathematicians create all kinds of chemistry in this forced proximity STEMinist romance for fans of Ali Hazelwood and Abby Jimenez.

Mathematician Daisy Zhang-Wainwright’s fiancé Ethan unceremoniously dumps her 29 days before she’s due to move cross-country to be with him and start a new university job. But Daisy’s always been stubborn, and she’s not about to turn down a postdoc at MIT over a failed relationship, so here she is, in a last-minute apartment with minimal furniture, no friends, and a dumpster fire of a bank account.

To make matters worse, her new downstairs neighbor is Professor Lars Berg-Anderson, Ethan’s academic rival, infamously cold and notoriously antisocial. Daisy has barely settled in when she discovers that not only is Ethan in a new relationship, it’s with Daisy’s new potential colleague… who is pregnant. Daisy doesn’t need her math PhD to work out that the two relationships overlapped.

So when the happy couple arrives at Daisy’s house-warming party, what can she do but impulsively suggest Lars kiss her? Lars might be MIT’s ice man, but he’s also objectively hot. But, the more time they spend together, the harder it is for either of them to maintain appropriate boundaries. Daisy’s not ready for anything serious and Lars believes relationships have an “unfavorable benefit to effort ratio”, so these two are definitely way too smart to get emotionally entangled in a for-show, completely fake, rebound. Right?

About the Author

I'm a blessed (but often exhausted) mother of four. I learned English by reading regency-era romances by the bagful, and when I ran out of escapist fiction that was exactly the type I wanted (usually lower stakes, usually lighter on the angst though sometimes I lean in), I started to write my own. I also publish children's books under Marie Chow.
