The Conscious Art of Embracing

Nonfiction / Health / Body, Mind & Spirit / Self-Help

Date Published: May 17, 2021

Publisher: Cool Creative Press

HOLDING: The Conscious Art of Embracing, draws us into our deep longing to hold and to be held. Through simple words, images and wonder, we touch this need and recognize that when we are conscious and intentional, we can hold with our arms. We can hold with our words. We can hold with our very presence.

Choose this book for you own or to gift to others who want to create a legacy of holding in their families and the world.

Excerpt

This book was a “waking up” for me of a need that lives deeply within my life, decades away from my birth. As Robin Grille encouraged in his teachings, holding is essential for our successful evolution and advancement. As my sweet lover-of-life nephew reminds me, holding is continually emerging.

The sweetness of holding myself in a new way has brought more love and coherence to my life.

I hope this book embraces you and your little one; that it fosters a deep sense of loving kindness. I like to think of holding as a muscle that we work every day of our lives. We create a tradition of holding long before our child comes to us.

As I was inspired by this notion of holding, I observed holding myself in new ways. I found a stillness that my body, mind, and spirit could relax into. I found myself leaning into invisible realms and feeling the benevolence of wonder, the spark of curiosity.

I wonder how this tree might hold me?

I wonder how I can be in relationship with

those I love from afar.

How can I hold them even now?

I invite you to hold yourselves in unfamiliar ways. I

implore you to pioneer new possibilities and carve out deep territories of compassion within your hearts. It is my aspiration that this book stirs you to hold yourself, those you love, and the whole world in new ways.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Every part is the hardest!  For me, description can be difficult, so I don’t do a lot of it.  Also, plotting.  I don’t do all of the plotting ahead of time because the stories are too complex and I need to react as things unfold, which makes it much more difficult, at least for me.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I don’t even own an Ipod and I like dead silence when I write.  When I’m not behind the keyboard, I love country music.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I belonged to a critic group when I first started writing.  It’s a great way to learn basic skills or improve what you already know.  No Beta readers but great feedback on my Facebook Page.

What book are you reading now?

Loreth Anne White, a fabulous suspense writer.  Beneath the Devil’s Bridge.  Gruesome, but fabulous.

How did you start your writing career?

My husband wrote a book.  I was helping him with grammar and spelling and I got hooked.  We each sold our first novels the same year and were published 6 weeks apart.

Tell us about your next release.

This is from the back jacket copy.  It says it better than I can.

When Kade Logan said goodbye to his estranged wife eight years ago, he never thought it would be the last time he saw her alive. Now her car has been hauled out of a nearby lake and Kade is determined to track down the man who murdered her.   Kade hires Eleanor Bowman, a private investigator, to go under cover on his Colorado ranch.

With old scandals still buzzing about his late wife’s many affairs and new violence erupting, Kade is faced with the discovery of another beautiful woman’s body.  Are the two killings linked? Who is the man who seduced, then murdered both women?  Ellie Bowman believes they are dangerously close to the truth.

From corporate Denver high rises to posh Vail mansions, Kade and Ellie sense the killer is closing in again and this time Ellie is the target.  Kade must risk everything to save the woman he’s coming to love—before she becomes the next victim . . .

Explore the little-known truth about what it really means to love your neighbor as yourself.

Loving your neighbor as yourself is an act of the will, not something you feel. At least that's what most Christians believe. But is that what the Bible actually teaches? In Love Is an Emotion R. L. Lewis invites you to take an honest look at the scriptures and determine the answer to this question for yourself. As you reason your way through these pages, you'll discover:

●      How the common view of "Christian" love measures up to the test of logic.

●      How the subjective nature of emotion relates to the objective truth of God's Word

●      How a revised definition of love can impact our understanding of the gospel of grace.

If you're eager to explore the little-known truth about what it really means to love your neighbor as yourself, this book is for you.

Interview

What was your main drive to write this book?

I’ve always been fascinated with how emotions “fit” into the Christian life, probably because I’ve so often struggled to figure out how to deal with them in my own life. That fascination eventually led me to the view I hold today about love’s being an emotion. But I have rarely found a book written from a Christian perspective that doesn’t talk about love without defining it as some kind of action or commitment. So, I decided to write my own book and shine a brighter light on an immensely underrepresented perspective.

What do you hope readers will learn by reading this book?

Realizing that love is an emotion can be a frightening experience for a believer. At least it most certainly was for me. It made me realize my sinful condition apart from Christ was far worse than I could ever imagine. So, I hope this book helps readers learn how to properly respond to that conviction by walking them through God’s Word and highlighting the glorious gospel of his grace.

Did you do much research when planning this book?

Oh, yes, much more than I ever imagined I would! That’s one reason why it took me so long to write such a short book. Rarely would I find the answer to one question without having three other questions pop up for me to investigate. I’ve often heard about how much you learn whenever you try to teach a subject. Well, the same goes for writing about a subject!

Did you have any main people who helped you in the process of this book or influenced you to write it?

At least five years before I started writing this book, I read Dr. Matthew Elliott’s book Feel. He was the first person to make me feel a little less crazy for being a Christian who thinks that love is an emotion. So, his influence on me was profound, and I actually quote his work several times in my book. Of course, I would also be incredibly remiss if I didn’t mention my wife in my answer to this question. There are approximately one billion things I couldn’t do without her in my life. And finishing this book was certainly one of them.

How long did this book take you to write from initial thought to hitting publish?

The whole process took about six years on the dot, beginning in the Summer of 2015. Of course, I wasn’t working on the book that entire time because other projects often took precedence. But it was always there marinating in the back of my mind, especially during Saturday morning lawnmowing sessions.

Do you have plans to write more about this topic or new topics?

I would love to expand this book someday to include whatever objections and further implications may surface as more people read it. Beyond that, I definitely want to keep writing about things that hopefully challenge and edify the Body of Christ to the best of my ability.

Love story with hard edges

From the depths of tragedy it might well be that anything is possible. ‘Words on Paper’ is moving story based on a real life tragedy that divided strangers even further apart. However, for them, aside from all the pain, is a hope that life still has potential, and the reminder that in life sometimes two minuses make a plus. Emma and Will have nothing in common other than a mutual tragedy and a pain they share from a different perspective. All things are achievable but the fates are fickle and their lives are on hold as they travel the rocky road that could lead from tragedy to contentment.

Excerpt

What is the hardest part of writing your books? The most challenging is learning to understand your characters and making certain that they are not just an extension of yourself. Never ever let the characters be informed or guided by what I would do in their circumstances.

What songs are most played on your Ipod? I love to have my music on shuffle; not knowing if I’m going to get Eminem or Beethoven in the next track keeps me on my toes.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers? Yes, four in total – all female of various ages and ethnicity.

What book are you reading now? Just finished reading ‘Where the Crawdads Sing,” which I enjoyed. Quite inspirational that such a flawed piece of writing could sell 5 million copies! Moved on to ‘The Sea,’ by John Banville which is beautifully written, but quite depressing.

How did you start your writing career? My partner forced me to go to a Creative Writing course.

Tell us about your next release. I am halfway through the third thriller in the Pin-up and Tanner series, provisionally entitled Out of Hand. Depending on the reaction that Words on Paper receives I have an idea for another novel in a similar style.

Standalone, set in the Paper Flower Consortium world

Paranormal (Vampires)

Date Published: June 21, 2021

Publisher: ZB Publications

Issaquah, Washington, USA

1951

My name is Norma Mae Rollins. I’m fourteen and an illegal vampire. I miss my mom, but new ghoulish appetites force me to remain with my creator.

Bill didn’t mean to transform me. At least, that’s what he claims. His frightening temper, relentless lies, and morbid scientific experiments makes it hard to know what to believe. However, someone snitched about Bill’s experiments to a nearby coven. Now both of our corpses will burn.

Bill won’t run. He is curious what happens to a vampire after final death. I don’t want to die again. It hurt so much the first time. Bill thinks his vampire boyfriend might shelter me. I must brave an eternal existence with elder vampires and other monsters who don’t think I ought to exist. Oh and figure out who I am allowed to eat.

A vampire’s reality is nothing like the movies.

Excerpt

From the diary of Norma Mae Rollins

Icy fingers, too big to be Teddy’s, gripped my arms.

The Fuzz, I thought.

The sheriff would call Mom. I had a few sips of beer and smoked, but I wasn’t blitzed. At worse, Mom would be “very disappointed” and give me extra chores.

My feet lifted from the ground. Wind bit the bare flesh of my arms, legs, and face. Branches whipped past me in frenzied movement. Nothing made logical sense. I seemed to fly underneath the dark shape which held me. I was dropped onto the concrete floor of somewhere cold that smelled of rotten meat and filth. Fangs loomed in front of me.

Vampires aren’t supposed to be real!

I screamed and struck the vampire with my flashlight. His pale lip split open and quickly stitched back together. He yanked the flashlight from my hand. I protected my throat with my arms, because in the movies, vampires always bite people in the throat.

He punched me.

Dazed, I fell backward into a metal table. He lifted me onto it and rolled me over.

I spotted the pit half-filled with rotting bodies. Their mottled flesh twisted in bizarre angles. Cloudy eyes stared at the ceiling.

I wildly kicked backward. I felt air. I connected. He grunted and leaned one hand on my back, pressing me into the metal. With his other hand, he ripped off my shoe and bobby-sock. His fangs pierced my heel. When he reopened his mouth, he whispered something about Achilles.

I tried to lift myself off the gurney, but the vampire still had me pinned as he dictated into an old Sound Scriber.

Cold leeched through my summer blouse. My muscles ached, then spasmed. The barn spun. Darkness.

No! Mom’ll wake up…I won’t be home… She won’t know what happened. I’ll be a rotting body covered in lye.

The vampire loosened his grip to check his stopwatch. I twisted. With my uninjured leg, I kicked the vampire as hard as I could.

Freed but light-headed, I sat and elbowed him in the chest. Agonizing pain radiated into my arm. Ignoring the throbbing, I punched him in his mouth, maybe his nose. Blood sprayed onto my face. My eyes teared, burning with his fiery blood. My lips tasted like copper.

The vampire grabbed me.

With one final burst of strength, I lunged and clamped my teeth onto his hand. Salty, syrupy blood coated my mouth….

Journal of William T. Caruso

Subject 073, Adolescent Female

Method: Bloodletting though the heel

Status: Transformed

How is it possible I created a vampire from this girl when grown men have perished by my fangs?

I simply wanted to discern the rate of blood loss if I opened the posterior tibial artery near the Achilles compared to other methods. This is an unexpectable complication, but now I comprehend the pain in creating a vampire. I have created one, I can create others.

I had been hunting for suitable subjects when flashlight beams on the west side of Tiger Mountain attracted my attention. Six teenagers played in an empty field. I originally thought about taking a boy, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from Subject 073.

My mind linked with hers per the magnetic connection I share with Derrik. Another telepath? A modern teenager like her did not believe in anything beyond her human existence. Vampires were movie apparitions, superstition. Yet, she looked at the tree where I concealed myself.

Mostly her mind was full of the pleasure of girlish infatuation, but her hidden wish had nothing to do with boys. Better she be my victim than see her future dreams die long before she did. After the world squashed her, she would be a farmer like her mother. Or some idiot would drop The Bomb. Wasting such spirited blood would be a sin…
