A lifetime journey. A test of faith. A calling to a deeper love. This is more than a book; it's a heartfelt testament to resilience, devotion, and discovering love's true meaning through the eyes of King David.

In Becoming One with Christ, I share my journey--a lifetime of seeking spiritual depth and strength, which was put to the ultimate test during the pandemic. During that turbulent time, I encountered profound revelations through David's trials, triumphs, and unwavering faith. Now I want to share these lessons with you in hopes they will inspire and embolden your own walk of faith.

Interview

Tell me more about your journey as an author, including the writing processes.

For eleven years after I left the Marine Corps, I wanted to become the next Stephen King. The problem was, I could never finish a manuscript. Finally in 2017, I switched genres and wrote Whiskey and Yoga, about helping you find your purpose in life. Let’s just say that writing process was a series of fits and starts. After nursing the monkey on my back for eleven years, I didn’t have the confidence that I could finish a manuscript. It went onto be a #1 international bestseller and I am thrilled that it’s changed people’s lives.

The Lighthouse Keeper came along 3 years later and was released just as the pandemic began. I still didn’t have a great “writing process” in that I didn’t write as a habit. What made this book different was the amount of time I spent researching lighthouses. My first work of fiction, I wanted the reader to feel what it was like to live in a lighthouse surrounded by nothing but ocean. The book turned out to be loads of fun and very relatable for people. I’m working on the screenplay for the book now.

I had wanted to write a sequel to The Lighthouse Keeper, as the story is very much opened ended. Then life happened. The end of a three-and-a-half-year relationship. The start of the pandemic. After a few otherworldly experiences in the first few months of 2020 I realized that, much like Neo in The Matrix, I’d taken the red pill. Life was never, ever going to be the same again. This is when I feel like I really became a writer.

For two years, I wrestled with trying to understand the nature of what I was experiencing during the pandemic, and what I saw in the incredible person who inspired me. For me, I need the title of the book. It’s the book’s first outline. Since I couldn’t write, I journaled.

I journaled more than a thousand pages. I wrote about the pandemic. I wrote about faith. I wrote about characters I wanted to bring to life in the story. Finally, in November of 2021 in a fit of frustration, I asked aloud, “What is this?” What came back to me was, Love Letters to the Virgin Mary. More than just a book about religion, it’s about the depths a man will go to in saving his soul. It also brings a surprising character into the story of Christianity…one that no one would see coming.

Now, my writing process is - write. Get everything on paper. I still journal to build out ideas. I’ll write on my MacBook as well. Some ideas last a few sentences. Others, a few pages. It’s like an artist doing sketches. The key is to get rid of the internal editor.

I’ve got a sequel in mind for The Lighthouse Keeper and have written ¾ of a sequel to Love Letters.

Tell me about your Book

Becoming One with Christ takes an honest assessment of religion. It distinguishes what it means to practice the teachings of Jesus from adherence to dogma and the ability to recite scripture. Said differently, it asks a compelling question – what does it take to believe in everlasting life? It also explores the consequences of the promise made to King David, and what that means for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

Far from being just a bout about faith, it looks at society today. AI is evolving at lightning speed, and there is very real talk in scientific circles about treating death as a disease. Couple that with ideas like the multiverse and breakthroughs in validating the Einstein-Rosen bridge (wormholes), and belief in something greater than yourself starts to feel incredible.

Most importantly, for generations the idea has persisted that God is outside of us. As soon as you understand quantum physics, you realize how silly an idea that becomes.
