BWWM Interracial Romance

Date Published: Feb 12, 2021

She’s a singer posing as a maid. He’s a surgeon forced to serve the Reich. For both of them, deception is the only way to survive the war.

Cocktail singer Victoire Duplanchier knows Nazi-occupied Paris is not safe for a black woman. But that’s exactly why she’s trying to get her family out. When she’s caught in a roundup, a man with ocean-blue eyes saves her from being sent to an unknown fate. But can she really trust him? He might seem kind and handsome, but he’s also a Nazi.

Surgeon, Emil von Konig, was duped into serving the Reich by his deceitful father. When he encounters Victoire, he knows he needs to keep her safe. He offers refuge at his estate in the Parisian countryside, but in order to stay undetected, she must pose as his maid.

Their new roles as maid and master find them in close confines. As their connection grows their passion is impossible to ignore.

While war rages on around them, Emil and Victoire believe they are safe. But danger is closer than ever. When the true nature of their relationship is discovered, everything will be at risk.

Is their love strong enough to conquer the forces that conspire against them?

Excerpt

I sit up alert in my chair wondering what could be wrong. Herr von Konig seldom summons me, but I am on my feet and in the dining room within seconds. As I enter my heart flutters when his ocean blue eyes take me into their gaze.

Yes, Herr von Konig,” I furrow my brows, “Is everything alright? Was your breakfast not warm...the coffee?” He smirks, but with soft eyes.

No Victoire, everything is–was perfect, as usual,” he says to me in a calming tone, trying to reduce the anxiety he can see written on my face. It works. My brow relaxes as I look at him trying to slow my breathing to a normal rate.

Tonight, I have yet another event to attend in the city,” I swallow trying not to show my disappointment.

I understand Monsieur,” I nod once.

I have two surgeries today and will probably not make it back at a decent time to prepare, I would like it if you would assist me and layout my formal dress for me, pressed, and metals shined. I know it is much to ask of you among the other duties you carry out, but I--”

Non, Monsieur,” I stop him, “It is my pleasure to serve you.” I don’t know why I say those words. They seemed to fly from my lips on wings, and I couldn’t catch them to bring them back and scold them for being so eager to leave me...but I see a light flicker behind his eyes, almost ablaze.

Shall I teach you pleasure?” he asks.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Each book has its own difficult area. Sometimes it’s the content matter really getting to me, and I’ll have to take breaks, because it' so emotional. Other times, it’s nailing the ending,  or in the case today, it’s getting the beginning right. I think the hardest part of writing isn’t writer’s block per say, but writer’s overload. There are so many different roads you can travel down.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
I do have beta readers. I also use multiple editors, so I get a very well rounded look at a story.

What book are you reading now?
Right now nothing. But I finished up Money Shoot by SD Hildreth last night, and it was brilliant!

How did you start your writing career?
My thirtieth birthday came into the picture, and I realized I was ready to try for my dreams. I’ve always written, and I had notebooks upon notebooks of stories saved up. But I never had the nerve to put it out there, and see what a professional thought. With the encouragement of my husband, and thoughts of my first child in mind, I took the risk.

My next release is an action packed, sexy story that features a Rock Star, a biker, and another woman. I really wanted to push myself, and represent a different type of relationship/love.

It will be one of many stories in the Rock My World Anthology releasing Dec 7th.

Blurb
Rock singer Karma Good is looking to make a comeback after a battle with cocaine addiction and a long stint in rehab. Rebuilding her once prosperous career proves to be harder than she anticipated when a late night recording session turns bloody. After witnessing the murder of her crew, she narrowly escapes with her life and runs to the first person she can find for help.
After months working on a situation for a club up north, nomad Arsen Smarts is ready for a good time. He’s on his way to the clubhouse to party when trouble throws itself into his path. The steely determination in the girl’s brown eyes earns his respect. Moved, he decides to help her. But he’ll have to win the club’s approval first.
Add the sexy blonde, Chase, to the mix and who knows what will happen

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

This is a hard question for me to answer. Every book is different. Sometimes the initial writing of the book is really difficult; certain themes challenge me as an author, making the process of writing the book exceptionally challenging—worthwhile, but difficult. Sometimes, the final proofing and editorial of the book is the most difficult, as it’s really, really difficult for me to see my own mistakes.

Even using several editors, inevitably, something gets missed, which is exceptionally stressful for me.

I’m very fortunate I enjoy most parts of the writing process, including editing! Sometimes it’s not easy, but I still like the work.

WINTER WOLF was the most difficult novel for me to write. It had themes I found challenging, subject matter that tested my personal boundaries, and characters who so often fell outside of my original thoughts for them. Of all of my books, this one took the most out of me.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I have a variety of different songs, but mostly I’ll pick something that fits my current mood and put it on repeat. In no particular order, here is a list of the artists/songs that are most likely to get played: Shut up and Dance by Walk the Moon, Most songs by The Piano Guys, Try, U & Ur Hand, and Just Give Me a Reason by Pink, and a variety of Bon Jovi tunes.

If I’m having a hard time concentrating, I stick with instrumental music. The Lord of the Rings soundtrack and the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack hold a fond place in my heart for good instrumental writing music.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes, I do! Having readers see the book before it’s published is a critical part of my writing process. Generally, I have 3-5 beta readers for a book and two editors—more editors if I can afford them. Some of my beta readers are also editors, which helps a lot. It’s been a long time since I’ve had critique partners, although I do form partnerships with other authors sometimes. I tend to work at a frenzied pace, which is often intimidating to other writers. I don’t like letting things sit too long, so I try to work with those who keep similar schedules.

What book are you reading now?

To my shame, I’m currently between books, but I’m about to start Diana Pharaoh Francis’s Diamond City books. They look right up my alley, and I loved her Path books a lot. I probably won’t get to start reading the set until December, though—I overbooked myself (again…)

How did you start your writing career?

I began my writing career as a non-fiction ghostwriter. I would write articles and textbooks for clients, charging an up-front fee for writing their material. This was my career for about ten years. I got lost along the way, since fiction writing was my first love. It took me some time to get back on track, but I did, thank goodness!!

BENEATH A BLOOD MOON is an urban fantasy set in the Witch & Wolf world although it’s a standalone. This was one of my favorite books to write, and I went far outside of my normal comfort zones when I wrote it. It releases on November 10, 2015. (Preorders are now available: http://www.amazon.com/Beneath-Blood-Moon-RJ-Blain-ebook/dp/B013T982I0/ )

Sara’s life turns upside down when someone leaves her funerary urns, black roses, and death threats on her doorstep. Fearing her work as a stripper and showgirl has put her in the sights of a demented stalker, she turns to her best friend and fellow dancer for help.

Instead of a safe haven, all Sara finds is betrayal. Hunted by creatures she once believed were stories meant to frighten children, she is given a choice: become one of them, or die.

Forced to share her skin with a voracious carnivore and driven by instincts and desires too strong to resist, Sara must adapt to the changes in her life or be destroyed by them. Finding a mate is her wolf’s top priority.

If she doesn’t want to become another prostitute in a city full of them, Sara must learn to control the beast within. With a hungry wolf to feed and an empty bank account, selling herself to the highest bidder may be the only way she has to prevent becoming a monster driven to eat anything—or anyone—unfortunate enough to cross her path.

RJ Blain suffers from a Moleskine journal obsession, a pen fixation, and a terrible tendency to pun without warning.
When she isn't playing pretend, she likes to think she's a cartographer and a sumi-e painter. In reality, she herds cats and a husband, and obeys the commands of Tsu Dhi, the great warrior fish.
In her spare time, she daydreams about being a spy. Should that fail, her contingency plan involves tying her best of enemies to spinning wheels and quoting James Bond villains until she is satisfied.

Jayla Simmons never imagined herself working in a place like Vice, but what's a girl to do when she has a child to support all on her own? Her disdain for the place isn't limited to her occupation. Her boss, Carter Rossi, has had a strange fixation on her since she started dancing at Vice, and though she's reluctant to admit it, she's drawn to him as well. Carter Rossi is tired of the cat and mouse game he's been playing with Jayla's since the day she walked into his club. The son of Don Antonio Rossi has been denied few things in life, and Jayla Simmons will be no exception. He'll have her by any means necessary.

Review

This novel is a quick read, but I felt like there was a lot packed into it. It is a start to the series and you begin to get a feel for the characters and where the story is going. Wish it would have been a bit longer and delved more into the story, I will definitely pick up the next in the series.

I grew up in a tiny town with lots of room for my imagination to grow, and never outgrew my love for playing make believe. I developed my love for storytelling when I was very young, and used it as a way to escape and explain the world around me. That storytelling ability has grown and evolved a lot since then and taken me many different places. I'm having fun following where it leads me. I've been writing since I was a child; seriously, my mom has the crayon illustrated short stories to prove it. My writing has been mostly private since the end of my UIL creative writing days circa 1998. The writing bug bit me again when I was a freshman in high school, and I finally had the guts to publish my first e-book, Purple Hearts, in July of 2013! Now, I'm hooked, and determined to make a career out of this little passion of mine. My writing style is very direct with a little bit of humor. Alpha males are my guilty pleasure, but don't expect my female main characters to be passive damsels in distress. Every girl needs a little spark to her to keep the guys on their toes, right? I write mostly interracial/paranormal romance, but I've been toying with contemporary and historical romance plots as well. In short, I'm a dreamer by nature and an artist by trade. I endeavor to take my readers on a different journey with every new story I write.
