Interview
What is the hardest part of writing
your books?
The
hardest part for me is time management. I work full time as a psychiatric
nurse. That’s three 12-hour night shifts per week. Sounds easy, right? Not so
much. It basically means I never sleep. I spend more hours per week writing,
editing, promoting, etc. than I do in the ER. It’s a constant struggle. Add to
that I am a wife and soccer Mom as well.
What songs are most played on your iPod?
That
would be a toss-up between my “sleep” playlist and one entitled “happy music.”
For sleeping, I have soft, slow music…a lot of Enya, whom I love. My happy
music is for the gym and whenever I feel like brightening my mood. That
playlist has fast, upbeat music ranging from Pharell Williams to Dwight Yoakum
to The Beach Boys. My musical taste is best described as eclectic.
Do you have critique partners or beta
readers?
Right
now, I have Beta readers. I would love to have a critique partner someday; just
haven’t found the right person. I also need a street team (whatever that is)
and a cool name for them. I’m open to ideas…
What book are you reading now?
As I
write this, I should be packing. We leave for a cruise to Bermuda at 0600. I
have NOT even started to pack. The very first book I will read on the ship is
Jill Shalvis’s newest, Lost and Found Sisters, which happened to release the
same day as Taking Chances. No, I didn’t plan that, nor am I stalking Jill.
Jill is who I want to be when I grow up. Her writing is crisp and funny yet emotional
as well. I love her.
How did you start your writing career?
I just
released my first novel, Coming Home, in March of this year. Taking Chances,
the second book in the Windsor Falls series, came out June 20th. I
originally wrote Coming Home in 2002, when we were awaiting to adopt out now 15
yo daughter from Russia. Writing was a release for me. A way to deal with the
uncertainty of foreign adoption. It was a catharsis for the pain I had endure
with infertility and pregnancy loss. Fifteen years and many, better versions
later, Coming Home finally saw the light of day!
I’m about
half way through Second Chances, the third in my series. This tells the story
of Brendan Fitzgerald and Charlie Avery. He is a single dad with trust issues,
working in his family’s construction business. She is an ER doc with a secret,
traumatic past. I can’t wait to see how they work it out!
