Grace Neunaber may have everything she’s ever dreamed of, but sometimes it’s too much. With an infinite to-do list and not enough sleep, she can’t even get out of survival mode. Her struggles dim, however, in light of the challenges of her oldest daughter.
Thanks to a supportive family and boyfriend, Faith Williams is managing single motherhood on top of college plans. But when the father of her child re-enters her life, her carefully scheduled world is rocked. She can hardly blame him for wanting to spend time with their son, but making her boyfriend jealous and claiming to be Christian is going a bit far.
Despite Faith’s best intentions to keep everyone happy, disaster after disaster strikes, and school is suddenly the least of her worries. Grace must set aside her own difficulties so she can be there for her daughter. And in order to survive the uncertainties, Faith must loosen her grip on her grudges and cling to the hope that God is the only one in her life who hasn’t changed.
Interview
What is the hardest part of writing
your books?
Waiting for my characters to tell me their story! I’ve found that if I try to force a storyline it usually doesn’t work, and it seems like the more I try to come up with a great plot twist, the worse my ideas are. Inspiration often strikes at the least likely moment, when I’m not even thinking about my books or characters. But that’s also really irritating, because I don’t like to waste time *not* writing in the meantime. Dry spells are so frustrating!

What songs are most played on your
Ipod?
For someone who was a
music major, the answer to this question is incredibly ironic. I don’t even
have a iPod, nor do I tend to listen to music very often! I have five kids, so
our house is pretty noisy as it is. When I have a moment of quiet time, I
choose to keep it quiet rather than listen to music, and while some authors
like music playing in the background as they write, I concentrate better
without it.
Do you have critique partners or beta
readers?
I do, but it’s a fairly
small circle. I find too many opinions can be overwhelming, and trying to incorporate
everyone’s suggestions can be more hassle than it’s worth sometimes! My brother
is actually my best and most trusted beta reader, and he’s given me some
excellent suggestions that have completely made my books come alive. Besides
him, I have a few good friends who are gracious enough to read and give their
honest opinions on my manuscripts, pointing out things that need to be
clarified or changed. And my editor is an absolute gem. I’ve learned so much
from her, and she’s become almost a personal writing coach for me!
What book are you reading now?
I just finished “The 7 ½
Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle” by Stuart Turton, which was a great read. I’m
about to start “Loving Isaac” by Christian author Heather Kaufman.
How did you start your writing career?
I didn’t start writing
until seven years ago. I was a music major in college and had no plans to
become an author. But when my oldest son was the student of the week, I had to
write something the teacher could read out loud to the class. Rather than doing
a letter or a cute story about him, I decided to do an A to Z poem about him. I
enjoyed writing it so much that I decided to write a Lutheran A to Z poem as
well, which eventually became the children’s book “Our Faith from A to Z.” After
that I submitted a few other ideas for nonfiction books, but they were turned down,
so I started contemplating fiction instead. Once I started writing fiction, I
couldn’t stop!
“Stand Alone” is coming
out September 23, and as the fourth book of the Sola Series, it continues the
story of the Neunaber family. Specifically, book 4 focuses on Jackson, who
faces a football injury right away in the first chapter, which throws off his
plans for a college scholarship. I personally love Jackson’s character, and
this book was a lot of fun to write.
About the Author
Ruth Meyer graduated from Concordia University in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a degree in church music and no plans whatsoever to become an author. But a student of the week project for her son inspired "Our Faith From A to Z," a children's picture book. After that, it was only a matter of time before she tried her hand at fiction. As both the daughter of and the wife of a pastor, Ruth has moved around a lot and had many experiences that provide ideas for her writing. Currently, she resides in rural Texas with her husband, their five children, two dogs, and a cat. It is her hope that through her writing, readers are assured of God's grace through His Son, Jesus
