Strong-willed Elaine Hart is determined to save Hartland Orchards, her family’s’ California orange groves from being taken over by the bank. After the recent ending of a turbulent relationship, she vows to keep her professional and personal life separate, even though she’s attracted to David Cole, the one man who holds her family’s fate in the palm of his hands.
Serious-minded banker, David Cole, recovering from recent love and work fiascos has one goal and that’s ensuring that the delinquent Hartland Ranch account is brought up to date and not becoming personally involved with the unpredictable and beautiful Elaine Cole.
When a series of circumstances brings Elaine and David together, they must decide if they will continue to suppress their emotions or succumb to passion and take a chance on a forever love.
What is the hardest part of writing your books? The hardest part is not being distracted and staying focused, especially now that we are still dealing with COVID-19 and I can’t go to my favorite cafe or the library to get some uninterrupted writing time.
What songs are most played on your Ipod? When I’m writing, I listen to nature sounds like rain and thunder. When I’m driving, I listen to any of Erika Badu’s songs, because they all tell a story and I’m addicted to stories.
Do you have critique partners or beta readers? Yes, I have beta readers and their feedback is crucial in letting me know if I’m on-track in terms of telling a compelling story. They let me know if they are confused about any story elements or if the beginning engages them right away. I have a writer who critiques my work and her feedback is extremely helpful.
What book are you reading now? I just finished reading two books. Get A Life Chloe Brown by Talia Herbet and Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo. Both books were good reads that I thoroughly enjoyed. They dealt with issues relating to chronic illness, race, or culture, but ultimately they are both moving love stories.
How did you start your writing career?
I’ve been writing since I was in grade school and although my first job out of college was at a publishing company, I was away from anything creative writing-related for many years. Four years ago, I decided to get serious about writing again. I attended workshops, participated in National Novel Writing Month, read craft books, and spent a lot of time writing. I got all the free feedback I could from entering different contests. I didn’t win, but I learned a lot and eventually got a multi-book contract with my publisher, The Wild Rose Press. Dreams do come true.

My next book is Anything But Love (California Heart Book 2). This is Morgan’s story, who is a party girl at heart. She avoids emotional entanglements like they are the plague. While on vacation, she meets a handsome doctor, who is also a commitment-phobic. Strong chemistry brings them together, but will fear of a broken heart keep them apart?
I’ve always enjoyed reading and writing and grew up surrounded by a wide variety of books, from westerns to romance novels. I love stories—watching them, listening to them, reading them, and writing them. My contemporary novels include complex and diverse characters that grapple with family legacy, love, loss, and laughter as they face the challenges of life. When I’m not working on my next manuscript, you can find me bike riding along the beach with my husband or exploring the mysteries of the universe with my daughter.
