Contemporary Romance (BDSM, kink)
Date Published: 06-21-2023
Heather’s soul soars when she’s hang-gliding, skydiving, kayaking, or piloting a helicopter during search and rescue missions. She’s taken the term adrenaline junkie to a whole new level. However, she’s never enjoyed sex and never had an orgasm.
Instead of giving up on her, Kyle, a long-time friend who convinces her to be more, brings an experienced Dom in to help. Marcus explains she only enjoys extreme sports, so she needs to try extreme sex since the normal kind hasn’t worked. Marcus is all Dom, and helps Kyle bring Heather alive sexually.
Just when Heather thinks she has everything figured out, she learns the details of how it worked when the two men shared a girlfriend for years while they were in college.
What is the hardest part of writing
your books?
Every book is different. Sometimes,
getting the first draft written is the hardest part, and then revisions and
edits are the next hardest. Other times, the first draft flows from my
fingertips, but then revisions and edits to make it publishable are a
nightmare. For the Safeword: Mayday duet in particular, writing the final third
of the second book was the hardest — it took me years to manage just the right
ending for this foursome.
What songs are most played on your
Ipod?
Mostly, I stream the music I listen
to. I’m partial to the 80s station on Vevo when I’m not writing, or sometimes
an 80s compilation on YouTube if the Vevo channel is playing offbeat 80s music,
which they are prone to do on weekend nights, but I mostly listen to classical
music while writing. Songs with words sometimes interfere with my train of
thought.
Do you have critique partners or beta
readers?
I have alpha and beta readers, and I
don’t know what I’d do without them. Some help me with plot and character
development, others help me with continuity issues, and others help with grammar
issues and typos. My brain doesn’t care about homophones during the first draft
— so long as it sounds right, my fingers type the word — and I love that they catch
those snafus for me. The cleaner it is when it goes to the editor, the more of
a chance she’ll catch what’s left to fix.
What book are you reading now?
Next up will be Resonance Surge
by Nalini Singh, but not until I finish the rough draft of my current WIP.
How did you start your writing career?
Sometime around 2005, I was frustrated
with the available BDSM romance offerings. Some writers were awesome, but
others had clearly never felt the kiss of a whip, or negotiated limits, or had
any experience at all in the lifestyle. I thought I could do better, and I signed
up for NANOWRIMO and actually managed to finish a book. That first attempt was
terrible, but a half-dozen manuscripts later, I had something I thought
publishable. I sent it to a few publishers, and the one I most liked offered me
a contract.
Tell us about your next release.
Now that both Safeword: Mayday
books are out, I can focus on KHAN and WRENCH, the next two books
in the Birmingham Chapter of the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Club. Both are
werewolves, and both are going to fall in love with a human, which complicates
things. Khan ends up with Wrench’s sister, so these two books are closely
intertwined. KHAN releases 8/24 and Wrench releases 9/7. Wrench’s
story will also have a companion adult coloring book.
Thanks so much for having me on the
blog today!
