He was told to renounce his belief in God or face certain death. He chose
God. In this powerful story we follow the lives of two Ukrainian
natives-Peter and Irina Tkachuk, who went against the cultural norm of their
country and chose to follow God. Through uncertainty and an authoritative
rule, they chose radical obedience. The Tkachuks took the charge to share
the Kingdom with those around them from school age children to wounded
soldiers. The Ark of Ukraine is more than a missionary’s memoir. The
moving testimonials and resilient faith exhibited by the people in these
pages is captivating and moving. The work they did and the lives they
touched are nothing short of a miracle. This book will ignite your faith and
inspire you to do your part in sharing the light and life of the Kingdom.

INTERVIEW
Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?
I came up with the idea to write The Ark of Ukraine after attending a board meeting of the Noah’s Ark Ukraine Mission where one of the newer board members kept asking questions about the mission. I was annoyed by her questions, but later, as I thought about it, I realized that the story needed to be told and I was the only person who would do it. I started recording my thoughts on my phone immediately as I took a walk after that meeting. Ideas started flowing and I felt that I could really do this.
What surprised you most about getting your book published?
Well, getting it published was a surprise really. It seemed rather surreal. I never thought I’d publish. I was working of the book for over a year, and to have it done felt amazing, to have it published was sobering as well. I wondered how this was going to change my life and what impact the book would have. So I have an expectation that is exciting, and I’m curious about what God is going to do with this book.
Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing
Actually I don’t write every day, except in my journal. I do life. Take my grandchildren to school, garden, work on projects. I like to quilt, draw and paint, hike, spend time with friends, etc. There are some church related things I do as well that take my time.
As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?
I was struck by the positive reviews and the comments that my writing was well done. I had no idea that my writing was any good. I had no grid for my own abilities. So I guess that is pivotal, to realize that I have a good writing ability. That others enjoy what I write. I had no idea of this. To own the statement, “I am a scribe.”
Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?
I get my ideas from meditating on the Bible, seeing how people are navigating life and thinking about what is going on in my world.
What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
I haven’t been exposed to critics just yet, I hope I’m prepared.
What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?
Writing The Ark of Ukraine. Seeing it through to the end!
(Also, I wrote and illustrated a children’s book for my granddaughter, I thought that was a lot of fun.)
How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
One children’s book for my other granddaughter.
It has been prophesied that I would write a book from my journal entries, so I’ll get started on that I think by writing a blog. Its in the thinking on it stage.
