What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Knowing what to keep and what to delete. With each book, I’m gaining discernment in this direction.

What are your most-played songs?

I don’t always play music while writing, but when I do, the bands I usually reach for are: The Who, Led Zeppelin, Brooks & Dunn, Pink Floyd, and Garth Brooks.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Absolutely. I have a small group of beta readers, and I’m actively recruiting more (hint-hint).

What book are you reading now?

I just finished Watchers by Dean Koontz and This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti. At the top of my stack are two non-fiction books that I’m reading as background for my next novel.

How did you start your writing career?

In 2016, I felt the urge to help others identify and overcome a self-limiting and deceptive perception that we “aren’t good enough.” With the help of my wife, I had realized the source of this lie and how I had allowed it to control me.

I didn’t want to write a boring nonfiction book that no one would read because I didn’t have the requisite professional credentials. I decided a fictional story was down my alley.

One day a title flared up inside my head, The Hidden Saboteur. Shortly thereafter, I saw images of a lighthouse.

That was it. I started writing.

The Hidden Saboteur went on to win three literary awards for Christian fiction. And a strange thing happened. Ideas for other books started flooding my head. I hadn’t started out to write a series. Thought I’d be one and done. God had a different plan.

I write what and when the Holy Spirit tells me.

Tell us about your next release.

Book 6 in The Lighthouse series is in the early ideation stage. I can say the story will continue where Spotlight ended. As with all my books, the theme will address the spiritual battle for our hearts and the societal/political issues that can separate us from one another and from God.
