TRANSFORM YOUR LIFE WITH THE WAY YOU SPEAK
As human beings, we have a deep need for social connection, yet our primitive fight-or-flight response can be a major barrier to achieving it, leading to misunderstanding, conflict and disconnection.
Fortunately, there is a solution.
The Human Language delivers a compelling message. By replacing our habitual, learned patterns of communication we can experience greater understanding, empathy and connection in our relationships, transforming our lives.
Through easy-to-follow chapters, this book introduces The MECAnism, to calm your instinctive reactions, gain emotional clarity and develop psychological safety. It gives you the practical tools and techniques to listen, speak and act in your daily life with compassion, for yourself and others, enabling you to meet your needs with confidence.
Pam Bryant, Oxford, UK
"Penny uses just enough science to help the reader understand why they behave the way they do while focusing on simple techniques to get to the heart of change.
The Human Language should be required reading for anybody who has to work or live with other people, which is most of us."
Diana D'Ascoli, Philadelphia, US
Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this
book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?
Because of
the life transformation I underwent in learning these communication techniques,
I wanted to bring it to as many people as possible. I have for a long time
wondered why we’re not all speaking like this, why we aren’t taught it in
school. So, I wanted to spread the news of
this language in a way that people could relate to it everyday. I started by researching what feelings are,
what thoughts are, how the brain works to understand the reasons for why we
speak like we do. The more I searched, the more interesting it got – and I
already had the solution.
What surprised you most about getting your book published?
The number of people who wanted to buy it! I thought it
might be hard to sell a book, but people were so willing! And what also
surprises me is when people come up to me with their copy of the book to ask me
to sign it. It’s a really unusual, at the same time lovely to think it means so
much to people!
Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing
I work as a human connection consultant – training people
in The MECAnism and mediating when relationships at work have broken down. I also help teams build psychological safety.
If you mean outside of work, I love to fly planes and do outdoor bootcamp
regularly.
As a published author, what would you say was the most
pivotal point of your writing life?
I have to say it was just before I started writing. For the first 3 years of thinking about writing
the book, I told myself ‘who am I to write a book!’. It was when I spent a day
with a life coach and we worked on my core beliefs that I finally decided ‘I’m
worth of writing a book!’. Interesting
as core beliefs play a big part in what I teach.
Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that
is?
Funnily enough, when I step in the shower! Ideas seem to flood to me. I think it is
because my mind is rested and not getting in the way of my intuition. I recreate this at my desk by clearing the
space around me, putting on inspiring music and a scented candle.
What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
That I write too much.
I tend to write as I think – on one hand that’s great, as many people
have told me they can hear my voice as they are reading my words – and on the
other it can be too much for those who like brevity. So I have been learning to
say things in fewer words!
What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?
Gaining Top New Release for Business Consulting on Amazon
in the US!
How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?
I have the other half of The Human Language to finish
off. I produced double the amount of
content I needed and was advised to split it in half – so I am about to start
editing the other half now. I also have
ideas for a few others in the series, but they will come later!
