Message for our readers

Everyone needs support when they are grieving, even moms and dads. Kids can help their parents as much as their parents can help them. The key is talking about your loved one and keeping their memory alive. We didn’t do that with my mom after she passed. I have learned how important that is with the passing of my husband and father and I work hard to weave their memory into our daily lives. It helps my kids remember them and it helps me too.

Story (that you want to highlight)

It’s a short story about a Mom and her two kids. Mom is sad because she misses Grandma. The kids want to understand more about Grandma. Over the course of the day, they ask great questions, only to realize the things they like to do remind them of Grandma. Through the illustrations we see that Grandma Spoon is with them the entire day. By the end of the story they feel Grandma’s presence and the Mom has replaced her sadness with joy and hope.

About the Author

Throughout her life, J. Corn has dealt with grief: first losing her mom at a young age, then her husband leaving her a single mother of two, and most recently her father. The grieving process has taught her the importance of talking about your loved one after they're gone. No one should suffer alone or in silence. Corn hopes that SPOONS will encourage families to share stories about their loved ones, even when it's dificult. She and her children are active members of their community grief counseling center. SPOONS is Corn's debut book.
