Do you consider where you've been, and where you want to go? And who do you call on for guidance? After learning he was adopted out of the blue, Mike Thorne struggled to find his place in the world, plagued by perfectionism and fears of abandonment that followed him into adulthood.
But he identified a path for himself through sports, along with two key concepts that helped him transform a better way forward: that we need to Build, Belong, and Believe to make progress effectively, and that we must have others on our journey. People we can rely on to hold us accountable and for support-a Personal Trust Community. With his story, Mike teaches readers of all ages how to learn from his experiences and reach their North Star by employing the tools he built along the way. He's proof that by hustling with heart on the field and beyond, we can transform and thrive at home and work.
Interview
Tell us about your book? Do you consider where you’ve been, and where
you want to go? And who do you call on
for guidance? I am sharing my story and hope it resonates with you
What is the PRIMARY benefit, above all others,
that your potential reader will gain from reading this book? (Be very specific.
Please do not answer with 'good read' or 'page turner' or some other worn-out,
overused phrase. Be concise and avoid generalization.). If you want to live the life you were
intended to and not be held back by a lived experience this book is for
you.
If you had to compare this book to any other
book out there, which book would it be?
(Remember: The audience does not yet know you.
It is very important that you reference something they might be familiar with
to effectively and powerfully communicate what your work is about. You are NOT
saying you are 'better than' or 'just like' this comparative, but are somewhat
the same in a very general sense, to give the listener a point of
reference.). I love fables with stories
that move you and allow you to experience the life of the person in the story. Books written by Mitch Album where you learn
lessons just reading the story. This
book is an actual person, me, who shares the power of belonging, building, and
believing in your ultimate success.
Hundreds of thousands of books come out every
year. Why should someone buy THIS book? (What is it that sets THIS book apart
from ALL those other books in the same genre or category? What will the buyer
get from you and ONLY you that simply cannot be found elsewhere?). A perspective from someone who was put up for
adoption at birth feeling abandoned, rising to a CEO, being fired, and then
building my life over again and sharing it with others.
Who is your target audience? (Be very specific.
Gender? Age range? Geographic area? Primary interests? What benefits does the
reader hope to gain from buying a book like this book?). 35-54 year old, with
kids or at least a partner/spouse, wants to live a more purposeful life, has
had some challenges along the way and needs help getting unstuck.
Did your environment or upbringing play a major
role in your writing and did you use it to your advantage? Being told at 9 that I was adopted shattered
my sense of belonging and sports became my outlet. I have lived in 9 states, moved 25 times,
married for 32+ years and have 3 grown daughters. Worked in multiple industries and have seen
1000’s of people not bringing their full self to life. I believe when you know your story and share
it with the world people show up in your life.
Tell us your most rewarding experience since
publishing your work? People coming up
to me and sharing that my story has inspired them to chase their dreams.
How would you describe your writing style? Conversational
Are your characters pure fiction, or did you
draw from people you know? All real
people
Are you more of a character artist or a
plot-driven writer?
What do you hope to accomplish with your book
other than selling it? Help people live a more fulfilling life and be a better
friend, business leader, husband/wife, and community leader.
