Historical Fiction

On the eve of what will be known as The Battle of the Bulge, the survivors of Sinner's Cross are scattered all over Europe. Halleck, the tough Texan who drives men like cattle, finds himself surrounded in the snow-blanketed forests of the Eifel Mountains riding herd on greenhorn soldiers; Breese, the phony hero with a chip on his shoulder the size of Rushmore, embarks on a bloody mission of redemption behind enemy lines; Cramm, the one-eyed, one-armed German staff officer, tries to balance duty against his lust for vengeance against those who crippled him. Three men separated by war will once again converge... in The Very Dead of Winter.

What is
the hardest part of writing your books?
I think
there's a point in every writer's journey where they lose control of the story
– where the story just seems to run away with itself. Curbing that tendency is
very difficult for me and takes discipline. I'm a go-with-the-flow kind of guy.
What
songs are most played on your Ipod?
I get
made fun of for even owning an iPod at this point, but I don't care, and
according to the device, it's a tie between “Whatever I Fear” by Toad the Wet
Sprocket and “Dancing Barefoot” by Patti Smith Group.
Do you
have critique partners or beta readers?
I have an
editor I met in grad school named Mike Dell who I have come to trust a great
deal. He can spot a plot issue faster than a lion can spot a limp.
What book
are you reading now?
Chinese
Diaries by Robert Payne
How did
you start your writing career?
I
published my first short story at the age of seventeen, but I aspired to
writerhood when I was still in the single digits. Both my parents were
journalists, I grew up in a house full of books, and writing is in my blood. I
never had a chance, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Tell us about your next
release.
I just
released The Very Dead of Winter: A Sinner's Cross Novel, which is the
second book in the series. It picks up where the previous novel left off. I
guarantee that fans of the first book will not be disappointed.
