Interview
Introduce yourself and tell me about what you do.
I am B.K. Boshell, I research and sponge off my parents because $14 is still the minimum in Florida. I am currently a sophomore in high school, play varsity basketball, and enjoy spending time in nature. Writing is a passion of mine.
Tell me more about your journey as an author, including the writing processes.
My journey began at the age of nine with a summer experiment into writing that evolved into a passion, which I pursued increasingly as the years progressed. My writing process revolves around noise cancelling headphones, owl hours, a lot of paper, and a ballpoint pen. I draw my inspiration from the myriad places of research I have found myself in over the years. Creating characters and giving them life is incredibly fulfilling as you channel personal experience, the experience of others, and stories of old into forming something that you hope is compelling.
Any message for our readers
Truthfully, I want people to enjoy the book for what it is, but also learn of the arcane and intriguing world that is Madagascar. Whether it be the elephant birds that weighed up to one ton, or the merciless feline-esque fossae, I want people to be thrilled about the bizarre and intriguing facts the island has to offer.
Tell me about your Book
Get a real job, cuz this one ain’t paying the bills. I wanted to capture the genuine interplay between boys and their adolescent humor. There is a strong theme of brotherhood, which I believe is one of the strongest human connections. It is the type of relationship where someone can say “Let’s hop the fence and check out this abandoned building,” and the resounding answer is often, “Yes.” If young boys are to get in trouble or adventure, as they should dare to do with ample doses of reasoning, then they should be getting into trouble and exploring together. As a 9 year old nature was the most intriguing thing to me, and of course my interests have broadened since then, but this book is the merging of a young boy’s fantasy and his teenage, self-proclaimed wisdom.
A group of young, impressionable lemurs and sifakas witness their family being taken hostage by malicious fossa gang members. Slick and Isaiah, two best friends who were spared from the tragedy, lead the conspiracy (group of lemurs/sifakas) on a perilous journey to rescue their family. This action-packed adventure is filled with camaraderie, heartbreak, humor, and a fight for survival as the boys take on their family’s captors. Amidst the imposing threats they face, the boys find strength in one another and unwavering determination to save their family.
