(Final book in the Purgatory Reign Series which include: Purgatory Reign, Fierce Tides and Colliding Souls)

Review

This is a novel that starts off strong and doesn't let up until the very end. It is such a great addition to the already completely engrossing series.

If you are looking for a novel that is non-stop action and moving, you will definitely love this. There was never any down time when reading this and it made it really hard to take breaks while reading.

Imagery was very masterfully used to make sure the reader felt like they were a part of the novel.

King Mewkus summons the Knights of Boo’Gar to track down the kidnappers, but the Knights have been on furlough for so long that only one person responds to the call: a 13-year-old boy named Rowland. Undaunted by the lack of reinforcements, Rowland agrees to take on the quest, enlisting the help of his pet turtle and his trusty steed, who happens to be an ostrich. While Rowland treks through the Dark Woods, encountering dangerous obstacles and fearsome creatures, Princess Phlema takes matters into her own hands.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

-Writing uninterrupted. With three kids it tends to be chaotic at times, and even worse when our house becomes the mecca center for their friends. Oh, what fun (insert sarcasm). Then again, it is nice to know they like hanging at our home.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

-When at home, I play music mixes through my computer as ambiance while I write. It is a very nice set up for producing music, so the sound quality is great. The songs played are dependent on what I am writing about. For example, epic, cinematic, LOTR, medieval type stuff for historical-fiction/fantasy, civil war era music for civil war books.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

-I have used a few people in the past, folks I’ve graduated with, but not in the last several books.

What book are you reading now?

-Daughter of Prophecy by Miles Owens

How did you start your writing career?

-It began with writing and drawing my first book in elementary school, perhaps ten pages. In middle school I worked on my ‘biggest’ project at that time and got up to fifty-seven pages. My writing truly commenced in 2003 when my secretary walked into my office with a serious look on her face, stopped in front of my desk, and looked right at me. I thought I did something wrong. She said, “God told me to tell you there are untapped talents within you. Use them.” Literally, a fire stirred in my belly. Three days later I started writing and I haven’t stopped since.

Tell us about your next release.

-My next release is titled Rebellion, book 2 in the Obsidian Cross Series due out in November 2017, and I just finished writing book 3 of the trilogy, Justice.

Virtual Book Tour: Beyond ADHD by @IAmJeffEmmerson #review #giveaway

Non-fiction - Mental Health
Date Published: August 16, 2017
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

Beyond ADHD weaves Emmerson’s personal story of his ADHD diagnosis, exploring along the way the latest medical, scientific and societal explanations and tools for managing and living with the condition. Including interviews with a number of experts at the forefront of next-generation ADHD diagnostics and treatment, he questions the cookie-cutter way ADHD is commonly diagnosed and treated. Suggesting that the list of symptoms often used to identify ADHD can be attributed to many other disorders and conditions, he explores how and why ADHD diagnoses have increased by 50% in the last ten years.

Emmerson advocates a different approach to ADHD, arguing that it should be a diagnosis of exclusion rather than the other way around, and that we must look past the label, recognizing that individual symptoms vary and treatment plans should be better tailored to the individual. He examines mental and behavioral issues from all sides, including the possibility that nurturing – rather than trying to alter or suppress – the active, “360-degree” mind is a viable way for those diagnosed with ADHD to realize their gifts and lead purposeful lives.

About the Authors

AUTHOR BIO: Jeff Emmerson

From the depths of mental despair to one of social media’s premier spokespeople for mental health issues, Jeff Emmerson is a veritable “Rocky” in the field. Jeff has written for and been interviewed by some of the world’s top online magazines regarding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), including Everyday Health (featured on AOL Health) and Additudemag. He also enjoys one of the world’s largest social media followings for a non-medical professional on the subject, with more than half a million Twitter followers and a video blog (YouTube Channel) that includes more than 200 different postings on various aspects of ADHD. Many of the top medical experts in the field, as well as specialists in behavioral therapy, vision therapy and neuroscience, regularly post and correspond with him as part of their collective goal: finding a path beyond today’s ADHD “epidemic”. Some share their perspectives in Beyond ADHD.

Born and raised in Ontario, Canada, Emmerson began speaking publicly to raise awareness of ADHD and mental health issues in 2011, following a suicide attempt and resulting ADHD diagnosis. (Three years earlier, he had lost his brother Ryan to suicide). In 2013, after another bout of suicidal ideation, he focused more greatly on his higher purpose, took to social media channels and began blogging to reach an even larger audience. He also took out an old manuscript he had written about his life, which further developed into Beyond ADHD.

Emmerson is a passionate advocate for mental health, and fostering a deeper understanding beyond the accepted symptoms that have led to more than 30 million North Americans taking ADHD medication. He seeks to come up with solutions that return society to a place of compassion, humanity, community and empathy. This perspective forms the structure of Beyond ADHD.
Emmerson will be embarking on a public speaking and signing tour in Fall 2017 to draw greater awareness to the diagnostic and societal issues of ADHD, to create greater public discourse in North America and worldwide, and to roll out the many forward-thinking solutions that he and many of the world’s foremost experts on behavioral, mental health and neurological issues and conditions have been discussing and beginning to utilize.

Jeff and his wife, Aimee, Founder & CEO of a globally recognized digital marketing firm, make their home in Ontario, Canada. He was a star youth hockey player in Canada for many years, and later, worked as a security guard and in various positions.
His website can be found at www.JeffEmmerson.com.

Review

This is a subject that really interests me because of how often you hear the word and diagnosis.

Going into this one, I wasn't 100% sure this novel was going to apply to me in its entirety. While that was the case, there was definitely plenty I fell like I got from reading this novel.

I could still appreciate the Author's collective authority and knowledge of the subject. It was very interesting to read about and I think things from this novel could help people dealing with certain struggles in their life.

Review

I'm a huge sci-fi fan and this novel really strikes a solid note in the genre.

The plot is full of exciting twists along the way and quite easy to follow.

The world that Christopher Cobb has created is vivid and fun to become absorbed in.

I really enjoyed the way that it unfolded. It didn't feel forced and that can be said for the flow and pacing of the story as well. Cobb is a very talented writer.

About the Author

Born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida, Christopher Cobb ventured off to the wilds of New York City for several years to experience the world of acting. Finding it a cruel and inhospitable world, he hid high in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia for a time. Having grown weary of snow and perilous black ice, his life path took him back home to south Florida where he earned college degrees at Florida Atlantic University. He now lives in Jupiter—the city, not the planet—with his true love and talented artist, Alicia, their two weird cats, Simon and Weezy, and his amazingly wonderful daughter, Emma. He is a member of the Bloody Pens Writers Group, as well as the Florida Writer’s Association and intends on writing more exciting books for publication. Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

I find writing really enjoyable, but the editing process can be far less rewarding. It’s something that has to be done. Readers demand a quality product.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I have an eclectic taste in music from the Rolling Stones to Harry Styles. I always listen to music when I’m writing.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

My wife is always the first person to read my books and provides honest feedback. I then rely on my literary agent to point out what needs to change. He was editor of the year in the UK, and so I’m very fortunate.

What book are you reading now?

I’m re-reading Castaway by Lucy Irvine. Recommended.

How did you start your writing career?

I wrote articles for newspapers and magazines during my career in child protection, but White is the Coldest Colour was my first novel. I’d had to leave work due to health issues, and so I had a lot of time on my hands. That led to a new career as an author.

Tell us about your next release.

I’ve just finished my sixth book, another darkly psychological thriller which draws on my experiences as a police officer and child protection social worker. My fifth book, A Mind to Kill, was published on the 5 August this year.

About the Author

John Nicholl, an ex police officer, child protection social worker and lecturer, has written three dark psychological suspense thrillers, each of which have been Amazon international bestsellers, reaching # 1 in multiple categories in the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Australia, Canada and the USA. Rights enquiries should be directed to Mr Toby Mundy - Literary agent at TMA. A Mind To Kill was published on 5 August 2017.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
For me, the toughest part is deciding which parts to keep and what to toss/trim. Sometimes scenes that I think are important end up being discarded because the story evolved in a different direction, or certain portions get scrapped because they seemed to work in outlining/planning, but didn’t work when written out. I also don’t always write in a sequential fashion, so it can get tricky connecting parts and maintaining an appropriate pace. But it’s all part of the fun!

What songs are most played on your Ipod?
It changes often, but currently, there’s a lot of Bear’s Den, Starset, The Lumineers, Stars, Ruth B, Birdy, Cherry Ghost, Fitz and the Tantrums, and a few movie/video game soundtracks, like Final Fantasy and Game of Thrones.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
I don’t have anyone official, but I’d love to find some. I’ve gotten feedback on previous works through workshopping and using friends as a soundboard for ideas, but I’d like to reach out to other authors/readers in the same genre to expand my network a bit.

What book are you reading now?
I’m currently reading The Daughter of the Night by Laekan Zea Kemp, and next on the shelf is The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.

How did you start your writing career?
I’ve always loved writing; I dabbled in fanfiction during my teenage years, then expanded to original content in college. While browsing the internet a couple of years ago, I stumbled across a contest held by Dragon Tree Books that featured a publishing package, so I entered an early draft of I’m With You and ended up winning. I hope to only grow from here!

Tell us about your next release.
I’m experimenting with a possible companion novel to I’m With You, featuring stories told through the POV of the supporting and minor characters. Other than that, I’ve got a YA fantasy series in the works, and many more stories I want to tell!
