Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Finding uninterrupted time in our house is a challenge. During the school year, I write while my girls are at school. But during the summer, while I type away at our dining room table, my girls frequently ask me questions and want me to take them places. I love being with them, and realize how precious my time with them is, so my writing pace is much slower in the summer.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?
I love to use my iHeartRADIO app. When I first started using the app, one of my daughters was fixated on Taylor Swift. Now, according to iHeartRADIO, I am a country music fan. I’ve become a fan of Florida Georgia Line, and I haven’t heard an Ed Sheeran song that I didn’t love.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
I am fortunate to have two beta readers. Thank you to Carol and Beth for their honest opinions and insights.

What book are you reading now?
I LOVE my Kindle app on my phone. If my eyes aren’t glued to the tiny screen, then I have my ear buds in and I’m listening to a book. I’m currently listening to Tangled Up by Erin Nicholas.

How did you start your writing career?
I’ve always thought it would be cool to write a book. In college, (while studying elementary education) in my literacy courses, I’d peruse the picture books and nonfiction children’s books and dream about writing my own book. At the time, it seemed impossible, but as the internet expanded and companies like Amazon grew, the dream started to take shape and become a reality. When my twin daughters went to kindergarten, I set aside time each day to write. Surprisingly, the story that unfolded in my head was not for elementary students, but it was better suited for young adults who enjoy supernatural thrillers. When I finished the first series, The Scintillate Series, I transitioned to adult romantic suspense and began The Savage Security Series, which now has four books, and the fifth is on its way.

I am working on the rough draft for the fifth book in the Savage Security Series. Grace’s Kiss focuses on Ryan Mark’s relationship with Grace Berry. Ryan is everything Grace has avoided in her dating life. He’s wild, cocky, and has an air of danger that takes her breath away. But as much as she’s attracted to him, she’s also intimidated by the sexy confidence that oozes from him. After a bumpy start, she realizes that she has more in common with the buff alpha than she ever expected.

About the Author

Story time always captivated Karen.  As a child, she fell in love with books that transported her to different worlds and introduced her to new creatures. As a teacher, she encouraged her students to explore different times and new worlds through literature.  Now, when Karen isn’t living in reality with her husband and daughters, she can be found creating an alternate reality filled with creatures and worlds that she hopes will delight and raise goose bumps on her readers.

A Southern romance about family, forgiveness, starting over, and love.

Koda Jacobs urgently needs a nanny--right now. Fresh from prison, Dalton Clayton needs a job--and just about anything will do.

Divine Intervention steps in and tosses Koda and Dalton together. Koda struggles with the conflicts of her impulsive decision to leave her babies with an unknown, convicted felon. That just can't be wise, can it? But she can't help but see how quickly the children bonded to him and trust him. Or the reassuring sense that this is just right. Meanwhile, Dalton stumbles through the spills and thrills of two young children, and his growing interest in their mother. A chance meeting brings him back to his estranged family as well.

Over time mutual attraction forms between  Koda and Dalton as the bond between Dalton and the children deepens. A sweet, southern romance full of forgiveness, second chances, and fun kids.

Review

A beautiful journey that shows that everyone has their issues and that it isn't impossible to come back from things. I appreciate the author tackling the difficult issues and bringing them full circle with the characters. I enjoyed the writing and the pacing of the novel as a whole. These characters each have their own personalities and depth to them. None of them felt one-dimensional or forced, they all shined through as individuals.

Fifteen years ago, Kitty Holbrooke was set to be the greatest child star since Shirley Temple. Days after completing her debut film, the young girl was kidnapped from her home in the middle of the night. The next day, a rambling ransom note appeared in the family's mailbox, but as the family scrambled to gather the money, police discovered Kitty's body. Due to the media circus surrounding the case, changing testimony from key witnesses, and police missteps, lead detective Andrea Bennett was never able to bring Kitty's killer to justice, and the case that rocked a nation went cold. Today, an online tabloid has uncovered Kitty Holbrooke's shocking case files including never-before-seen police interviews, confidential emails, secret text messages, and sealed grand jury transcripts. The Internet explodes as fans devour and comment on each piece of new evidence, desperately hoping that they, too, can help solve the mystery. Loosely inspired by the JonBenet Ramsey case, this unique, thrilling mystery is told through police transcripts and documents, and will keep readers guessing until the very end.

Review

A fantastic Mystery. I loved the fact that the author was able to transport her reader to the exact setting with the characters. DE Haggerty did a great job of keeping true to the setting and theme.
Her characters are well developed and read like real people.
A Smooth moving plot with a mystery that kept me flipping pages to the very end.

After checking into a few leads of her own, Kadin inadvertently ends up in the confidence of Duke Baurus. When she tries to share what she knows with the rest of the team, she finds them unwilling to listen to the opinion of a girl who they know is only after a ring on her finger. Review

Definitely a lot of action going on that will have readers flipping pages furiously.

Book Review

Horror/Fantasy, emphasis on the Horror. Chandler does not shy away from creating scenes that are a bit dark.

This novel has a lot of surprises and really lives up to the horror genre. There will be times where you are shocked and "jump", yes jump from reading.

A very well written novel with a great plot and wonderful characters.

Review

Dive into a world that I can guarantee is not a cookie cutter version of the genre.

I enjoyed Kane and Moon Blood as main characters.

I personally liked the fact that this novel is not predictable. You get a lot of clues throughout the novel about where the story is going, what secrets are being hidden, etc. But it really does take you a good part of the novel to put everything together. Kudos to Carol McKibben for managing to keep the mystery alive in her novel.

The Best Seller:
Book One Of Two

When Maya Smock writes her first novel, everything seems to go her way. Her book practically writes itself. She marries her gorgeous agent. Her name is on all of the best seller lists. Billionaire author Jay McCallister takes an interest in her meteoric rise to fame and invites her into his world of alien-believing celebrities. Her life changes forever when he tells her that they were both created inside of a laboratory. These authors are embedding an alien genetic code within the pages of their novels that originated from Nazi Germany because...

The time has come. They are here.

The Sequel:
Book Two of Two

Maya Smock gets inside of a time capsule and travels back to 1944 Germany. A Nazi doctor forces her to meet his superiors, proving to them all that his invention works. Hitler studies Maya like a laboratory rat at his Eagle’s Nest and then introduces her to the Reptilians. She plummets deep into the hollow earth. Will she ever get home? Only Maya’s next novel can show her friends how to get her back.

As Operation Chrome expands, General Andreas steals more babies. He believes that he is saving them from an extraterrestrial agenda connected with World War II. The hybrid babies have grown.

They are here. They will take what is theirs.

Review of The Sequel

Between The Best Seller and The Sequel, the author has taken us on a wild ride. I feel like we have really come to know these characters and we have seen them go through so much and prevail.

This novel really starts off with a bang and doesn't let up for most of the novel. There is a lot going on and plenty of action to keep you flipping pages furiously. It is such a great continuation!

This novel was a bit darker and deeper in my opinion but fit with the first one quite well. It was able to elevate the series.
