Christmas in Prague is the story of Joseph, a divorced American twenty-something living as an expat in Prague. He's obsessed with Karina, a Czech waitress-turned-supermodel. She's freshly back from a trip to Italy with her English teacher, and she's ready to give Joseph the attention for which he's been longing. Will his Christmas wish come true?

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

I prefer not to talk about writing. The more I talk about it, the less I do of it. Perhaps instead, let me tell you about my next release.
Save yourself the plane ticket and the jet lag. Come away with me on a romantic adventure through the streets of Prague.
In April 2019, I am set to release Part II of “The Chimera of Prague.” In this book, my fifth, change is in the air.
In Part I, the main character, Joseph, he’s tall, he’s handsome, he’s athletic. And he’s lost. His marriage is over. His dream of writing a novel is dead. He’s stuck, one hand in his jet black hair, the other adjusting his tortoiseshell glasses, somewhere between self-pity and a cycle of esteem-draining relationships. He’s convinced himself that he’s obsessed with a young Czech woman, a waitress named Karina. She’s tall, slender, and her heart is on the mend after a recent breakup. Her modeling career is about to take off.
Early in Part II, Joseph gets a wake up call. It’s a kick in the stomach.
It’s just what he needs.
As a result, he re-thinks everything. He re-thinks his relationships, who he calls his friends, where he spends his time and how. Haunted by the image of his lost friend, the unfortunate Ingrid, he’s trying to make better decisions. He can hear her clicking her tongue each choice he makes.
For Joseph, re-thinking means picking up his pen. This time he’s not writing for anyone else but himself. Readers of the first book will be glad to know that Dani, Joseph’s first love, is back. She’s featured in his stories as he digs through his past trying to get back to the origin of his own heartbreak.
The book is set in Prague, and at every opportunity, readers get a taste of the beauty, the magic, the history contained in this ancient European gem.
(If you really must know, the hardest thing about writing, for me, is knowing what to work on next. So many good ideas, so little time.)

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

My iPod? Oh my goodness. Do you really want to know? It’s embarrassing. No really. It is.
But I can tell you this. My next release is chock full of music references. If Joseph, my main character, had an iPod it would have all of these songs on it from the book:
“You spin me round” by Dead or Alive
“Bizarre Love Triangle”, a song from New Order
The Prince song, “When Doves Cry”
The Bronski Beat song, “Smalltown Boy”
     “Push it” by Salt-n-Pepa
(If you really must know, “idfc” by blackbear - Joseph would love that song.)

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I have an alpha reader, beta readers (a dozen or so - always looking for more), critique partners, a copy editor, and reviewers.
I’m humbly grateful to count myself part of a constellation of artists, writers, editors, designers, teachers and friends. Who can say why or how these things happen, but by grace and universal goodness, my writing network expands.

What book are you reading now?

I come to writing as a reader first. Maybe most writers do.
But rather than pin myself down, let me tell you what the main character Joseph is reading in my next release. He’s reading Dr. Zhivago. Again. He collects the descriptions of winter and keeps them in a file for reference.

(If you really must know, I’m promiscuous; when it comes to books, of course. I am reading “Losing Venice” by Scott Stavrou for a review I am working on, I’m reading “Grandmother” by Bozena Nemcova for Czech culture and “Without Fail” by Lee Child for guilty pleasure.)

How did you start your writing career?

A writing career? Is that what this is?
Let me tell you about the writing career of my main character Joseph. His dream of writing a novel is dead. It’s true he keeps a journal and he’s been toying around with a couple of short stories in an effort to understand his particular brand of dysfunction, but he’ll tell you, perhaps to a fault: he’s no writer.

(If you really must know, it all began when I decided to quit my job in Corporate America and moved to Prague. I wanted to see if I could make a career of writing.
Back then, my stories brought me a taste of success. I won a short story prize at MIT, and a hyperfiction short story I wrote in college and then published on the web was read more than 10,000 times.
Twenty years later, I have four books in print and available as eBooks.)

Tell us about your next release.

Uh. Yeah. Um… Can I ask you a question: Have you been paying attention?

After having several children, parents often feel well-equipped to take on the challenges of another child. When Matt and Tammy Parker decided to add a child to their family, they had little idea of the blessings and struggles God had in store for them. The Crucible's Fire paints a picture of God's steadfast love through trials as he holds one family in the loving and protective crucible of his faithfulness. Readers will learn:

·         The raw emotion of unexpected hardship

·         How to rely on God for strength

·         The beauty of God's faithfulness when it seems all hope is lost

·         How to trust in God through their own dark night of the soul

·         The sanctification that comes only through the refining fire of trials

·        Strengthen your own trust in God's refining faithfulness as you join this family through the joys and pains of raising a special needs child.

Interview with the Author

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Finishing. I work and rework until it is hard to get a finished product. I have to make myself work to a deadline and work toward completion.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

First of all, I’m an Android guy. :D But on my Spotify, I play a Christian Mix and Lecrae radio station. I love Christian rap, followed closely by an eclectic mix of 80’s hair bands and contemporary Christian praise and worship.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes. I have two very good friends who proof my work, in addition to my wife. I also have a fairly large Launch team, I think there are 15 of them, who sometimes serve as beta readers.

What book are you reading now?
“Abide in Christ” by Andrew Murray

How did you start your writing career?

I started writing at a very young age. I wrote short stories, poems, lots of different things. I hadn’t written much in many years, especially after my daughter was born. There simply wasn’t time. As I published my blog, people would say things like, “you should write all this down in a book.” My dad printed out and kept every note, every email, and every blog post. That finally gave me the push to go ahead and put it all together. That’s when my love for writing was rekindled and I haven’t looked back since!

Tell us about your next release.

I have three distinct passions as they pertain to writing: Special needs parenting, Foster / Adoptive care, and Discipleship. The next release will probably be focused on being a foster / adoptive parent and the things we have learned from that experience.

Excerpt

Before you read this book, I want you to imagine being the best possible version of yourself that you can be. What if you could believe that your mind and your body never stop progressing unless you limit yourself? Picture your dream life, and then picture it again. Think about what it means to you. Think about what drives you. Is it money, power or fame? Aspirations to help and inspire others? Being the best at what you do? Passion? Are you willing to do whatever it takes, and I mean whatever it takes, to reach your full potential? Not someone else’s potential, not someone else’s idea of who you should be, but your full potential. Are you willing to let go of what other people think of you, and let go of the doubts about yourself and others? Are you willing to let go of self-created fears, and then let go of what’s going on in other people’s lives, to focus on bettering your life and becoming the best you can possibly be?  That is how you Thrive. When you have left behind all of your pre-conceptions and doubts about your abilities, when you have stopped comparing yourself and your progress to others, where you have carved out a space and time to endeavor, where the only option you have left is building your dream life. That’s living to Thrive.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
The discipline to get started is the worst part of the process for me. At the start, it seems like a process that will never end. Once the first chapter has been written, though, things settle down and get easier. Then it’s a matter of seeing how exciting the plot you create can be.

What songs are most played on your iPod?
No iPod in my office. I have Sirius XM linked to my desktop, and you will find me listening to Garth Brooks, Frank Sinatra, or instrumentalists on Escape. It all depends upon the mood – Garth for the action parts, Sinatra and Escape for more mellow times.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
I do, but not a particularly formal group. They are people who read the first book and made suggestions. Now they do it whenever there is a new book. I like their suggestions, because they tell it like it is.

What book are you reading now?
I have just started the new Clive Cussler book, The Romanov Ransom. My previous read was The Reckoning, by John Grisham and I moved through that at a fast pace. If you are an avid reader, a good book just keeps you going, and then when it’s over, you feel sad.

How did you start your writing career?
I believe I always loved to read . . . or at least I remember reading when I was a very young boy. Books and sports were my favorite things. I dreamed about writing for a newspaper, and started by doing some sports stories for my hometown weekly newspaper. I could not believe it when I got a job covering basketball tournaments for the Winona Daily News my senior year in high school. Not sure how many times I re-wrote that first story, but it was a lot.

Tell us about your next release.

My fourth book features the same two law officers that you have met in books one through three. This time they are chasing moonshiners and cattle rustlers. Both my father and my father-in-law were great storytellers, and they talked often about moonshine and rustling. It just seemed fitting to use those messages as the heart of another mystery, Death by Explosion.

What if the job you took to stay alive might be what kills you?

Kade knows what it is to suffer. He knows what it's like to lose everything and everyone around him.

His job in a Stormer Unit guarantees not just his survival in the decimated country of Azetaria, but his sister Meg's. Even if it means facing the Numachi warriors baying for his blood, he'll do what it takes to keep her safe.

Hadley is alone and surviving the only way she knows how. By hiding where predators won't find her and scavenging enough just to keep her alive.

When desperation drives Hadley to search for her missing brother, she mistakenly accepts the offer of recruitment into the Stormer's camp, only to be partnered with Kade and sent as a scout into Numachi territory.

The intimidating young Stormer may just know where her brother has gone. But can they stay alive long enough to find him?

Excerpt

Kade’s footsteps were heavy as he approached and stared down at her. “This isn’t going to work. You need to be wearing something lighter, or we’ll never make it to Lazen.”

Hadley tried for a weak shrug but could barely muster the energy. “What do you suggest?”

Kade raised an eyebrow, and a deep frown appeared on his face as he considered her.  He continued to stare at her as she sat, legs sprawled out on the ground. “The best I can come up with is cutting your clothing.”

His eyes narrowed as he searched the length of her. A bolt of alarm jostled her into thinking. “How much are you cutting off?”

Kade dipped his chin, his voice low as he spoke. “Enough, so you don’t keep fainting, enough, so you still pass for a boy.”

He reached for a knife and wore the slightest of smiles as he unsheathed it. “Let’s hope you have hairy legs then eh?”

Hadley’s lips split into a smile before she remembered she was annoyed with him for being so smug.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Finding the time to write. As a wife and mom with a full-time 9-5 job, I’m left with only about 2 hours each night to dedicate to marketing, research, writing, and editing. I have a notebook full of story ideas and never enough time to write.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

Lots of pop hits from the 90s plus just about every album from Creed and Breaking Benjamin.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Yes. A good friend from college invited me to join a writing group, which meets via conference call. We socialize, read, and offer constructive criticism on each other’s works.

What book are you reading now?

At the moment, reading has taken a backseat to working on the sequel to Leather and Lies. However, the book sitting on the top of my TBR pile is Look Alive Twenty-Five by Janet Evanovich. I can’t get enough Stephanie Plum antics.

How did you start your writing career?

I’ve been writing fiction as a hobby since elementary school. It’s cathartic for me. I was about half way through penning Leather and Lies when I realized it might be good enough to pursue publication. I got a ton of fabulous advice from a romance author friend that led me to enter Leather and Lies into some romantic suspense contests. I was fortunate enough to become a finalist in some of those contests, which helped bolster my query letters. The rest, as they say, is history.

Tell us about your next release.

My next release will likely be the as-yet-unnamed sequel to Leather and Lies. It will once again follow criminal profiler Skye Winters, this time as she begins her career in Washington D.C. It begins with the murder of a Senator, and the political intrigue deepens from there. I’m also working on a stand-alone second chance romance masquerading as a murder mystery as well as a paranormal romantic suspense novella.

Agapanthus was kidnapped when she was only two years old, but she doesn’t remember it. In fact, she doesn’t remember her home planet at all. All she knows is Deeyae, the land of two suns; the land of great, red waters. Her foster-family cares for her, and at first that’s enough. But, as she grows older, Agapanthus is bothered by the differences between them. As an Exchanger, she’s frail and tall, not short and strong. And, even though she was raised Deeyan, she certainly isn’t treated like one. One day, an Exchanger boy completes the Deeyan rite-of-passage, and Agapanthus is inspired to try the same. But, when she teams up with him, her quest to become Deeyan transforms into her quest to find the truth―of who she is, and of which star she belongs to.

Interview

• What is the hardest part of writing your books?

The hardest part is the first page. It's always difficult to jump into a new world with new characters. It takes a while to get into the rhythm of a novel!

• What songs are most played on your Ipod?

Four Out of Five by Arctic Monkeys, Youth by Glass Animals, and Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major!

• Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Not exactly, but I do have friends and family read my manuscripts.

• What book are you reading now?

"The Left Hand of Darkness" by my favorite author, Ursula Le Guin.

• How did you start your writing career?

I've wanted to be a published author since I was in third grade! My first time writing a novel was in a high school creative writing class, and even though that didn't come out too well, my next novel attempt did, and I had my first book, "Call of the Sun Child," published while still in college.

• Tell us about your next release.

My newest novel, "The Seas of Distant Stars," was just released in August! I also have another manuscript in the works that I hope to get published eventually, with themes focusing on climate change, plastic pollution, and industrial agriculture.
