The community comes first – no matter what.

For ten years, the Utopia Tower experiment has been a resounding success. Conceived by a tech billionaire, the state-of-the-art apartment complex offers a life-changing opportunity: rent-free living for residents who adhere to the "Five Pillars of Harmony" and maintain the building's pristine reputation. It is a tight-knit community where neighbors look out for one another, ensuring that nothing endangers their sanctuary and their right to continue living there.

Antonio, a young lawyer, moves into the tower to care for his grandmother, eager to join this idyllic social experiment. But the veneer of perfection cracks when two young men—both considered bad apples and threats to the community's serenity—die in unusual circumstances within a single month. Despite warnings to leave well enough alone, Antonio suspects a connection and digs deeper. He discovers that, in a building designed for total harmony, asking the wrong questions can make you the next problem to be handled. Is there a killer hiding among the residents? Is the billionaire founder protecting his investment? Or is the truth far more terrifying?

In an environment where preservation of the collective is the prime directive, how far will the community go to protect itself?

Perfect for fans of Black Mirror, Blake Crouch, and high-concept tech mysteries.

When the Life You’ve Built Still Isn’t Enough and How to Restore What Actually Matters

Christian Living / Religion / Nonfiction

Date Published: August 4, 2026

Publisher: Lucid Books Publishing

You’ve worked hard, built a good life, and achieved what you set out to accomplish. So why does something still feel off?

On the surface, everything looks right. But underneath, something is beginning to crack—and no amount of success, performance, or achievement seems to fix it.

Josh Wintermute knows that feeling well. After walking through physical, mental, financial, and spiritual struggles, he came to a life-changing realization: the problem wasn’t just the circumstances—it was the foundation.

In this honest and practical book, Josh walks you through the three foundational areas every life is built on—your heart, your home, and your culture. He helps you uncover what’s broken beneath the surface, do the hard work of restoration, and rebuild on what truly matters.

You are not as stuck as you think.
You are not as alone as you feel.
And you are going to make it.

Interview

Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?

I call the work I do Life Building, where I walk with individuals to focus on their heart, home, and culture. As I have walked with people I realized I was working through the same concepts and stories time and time again. I needed to gather all of these concepts and create a resource to get into their hands. I connected with a book writing coach and started writing. I spent over a year writing until the manuscript was completed and then reached out to a few publishing companies to see what could be. Once I chose a publisher, the book went into editing, rewrites, and then on to naming the book and choosing the layout, cover and overall feel. This process took around 6 months until I was holding my book for the first time.

What surprised you most about getting your book published?

I was most surprised by the excitement and belief my family and friends had for me as a author. I never thought I could write a book so this pushed me past my comfortability and made me slow down to learn about the process and wrestle through the concepts in a way I never had before. Once the book was published and I had it in my hands, there was a huge relief and a wave of emotions as all the hard work was finally complete.

Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing.

When I am not writing I spend a lot of time with my wife Rachael and our 3 sons. We love to host our friends at our house, watch our youngest son play football, cheer on the Denver Broncos, fish, and travel.  I also run a business called Quiet Winters where I walk with individuals to build a stronger life, focused on the heart, home, and culture. So, I spend a good amount of time having coffee or lunch with clients and helping them live the best life possible.

As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?

The moment I opened the box containing the finished book was the most pivotal point. I never thought I could be an author so when the book was in my hands, I was overcome with emotion. Now that the book is out and I am hearing stories of how the readers are connecting with the book, I am inspired to create more resources and open to the idea of additional books.

Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?

My best ideas came from my mistakes, hard seasons, and the lessons learned along the journey. I believe this is because of the internal work required to move past the pain, disappointment, and challenges we face in life. When we face hard times we must lean into the season and have hope for what can be in the midst of what we currently see. This develops strength, character, and perseverance.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

Early in the process of writing I wanted to stay vague in some of the concepts and the stories of my life. I consistently was challenged by my editor to step out in vulnerability. This challenged me and made me realize fear was keeping me back from fully sharing my brokenness. Looking back, this was one of the things that makes my book different and relatable to the reader.

What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?

Hearing how the book has helped the individual reader heal  is incredibly humbling. Their stories are the most impactful as a reader will retell pieces of the book and how they coincide with their life and helped them heal has been incredible.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

As a newly published, first time author, I never realized the amount of work that goes into this process. The idea of writing another book is appealing but, Im still catching my breath from this one. I would say I have at least one, half-finished, book in a very rough form at this time.

Book Blitz: Eternity in Motion by James E. Winder #poetry #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours

Poetry

Date Published: August 24, 2026

All joy wants eternity … wants deep, deep eternity. With this declaration of primordial lust, the patron saint of post-modernity exalts his mania for joy, alongside the unquenchable thirst of the will to power, and, with it, the futile quest for the super-human. The cultural force of this dictum, which has become a commonplace among the literati, still drives the onslaught of thought and behavior, even, and perhaps foremost, among those who remain ignorant of its explicit pronouncement. A prophet is always heard most widely and wrongly, not through his own voice, but through the discordant voices of his wayward disciples. Amid the endless cacophony of copycats, who vainly mimic the grand style of their master, you’re tempted to forget the desperate loneliness of the solitary individual, a hermit in his many hideaways and masks, who, above all else, sought to transmute his solitude into a macho justification for human tenderness.

Late at night, when she is fast asleep, you crawl into bed; and in the midst of the dark, quiet night, you hear rhythmic spasms in her breathing as she dreams. Thoughtlessly, carelessly, inevitably, your mind empties itself so that there is only the sound of her breathing – paradoxically steady and spasmodic. In your own late-night, overwrought, careworn mania, you manage to convince yourself that what you really hear at this moment is the sound of eternity singing. Physiologically, you might interpret this as a mental phantom concocted out of the stresses and strains of a tiring day. But this illusion produces a reality that the mind cannot deny without destroying a part of itself. Loving your mind too much to bear losing even its most illusory fragments, you cannot help but think that these moments are gateways to eternity, that they are not merely the pleasant afterimages you dream up to forget a day of painstaking and tedious work but that they are indeed what you have lived through the day to reach, to grasp and caress, if only for a fleeting instant. Such moments (and not the jobs you do) are the serious work of your life.

This book, the third and final one in the eternity trilogy, continues to recount the conspiracy of nowhere and now here that unfolded in "The History of Eternity" and "Passages to Eternity." Read this book, if you will, and follow the adventures of this paradox as it reveals itself in the lives of 36 historical individuals, including Musil, Bloy, Peguy, George Eliot, Kripke, Blake, Nishida Kitaro, Cather, Nagarjuna, Fitzgerald, Bruno, Paz, John Duns Scotus, Mallarmé, Burke, Achebe, Murdoch, Epictetus, St. John of the Cross, Turing, Lispector, Goya, Pirandello, Blanchot, Tennyson, Messiaen, Cantor, O’Connor, Nin, Lowell, Racine, Vidal, Niebuhr, Twain, Derrida, C.S. Lewis and many others.

About the Author

Mr. James E. Winder was born on June 16, 1953, in Athens, Tennessee, and graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1975 with a B.A. in philosophy and literature. He earned an M.A. in philosophy from Purdue University in 1980.

James Winder spent the lion’s share of his career as a mid-level manager and intelligence analyst for the National Security Agency (NSA), where he retired in 2013 after 30 years of service. At NSA, Mr. Winder’s most noteworthy assignment was in 1991-1992, when he served as Assistant Director of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board (PFIAB). During that time, he co-authored a report for President George H.W. Bush on intelligence lessons learned during the first Gulf War and provided extensive research and documentation on a wide range of other matters of great interest to the PFIAB board members. In a special commendation, then Acting PFIAB Chairman, Admiral Bobby Ray Inman, cited Mr. Winder for his “expert advice to the President of the United States” and for his “extremely incisive and timely contributions on some very complex issues.”

During three decades at NSA, Mr. Winder produced three classified, book-length studies, most notably including a comprehensive report on an important subject, which won NSA’s annual Cryptologic Literature Award. He also wrote a wide variety of other in-depth reports on Soviet intelligence, terrorism, and technical threats to U.S. telecommunications.

Mr. Winder is the author of The History of Eternity, a series of philosophic meditations in poetic form, which is, according to Mr. Winder, the cryptic story of his life and the lives of many others. There is – in the history of philosophy or literature – no other work that is akin to it in nature and scope.

Land of Math is a vibrant juvenile picture book that introduces early learners to the building blocks of mathematics through a whimsical narrative centered on the structured realms of Ones, Tens, and Hundreds. When the princes’ magical meddling leads to an overflow of Ones, the king must consult the High Wizard of Ordinals. By utilizing the enchanted Carry-Over and Borrow Rivers, King Equation successfully manages the numerical surplus, teaching readers about place value and operational balance. This delightful adventure blends creative storytelling with academic fundamentals, providing an accessible and engaging way for children to master basic arithmetic and logic.

Excerpt

In the Land Of Matth with an A, the subjects loved order so much that they built their towns in tight, neat little blocks. They were grouped by the size and lived in homes built just for them. There were ONES, TENS, and HUNDREDS.

The ONES were peasants who kept the villages running.

The Tens were ten times taller than the Ones. They were royalty who ruled over towns and cities.

The HUNDREDS were ten times larger than the Tens and, therefore, one hundred times greater than the Ones. Because of their enormous size, they watched over the entire kingdom, There were only three of them: King Equation and his brothers, Prince Addition and Prince Subtraction.

Waffles and Wisdom

Small Town Mystery

Date Published: September 6, 2026

In the heart of historic Columbus, Wisconsin, Bernie’s Café is more than a place for waffles, bacon, and hot coffee. It is a morning refuge where old friends gather at the same window table to trade jokes, argue over faith and politics, remember the people they have loved, and carry one another through the ordinary aches of aging. Ed Johnson, a Norwegian storyteller with a talent for embellishment, Bill Welcher, a widowed hardware-store owner with more opinions than patience, Grant Belmont, a retired dentist facing fragile health, and Leo Gibson, a minister emeritus whose quiet wisdom steadies them all, have built a brotherhood out of breakfast. Watching over them are Lou, the sharp-tongued waitress whose fierce loyalty hides a difficult past, Marlene, steady and observant, and Bernie himself, the café owner who understands that food can be a form of mercy.

Their familiar routine shifts when newcomer Myra Davis walks through the door. Polished, watchful, and impossible to ignore, Myra brings new energy to the café—and new questions. She charms Bill, unsettles Lou, and begins asking about River Road, old land records, and the reclusive Deakins sisters whose estate may hold secrets the town has tried to forget. As Bill’s loneliness makes him vulnerable to the possibility of a second chance, Lou’s instincts tell her Myra’s interest in Columbus is no accident. What begins as small-town curiosity becomes a search through courthouse files, faded maps, family rumors, and memories preserved beneath pantry floorboards and long forgotten ledgers.

While Grant confronts a medical crisis that may pull him toward his daughter in Madison, Bill risks his heart on a woman he barely knows, and Lou must decide whether her suspicion is wisdom, jealousy, or an old wound warning her too loudly.

As Myra’s connection to the Deakins estate becomes clearer, another force emerges: preservationist Charles Pritchard, a man determined to protect history even if protecting it means controlling who gets to claim it.

Warm, humorous, and gently suspenseful, Breakfast at Bernie’s: Waffles and Wisdom is a story about friendship in the later seasons of life, the cost of loving deeply, and the danger of secrets left too long in the dark. Set against the comforting rhythms of a small-town café, it blends tender character drama with a mystery rooted in family history, land, memory, and belonging. At Bernie’s, every cup of coffee carries a story, every argument hides affection, and every person at the table must decide what is worth protecting—and what must finally be brought into the light.

Gay Paranormal Romance

Believing in love and in luck is something Gavin swore he’d never do again -- until he meets Ford.

After being left at the altar by his former fiancé, he’s a firm disbeliever in good fortune and love. Though there’s an immediate attraction between himself and Ford, they’re just too different to make a relationship work. The sex is explosive and despite himself Gavin even grows to like Ford’s quirky sense of humor and skewed view of life. Isn’t that good enough?

Not for Ford. A happy-go-lucky diviner of fortunes and omens, he’s sure from what he’s seen that Gavin is the love of his life and the man he’ll marry. He makes it his mission to overcome Gavin’s doubts and fears and teach him how to love again. Never giving up in his enthusiastic pursuit of the once-burned twice-shy secretary, he brings Gavin back to life and helps restore him to the man he used to be.

Ford makes Gavin want to believe in love again. But when Ford begins to lose his faith, it’s up to Gavin to save the magic they have between them and blaze the trail toward their happily ever after.

EXCERPT

“Something wonderful is going to happen today.”

“Were you talking to me?” A fun-sized blonde deliverywoman, no one Ford had met before, juggled her armload of Flowers Fast! boxes to pop out her iPod earbuds.

Ford grinned up at her from where he’d crouched to study the sidewalk perpendicular to the museum service elevator he, and presumably she, was waiting on. “Sorry, no. I wasn’t talking to you. Not that I wouldn’t. Everyone I’ve ever known swears you can’t shut me up for love or money. They’re usually right.”

The deliverywoman looked like she couldn’t decide between aww, cute and running. “You’re a little crazy, aren’t you?”

“So I’m often told.” He’d bet this woman was one heck of a character herself. She’d made some, er, interesting fashion choices involving calf-length striped tights and patchouli hair wax. “I’m Ford.” He offered her a hand from below. “Come down here and check this out.”

“This isn’t some kind of cheesy pick-up line, is it? I’d be flattered, but… okay, wow. From the look on your face, I can answer that one myself. So not a pick-up line. If you were any less into women, you’d be a gastropod.”

Ford laughed. “That’s a new one on me.”

“If the shoe fits. I’m Kayla.”

“Ford.”

“Like the truck?” The deliverywoman crouched beside him. Good. Ford liked her, and her coming along for the ride was an excellent sign. Something wonderful and something unexpected were set to happen today. “You deliver for Rush Plus, right?”

“Packages where you want them to go as fast as you want ‘em to get there. Or as fast as I can pedal.” Ford patted his heavy messenger bag.

“Pleased to meet you. I could use a pick-me-up. Delivering flowers is surprisingly thankless work. What’s this good thing that’s going to happen today?”

“I don’t know yet.” Ford waved up from their spot on the sidewalk at the weird door to the external service elevator and the five floors of refurbished mill-cum-museum it had to sledge its way down at the speed of thick molasses. “It’s complicated. If you’re up for it, there’s time for me to explain.”

“God, tell me about it.” Kayla scowled at the stubborn doors.

Ford had started to feel the burn of his crouch, the solid weight of his body not really best designed for sitting this way, but he could take it a little longer, and he had a good example right in front of him. A penny, less than a foot away on the sidewalk. “Do you believe in magic?”

“Wait, what? Do you mean stage magic? Illusions and that kind of thing?”

“Not exactly.” Ford nudged the penny with the tip of his finger and waggled his eyebrows at her. He liked playing over the top. Made people less nervous of the giant with his crazy talk.

“Ohh, I get it. See a penny, pick it up, and all day long you’ll have good luck?”

“Exactly.” Ford levered the penny off the sidewalk.

“Ugh!”

“Hey, don’t knock it just because it needs a little TLC.” Ford balanced the penny in his palm, where it looked lost and tiny in the breadth and width of his hand. Or, depending on your point of view, safe. Protected. “It’s heads up, even. Extra good luck.”

“Yeah, but where’s the proof?”

“You don’t need proof if you believe. And I do. Because it’s true. This penny means it’s my lucky day.” Ford shifted and winced. His knees had had enough of bearing all his weight. Time to stand. “I need to stand up. Don’t freak out, okay?”

“Why would that tweak me?”

“You’ll see.” Ford stood slowly to give her time to adjust to his size. At six feet nine with a proportionate build that could only be described as solid, he liked to make sure people knew in advance he wasn’t a threat.

Kayla’s eyes widened. She took a step back, then forward, her chin up. “Holy cow. Sorry, just… wow, man. You’re huge.”

“And you’re itty-bitty. I won’t hurt you.”

“A gentle giant, huh?” Kayla studied him with her head tilted to one side. “Okay. I believe you.”

“You’d be surprised how many don’t. Thank you. May I?” Ford took her hand to kiss the back of it.

“Touché, Mister.” Kayla fiddled with a strand of her spiky hair. “So you really, really believe in luck? What about omens and good signs and that kind of thing?”

“Yes, yes, yes, and all of the above, yes. And you don’t, right?”

When Kayla shook her head, a ladder of silver rings running along the outer shells of her ears jingled. All positive signs that pointed toward good fortune. Better and better. “Don’t shun me or anything. I’ve just never seen any proof that all those old wives’ tales are more than just stories.”

Ford grinned broadly at her. He loved it when someone was willing to be convinced. “If it’s proof you want, I can do proof. Prepare to be amazed.”

A Story for a Fractured Nation, Healing America’s Divide Through the Redemptive Power of Shared Purpose

Nonfiction

Date Published: Coming OCT 6, 2026

Publisher: Elite Online Publishing

The day after Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election, a New York Times reporter called trial attorney Edward Blackmon, Jr. with one question:

What should the rest of America expect?

This book is their answer.

Mississippi gave Edward and Barbara Blackmon—and the generations before them—a vantage the rest of the nation is only now beginning to feel. What Americans are living through today is not a new reality improvised in real time. It is the same ancient machinery that has always been here.

They spent their lives inside a system built to contain them: segregated schools and courthouses, voting maps drawn to dilute Black power, courtrooms that treated justice as a privilege. Locked as a teenager in a Canton jail during the civil-rights struggle, Edward decided then to become a lawyer so the law could serve as a shield rather than a weapon. He served more than four decades in the Mississippi House of Representatives and helped redraw the state’s political maps, more than doubling Black representation. The National Law Journal twice named him one of the nation’s top ten litigators.

Barbara Blackmon broke barriers of her own. She earned her degree from Jackson State University at nineteen, an MBA from the University of Alabama, a law degree from the University of Mississippi, and an LL.M. in taxation from New York University. She became the first Black woman to represent Madison, Yazoo, and Holmes counties in the Mississippi Senate from a majority-white district, later won the Democratic nomination to run for lieutenant governor, and, with her husband, built a statewide law practice in Canton that took the fight from the Capitol floor to the courtroom.

Two Minds, One Rhythm is the story of how two formidable minds learned to move together toward goals that serve humanity—and why we must unite now to heal a fractured nation before it is too late. This book does not stop at diagnosis. It offers a path forward: work, faith, education, and shared purpose. See the other side without surrendering yours. Rebuild trust. Choose courage over fear. The fractures can still be closed—not if we wait until the rest of the world finishes watching us come apart.

About the Author

EDWARD BLACKMON, JR.

Edward Blackmon, Jr. is a nationally recognized trial attorney, former Mississippi State Representative, and longtime advocate for voting rights and equal representation. A graduate of Tougaloo College and The George Washington University Law School, he co-founded Blackmon & Blackmon, PLLC, with his wife and law partner, Barbara, in Canton, Mississippi.

During four decades in the Mississippi House of Representatives, Edward helped lead legislative and judicial redistricting efforts that dramatically increased Black representation in the state legislature and judiciary. He broke at-large elections, drew maps that more than doubled Black representation, and created Mississippi’s first majority-Black judicial subdistricts. He won landmark verdicts—$177 million—and fifty criminal trials without a loss. Twice named one of the Nation's Top Ten Litigators by The National Law Journal, he has received numerous honors for his legal and public service, including the J. William Fulbright Distinguished Public Service Award and the National Black Caucus of State Legislators State Nation Builder Award.

Edward and Barbara married in 1986 and raised four children, two of whom now serve in the Mississippi Legislature.

BARBARA BLACKMON

Barbara Blackmon is a trailblazing attorney, former Mississippi State Senator, and Managing Partner of Blackmon & Blackmon, PLLC, the law firm she built with her husband, Edward. She holds degrees from Jackson State University, the University of Alabama, the University of Mississippi School of Law, and New York University, where she earned an LL.M. in Taxation.

In 1992, she became the first Black woman elected to represent Madison, Yazoo, and Holmes counties in the Mississippi State Senate—a majority-white district. She broke barriers as the first woman named Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, the first woman and first Black senator to chair an Appropriations subcommittee, and the first woman from the Senate appointed to the Legislative Budget Committee. In 2003, she made history as the first Black Mississippian to win the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

An attorney, mentor, philanthropist, and lifelong advocate for education, Barbara has received numerous honors for her public service. Together, she and Edward have contributed more than $1.7 million to Tougaloo College and Jackson State University and supported scholarships for dozens of students.

About the Author

N.J. McConnell is a Texas-based author of wholesome middle-grade and young adult fantasy. A software engineer with degrees in computer science, he brings the logic of a programmer and the imagination of a lifelong fantasy reader to his richly developed stories.

Inspired by reading J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit as a child, McConnell began writing the kind of relatable, family-friendly fantasy adventures he wished he had encountered more often growing up. For more than a decade, he has developed the magical world of Heartwell—a place filled with memorable characters, imaginative kingdoms, exciting quests, and meaningful lessons about faith, wisdom, mercy, courage, and discernment.

McConnell is the author of Heartwell: Heir of the Wizard, a coming-of-age fantasy adventure for readers in fifth grade and above. Through compelling characters, wholesome humor, magical contests, and timeless conflicts between good and evil, he hopes to create stories that entertain the entire family while encouraging readers to use their unique gifts with integrity and purpose.

Born and raised in Texas, N.J. McConnell lives in San Antonio with his wife and two children. When he is not writing, reading fantasy, or developing software, he enjoys coaching youth basketball and teaching Bible classes. Seeing his children experience the world and characters he spent years creating has made his journey as an author especially meaningful.

Political Thriller

Date Published: August 13, 2026

Run Time: 10 hours 17 minutes

What if the greatest threat to America wasn't war, terrorism, or China...but the trillions of dollars of debt we've pretended doesn't exist?

U.S. Senator Rick Taylor has been warning anyone who'll listen: the national debt is no longer a spreadsheet problem-it's a ticking bomb. But in Washington, truth is toxic. Colleagues dismiss him, constituents scream about "cuts to my benefits," and the media paints him as the villain who wants to gut Social Security.

Then the blackmail begins.

A shadowy network led by a ruthless operator making huge profits from unchecked government spending will stop at nothing to silence anyone who threatens the status quo. After Taylor's wife is targeted in a terrifying swatting attack and a sniper's bullet nearly ends Taylor's life, the message is clear. Shut up... or die.

Interview

What is the hardest part of writing your books?

My challenge is threading the needle between a timely issue and a page-turning story.

I start with something readers have already seen in a headline—something that’s just starting to feel like a real problem. Then I have to build a thriller around people whose lives are actually on the line. The issue has to stay in the background far enough that it never becomes a textbook, but close enough that the reader walks away knowing a little more than they did when they opened the book. With Debt Reckoning, that meant letting ordinary households feel the weight of the national debt without turning the novel into an economics class.

If the reader feels more connected to the characters than the issue, I’ve done my job.

What are your most played songs?

I actually wrote a song for my last book, A Higher Betrayal. The main character, Rick Taylor, is a political novice running for office. I wrote him as a conservative without ever naming a party, so I built lyrics that pulled from the mood of the conservative movement in 2023 and 2024. In the story, Taylor’s wife—a musician—offers the song, and it becomes part of the campaign.

When we recorded the audiobook, my narrator, Dannul Daily, asked if the song had a melody because he wanted to sing it. I sketched a simple tune and sent it over. I believe his brother played guitar, and Dannul performed it in a woman’s voice.

The song only exists in the book, so I can’t claim it’s on anybody’s most-played list. But it was one of the more unexpected things I’ve written.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

My good friend and golfing buddy Chuck is my first reader. He lives a thousand miles away, so I send him a few chapters at a time. He flags anything that doesn’t land or needs clarifying, and he does a light copy-edit so the manuscript is cleaner when it reaches my editor, Carrie Cannella. I’m sure she appreciates the head start.

I also ask for volunteers from my newsletter list to serve as beta readers. Their notes help me see how the story plays with people who aren’t already inside my head.

What book are you reading now?

I just finished Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. It’s not the kind of book I usually pick up, but my wife insisted I’d like it. She was right.

In a season where there is so much division and animosity, it was a pleasure to read something built around kindness and moral goodness. I also like reading an author’s first novel. Levi wrote this later in life and self-published it before it found a much bigger audience. That’s encouraging for every author still trying to get the next book right.

How did you start your writing career?

The first time I thought about writing a book was during the contested election of 2000. I watched the Florida recount stretch into December and the Supreme Court get involved. I was already an avid reader of Tom Clancy and writers like him, and it struck me that a manipulated national election would make a strong thriller.

I carried that idea for twenty years. When I was getting ready to retire from business, I pulled it back out. In the spring of that year I still wondered whether readers would connect with a story about an election that could be compromised. After 2020, that question answered itself. I sat down, learned what I needed about cybersecurity and the systems that actually run elections, and started writing.

That book became Wayward Patriot: Preserving the Vote. The rest of the series grew from the same habit: take a headline people already recognize and put ordinary people in the middle of it.

Tell us about your next release.

The book I’m working on now is set in a world where AI and humanoid robots are simply part of daily life—which is closer than most people think.

I’ve taken a secondary character from earlier books, FBI Special Agent Betty Finnigan, and put her where she can see the problems developing from several angles. As always, the question I start with is: AI and humanoid robots… what could go wrong?

I hope to release it in the spring of 2027. I need to keep moving. On this subject, the headlines can pass you by if you wait too long.

About the Author

Jack was introduced to thrillers when Tom Clancy's The Hunt for Red October was published. However, for most of his life, he was a reader rather than an author. During the 2000 Presidential election as he watched TV coverage of the Florida recount with 'dimpled chads' and 'hanging chads,' he thought an election conspiracy would be a great basis for a thriller. It wasn't until 2020 when he retired from his career, which included management positions in corporate America and small business ownership as well as a brief stint in ministry, that he sat down to write Wayward Patriot: Preserving the Vote.

His unique approach to political thrillers rips headlines from the news and weaves them through a thrilling tale of patriotism, political corruption and crisis. He says, "when I see some major new issue or technology in the news I want to learn more about it. I enjoy sharing what I learn with others by wrapping a story around it that will engage and entertain readers."

He and his wife, Barbara, have three grown children and seven grandchildren and divide their time between Colorado Springs and Tucson.

Gay Vampire Romantic Suspense

Date Published: October 9, 2026

Makoto and Will must accept their bond in order to stop a madman’s killing spree.

London, 1816. Someone is killing vampires and their Hosts, leaving brutalized bodies on display in the heart of London. Makoto Morinaga, minore and lead hunter for the Baron of Colbourne, must find and stop the madman. Yet the mission is in peril almost from the moment it starts. In despair over loving his master’s Host, he breaks his oath and finds himself bound through Compulsion to the last person he would choose as his Host -- the flamboyant young man who has spent years pining over their master. Makoto can ill afford this appalling distraction while he hunts for a monstrous killer.

Will Carter is an experienced Host who has offered up body and blood to vampires since reaching his majority. He spent years learning the duties of the Colbourne Host, only to have his dreams crumble when his master finds a man more perfect than Will. In his frustration, he taunts Colbourne’s lead hunter into committing a forbidden act. His punishment? Being bound to the last person he would ever wish to hold his contract -- Makoto Morinaga, a man whose body he knows well, but whose heart is a dark mystery and whose stoicism grates on Will’s every nerve.

An unexpected emotional connection heats their hearts even as their Host bond heats their bodies. Just as they begin to find common ground, the madman strikes again. Finding the madman’s lair might end the violence, but the price might destroy them both.

EXCERPT

Blood. Thickening blood, smoking and bubbling to a slow boil. The fire above it flickered in the shadows of the darkened alley. Postnato watched as the demon and its unholy servant writhed on the cobbles in purifying flame. Glee and eager satisfaction suffused him as he and his brother awaited the lethal culmination of their night’s work for the Inquisitio Sanguinis.

The demon’s mouth had pulled back from those inhuman fangs in a satisfying rictus of pain. The foul beast still struggled to free itself, despite sharpened stakes piercing shoulder and thigh, pinning it against the bloodied earth. The agonized contortions of the monster’s corrupt human slave had ceased, becoming the involuntary spasms of approaching death.

“Revertere ad inferos, Daemon,” Postnato whispered, condemning the beast to hell with a sneer. “Ad dominum tuum infernalis!”

Yes, back to Hell with you, back to your infernal master, he thought savagely.

The creature’s demonic struggles strengthened at the words, the frantic actions accompanied by a harsh croak of anguish. The renewal of its futile struggles only served to drive the stakes deeper into its flesh, and to fan the flames consuming it.

Postnato resumed his silence as Antenato raised a cautioning finger to his lips. He subsided with difficulty, impatient for the inhuman beast to surrender its last breath.

After another quarter hour, during which the human half of their quarry had become nothing but a flickering corpse-light, the demon gave a final shudder, slackening in approaching death at last.

With a grunt of satisfaction, Postnato bent for one of the buckets at his feet, waiting to douse the remaining flames after his brother had completed one more task, tearing a final, hoarse screech of pain along with the fangs from the dying beast. Antenato held his prize aloft, eyes aglow as their quarry expired. At this sign, Postnato heaved the contents of both pails over the corpses, smothering the fires with rotting offal gleaned from the butcher’s slop midden. The smoldering ruins sent up an instant reek, and he smiled in unison with his brother. This had not been their sacred mission, but chance had given them a demon and now there was one less to walk the earth.

Now to find the leader of these abominations.

About the Author

Autumn grew up loving history, mythology, and all things Japanese, not necessarily in that order. This eclectic love affair has bled over into her writing, and her stories are always well spiced with the taste of Japan, strange mythological beasties, or the lords and ladies of the ton. Sometimes all three, leading to dark desires and forbidden loves.

And after all, dangerous passions should lead to uninhibited love.
