Dystopian

What if you gave up everything you knew and loved for a lie?
Nearly one year ago, Celaine Stevens made the choice to leave her life behind to join The Epicenter, an organization charged with bringing down The Man in Black - a terrorist and the one responsible for the murder of her entire family. Battling conflicting emotions and the pain her decision caused, Celaine tells herself that her sacrifices will all have been worth it when The Man in Black is finally apprehended.
But, instead of hunting the elusive entity, Celaine and her partner Ian Grant find themselves preparing for a war looming on the horizon. Angered by President Brook’s ever-tightening restrictions, a rebellion has formed, leading the charge against the President and anyone who stands in their way. Caught in the middle, Celaine and Ian are forced to choose sides, having to decide whether to align themselves with the rebellion, whose motives they question, or obey the orders given to them by an organization they are steadily growing to distrust.
A war is sparked by deceit, new alliances are formed, an unexpected love begins to blossom, and true identities are revealed in Vendetta Nation, the second installment of the Enigma Black trilogy.

Interview
What is the hardest part of writing your books?

For me, the hardest part always seems to come in the middle of the book. It’s like I know my destination, but I can’t quite decide what path to take to get there. This usually resolves itself once I begin writing the novel and the solution will just come to me. I also struggle with writer’s block from time to time, though, thankfully, it normally doesn’t last very long.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?

I’m a huge fan of the band Red, particularly their song “Pieces“. I’ve played the heck out of that song over the years.  I also enjoy Lana Del Ray, Evanescence, Eminem, and Linkin Park, to name a few.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

I actually have a handful of people who I ask to beta read for me. In my opinion, beta readers are essential to any writer, often pointing out errors or other inconsistencies the writer may have missed because we, as writers, are too close to our own work to catch them.

What book are you reading now?

I’m just about finished with Fountain of Forever by K.D. Berry.  It’s a terrific fantasy with a bit of humor sprinkled in.  I highly recommend it to those fans of the fantasy genre.

How did you start your writing career?

I was a bit of a later bloomer, not getting serious with my writing until a couple of years ago. I’ve always loved writing, but I just never thought I’d ever be able to do it as a career, and although it really isn’t my career yet, I have hope that I’ll eventually get there.

Tell us about your next release.

I’m currently working on the final book in the Enigma Black trilogy, Redemption, which will be released in 2014.  Redemption picks up where Vendetta Nation leaves off, continuing Celaine and Ian’s quest to defeat The Man in Black and restore balance to their lives. It will provide readers of the series with the answers to their questions: Who will Celaine end up with? Will The Man in Black be brought down? Will Celaine ever find out who The Man in Black really is or what his motive is? What is the purpose of The Epicenter and the superheroes that it produced?  Will the rebellion prevail against President Brooks? As you can see, I have a lot of loose ends to wrap up.

Sara Furlong-Burr
Sara "Furlong" Burr was born on February 1, 1982, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. At an early age, when it became apparent she wouldn't have the luxury of skating through life on her looks or athletic prowess, Sara found her true passion in writing. While in fifth grade, she wrote her first "novel"(whose name escapes her at the moment) about five friends who win a trip to Hawaii. At ninety-something pages, it was her crowning achievement during her childhood (you may now begin drawing your own conclusions on how sad a childhood Sara actually had).

After focusing much of her adult life on her family and career as a paralegal, Sara found the voices in her head becoming unrelenting and she returned to her true passion. Currently, she's working on the third book in the Enigma Black trilogy (due out in 2014). She's also tossing around ideas for a chick-lit book about two ill-fated lovers (Lord, help her).

When she's not writing, Sara enjoys reading (pretty much a given), attempting to garden, shopping (prerequisite to being a woman), and spending time with her family and friends who somehow manage to tolerate her numerous disappearances propagated by infrequent bouts of inspiration.

Blog Tour: The Knowing by Nita Lapinski

Date Published: 11/27/2013
Non Fiction - Spiritual Memoir

Dubbed the “Sweetheart Rapist,” Aaron Goddard terrorized and raped more than a dozen women in northern California in the 1980s before authorities caught him. The attacks struck fear into the hearts of lovers everywhere as he targeted isolated spots where couples went to be alone. With a ski mask and a gun, the Sweetheart Rapist ordered men into the trunks of cars to listen helplessly while he raped their female partners, usually petite blondes.
The Knowing: Awake in the Dark is the true story of a young woman's love for a man who becomes a notorious serial rapist. Her unique, clairvoyant gifts warn her that he is a violent predator. Journey with her as she struggles to find her own self-worth, dignity, and love amidst deception and self-doubt, and learn how to use the power of intuition and conscious intent in your own life.

My Review
I'm always interested in things that I have very little knowledge about. There is something so fascinating about mediums and the entire practice.

I enjoyed the fact that this was a story about real experiences and a journey. Reading about Nita Lapinski was truly enlightening.

I have been working as a clairvoyant-medium for the past three decades, giving psychic readings to hundreds of clients all over the United States. I teach meditation classes and lead workshops on forgiveness, releasing judgment, and finding one’s intuition. I am a certified hypnotherapist and have studied integrative breath work and bio-energy. I am also a high-school dropout who barely earned her GED at the age of thirty. Against all odds, I taught myself to write at the age of forty-eight when I decided it was time to tell this story. I live in Arizona with my husband.

INTERVIEW
What is the hardest part of writing your books?

Lately it's been finding the time to sit and write! But luckily I've learned I write best with a short amount of time. Something magical happens when I know I only have a few minutes here and there to spare! Every word must count. It must be amazing. And you know what? Most of the time it works! Also I know the dishes can wait. The laundry will be there when I'm done. And who wants pizza for dinner??
What songs are most played on your Ipod?
Anything by The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Agnes Obel, NIN, or  Neko Case

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
Before getting picked up Lavish Publishing, I gave out about thirty three or so copies to groups of willing participants on various read and review groups on Goodreads. They were a huge help! My hubby read This Morning I Woke Up Dead three times and took notes! And my cousin read and made suggestions.. So long story short, yes, I have beta readers!

What book are you reading now?
I just picked up The Reunion by A. A Pencil. It's really great. you should totally check it out!

How did you start your writing career?
I remember writing my first story at age seven. It was about a princess looking for her prince! It was a pop up book, and I illustrated it and everything!  Writing has always been a big part of who I am. But it wasn't until six years ago that I was brave enough to go after it has a career and allow others to enjoy my gift of storytelling.

Tell us about your next release.
I'm working on the sequel to This Morning I Woke Up Dead. I don't wanna give too much away, but its entitled, Wake Up We're No Longer Dead. My goal is to have it done no later than May of 2013. It's going really well!

Blog Tour: The Portal's Choice by K.D. Pryor
2:30 AM1 Comments

Date Published: 5/6/2013
Young Adult Paranormal / Horror

Journal, just in case . . .
I didn’t ask to meet ghosts. Shoot, I was fine without them in my life. Uncle Craig and Hannah were nasty to me, but at least I knew how to handle living pains in the butt. Now I have to figure out how to open and close a portal between the human and spirit worlds. And I have to find and return a bunch of angry ghosts through the gateway and lock them on their side. I don’t know why the portal chose me to do this, a fifteen-year-old kid with no ghost busting experience. But it did. And if I want a ghost-free night’s sleep anytime soon, I’d better figure out how to get the job done. Because I’ve about had it with murderous ghouls and their unpleasant agendas.  “Signed Tallis Challinor”
When Tallis Challinor has to move a second time after the death of her parents, she hopes it is for good. She and her brother are ready to settle into a stable home situation with their Aunt Gabbie and her husband, Noreis. But what should have been a happy reunion is plagued with problems when Noreis opens a portal between the spirit and human worlds located in the basement of their house in New Hampshire.
Tallis is a practical kid. She doesn’t believe that ghosts exist. But she can’t deny what she sees with her own eyes and the two ghosts Tallis meets at Thanksgiving in the basement of her aunt’s house are definitely not figments of her imagination, although she wishes they were. Tallis is unwittingly drawn into the portal’s energy when one of the ghosts fixates on her and forces her to assist in the release of three particularly nasty spirits. As a final blow, the portal chooses Tallis as a temporary gatekeeper and she finds herself charged with the duty of returning the very ghouls she’s set free, plus a few of their buddies, back to the spirit realm.
As Tallis learns the secrets of the portal and begins to understand her newly acquired power, she formulates a plan to return the ghosts. Along the way, she receives help from many new friends who fill in the details about the identity of the escaped spirits, providing a possible motive for the outrageous actions of the escaped ghosts. Tallis must learn to trust herself and others as she taps into her inner courage to get the job done and save her town from the angry restless dead set.

INTERVIEW

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
I am easily distracted from my writing by other “need to do” things in my life. I’m working every day to put writing first and let other chores wait. That’s my struggle. But I’m always happier and have a greater sense of satisfaction when I put writing first.

What songs are most played on your Ipod?
Anything Coldplay but I’m an eclectic music lover. I have a shuffle on my iPhone with my favorites including Coldplay, The Fray, The Script, Sting, music from the 80’s (I know that I’m dating myself now because that is the music of my college days) and Jazz in the evenings when I’m cooking.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
I have been part of a writing group for the past 5 years. We all write different genres, but I can rely on any of the amazing women in the group to read my work and give me honest feedback. I can also count on lots of laughter when I’m with them. I also rely on my kids to make sure that I’m telling a story their contemporaries will enjoy reading.

What book are you reading now?
I read fiction and non-fiction. I’m currently listening to the audio book of “Labyrinth” by Kate Mosse and I’m reading “Dying to be Me” by Anita Moorjani.

How did you start your writing career?
I’ve always wanted to write but didn’t give it the time when my kids were really young. Then, in 2009 I took a writing class in my community, met the members of my writing group, and decided that it was time to make my dream a reality. With the support of my family and friends, I finished my first novel. That was a turning point. Now I know I can do it.

The next book in The Gatekeepers of Em’pyrean series, called The Forgotten Gate, will be released in 2014. It is a continuation of the story of my protagonist, Tallis Challinor and her continuing encounters with spirits who want to cause major problems for humans. The setting is once again in New Hampshire. But this time a derelict house, a creepy mausoleum, and a refurbished winery in the countryside will figure into the tale.

K.D. Pryor
KD Pryor started life in Missouri, where she read lots of books, even sneaking them into baseball games to the irritation of her father. Kelley graduated with a degree in International and Comparative Studies from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. After college and marriage to a great guy, she decided to pursue a law degree at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Her oldest son was born soon after law school, followed three years later by her daughter and a move to Kentucky. One more son, a move to Ohio and four years later, her family jumped on the opportunity to move to India. They lived in Bangalore, now Bengaluru, for four wonderfully chaotic years, traveling all over Asia, Australia and Europe.

Now, settled in New Hampshire with her family and herd of cats (only three), she can often be found in her office, working on the next installment of “The Gatekeepers of Em’pyrean” series, reading one of a dozen books she has started, and dreaming of her future travel destinations.

“The Portal’s Choice”, book one in “The Gatekeeper’s of Em’pyrean” series featuring Tallis Challinor, was released on May 6, 2013.

“The Inn of the Kindred Spirits”, a novella featuring protagonist Tallis Challinor, was released in November, 2013.

“The Forgotten Gate”, book two in “The Gatekeeper of Em’pyrean” series, is scheduled for release in 2014.

The Project Integrate Series - Release Blitz

By Jamie Campbell

Young Adult Sci-Fi Romance
Date to be Published: 12/1/2013

United They Stand.

Seventeen years ago an entire generation of aliens were sent to Earth in order to save their home planet and integrate into the human population. Now, those aliens are being hunted.

Amery Jones is your typical teenager, except for the fact she is an alien and a member of the government’s secret Project Integrate.

When Amery’s best friend Lola is kidnapped in order to get to her, there is only one person that can help – the exceedingly annoying and charming Lochie Mercury.

Together, Amery and Lochie must put aside their differences and attraction in order to rescue Lola before it’s too late.

EXCERPT

I tried to pay attention to the rest of the lesson, I knew I needed to know the particulars of the project but it was hard to imagine doing it with Lochie. We had known each other since we were little, we started school on the same day and had been in most classes together ever since.
I think my hatred started for him that first day. He pushed me into the sandpit where I landed with a decisive thud. All of his newly acquired friends laughed at me. I didn’t have any friends to come to my aide so I just had to push myself out of the pit and dust off the sand. I think I’ve been dusting off that sand every day ever since. And it was all because of Lochie.
I was supposed to be nice to everyone, that was part of the deal. I had to be kind, friendly, and lovable. If I was anything but, then I could potentially be removed from the project. When I was little I might have been okay with being pulled, but not now. Not after I’ve spent seventeen years here.
To lose my placing just because of Lochie would be like rubbing salt into my wounds – except a thousand times worse. So while I knew how I should act towards him, I still couldn’t. Not when one look at him made me want to pull my own eyeballs out of their sockets.

About the Author
Jamie Campbell

Jamie was born into a big, crazy family of 6 children. Being the youngest, she always got away with anything and would never shut up. Constantly letting her imagination run wild, her teachers were often frustrated when her ‘What I did on the weekend’ stories contained bunyips and princesses.

Growing up, Jamie did the sensible things and obtained a Bachelor of Business degree from Southern Cross University and worked hard to gain her membership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Yet nothing compared to writing. Quitting the rat race to spend quality time with her laptop named Lily, Jamie has written several novels and screenplays. Spanning a number of genres and mediums, Jamie writes whatever inspires her from ghost stories to teenage love stories to tantalising murder mysteries. Nothing is off limits.

A self-confessed television addict, dog lover, Taylor Swift fan, and ghost hunter, Jamie loves nothing more than the thrill of sharing her stories.

Date Published: 12/1/2013

But now her grandfather’s body has been recovered in the Netherlands in an area famous for being a Nazi killing ground. Why would her grandfather be buried in a place legendary for assassinations of resistance members? Skylar jets off to Holland in search of answers about her grandfather’s demise. Along the way she finds long-lost family and old friends but will she solve the mystery of what happened to her grandfather? And maybe she discovers something more valuable than resolving any mystery could be: herself.

EXCERPT

After I hang up the phone, I sit and stare at my computer for a while. I still have no clue how to carry on. I am completely and utterly stuck. I am at a loose end and don’t know what to do. I do have one promise, however, that I made to Griet before I left Michigan that I have to fulfill. I head off to the Wertheim park to fulfill that promise.
I stand at the Auschwitz memorial in the park and try to hold back my tears. It is so breathtakingly sad here. The smashed mirrors dominating this tiny park are heartbreaking. The memorial epitomizes the dichotomy that is the war and Holland. On the one hand, I am standing in front of a heart wrenching monument to the Dutch victims of the Holocaust that died in Auschwitz but in the background I hear the tram rumble by, dogs barking as they run around the grass of the park and children playing soccer on the other side of the fence.
The Dutch continue with their lives as I slowly kneel and place white tulips on the memorial. I have one tulip for each member of Griet’s family that perished in the camps. As I stand, I can’t help but let the tears fall. I don’t know how Griet has survived such sadness, such heartbreak. “Gaat het me u,” I hear behind me.

About the Author

D.E. Haggerty

I was born and raised in Wisconsin but think I’m a European (a cloggy to be exact). After spending my senior year of high school in Germany, I developed a bad case of wanderlust that is yet to be cured. After high school I returned to the U.S. to go to college ending up with a Bachelor’s degree in History at the tender age of 20 while still managing to spend time bouncing back and forth to Europe during my vacations (oh the benefits of a long-distance relationship). Unable to find a job after college and still suffering from wanderlust, I joined the U.S. Army as a Military Policewoman for 5 years (the Peace Corps was too much paperwork). While stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, I met my future husband, a flying Dutchman (literally). After being given my freedom from the Army, I went off to law school. I finished law school and moved to the Netherlands with my husband and became a commercial lawyer for more than a decade. During a six month break from the lawyering world, I wrote Unforeseen Consequences. Although I finished the book (and another book that I may or may not revise and publish), I went back to the law until I could no longer take it and upped stakes and moved to Germany to start a B&B. Three years after starting the B&B, I got the itch to try something else and decided to pull the manuscript for Unforeseen Consequences out of the attic and get it published as an e-book. Between tennis, running, traveling, singing off tune, reading, playing part-time lawyer and running the B&B, I’m working on my 2nd book.

INTERVIEW

What is the hardest part of writing your books? Keeping everything straight. I made the mistake of starting a series, which ended up being six books. The first three books, it was easy to keep up with all of the twists and turns. After book four, I had to go back and read things. I think being organized if half of writing well.

What songs are most played on your Ipod? I listen to a lot of music when I work and when I workout. Here's the list
Alandria by Foo Fighters
Walk by Foo Fighters
I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz (this song is Lane and Gresh's story from the Texas Series)
These Days by Foo Fighters
Donde Quedaran by Christian Daniels
Young Love by Eli Lieb

Do you have critique partners or beta readers? I have a couple of beta readers and critique partners. I like my beta readers to be a bit more than just readers. I think having a good beta/critique partner is essential to writing.

What book are you reading now? I'm currently reading Damaged by Ethan Stone. Ethan is one of my co-writers but I still read everything he writes.

How did you start your writing career? I'd wanted to write for a long time but never moved beyond the jotting things down phase. Then my sister quit her job and announced that while her and her husband were living in the Bahamas on a boat, she planned on writing a book. It was my dream and I wasn't going to let her upstage me. So I wrote my first book. It was terrible. But I wrote something and felt confident about what I'd done. The second book was better and I was on my way. I'm glad I took the initiative and wrote. If you're waiting for the right opportunity to write, just begin. You'll be happy once you do it.

Tell us about your next release. I'm currently in the middle of another big series. The Colorado Heart series focuses on the cowboys of Wild Bluff Ranch. Oh yeah, those cowboys also happen to be assassins. Not only are they sexy as hell, they are badass to the bone.

Writing is Sara's life. The stories fight to get out, often leaving her working on four or five books at once. She can't help but write. Along with her writing addiction she has a coffee addiction. Some nights, the only reason she stops writing and goes to sleep is for the fresh brewed coffee in the morning.
Sara enjoys writing twisted tales of passion, anger, and love with a good healthy dose of lust thrown in for fun. Almost a quarter of a century ago Sara met her lover, falling for him after knowing him for ten minutes. Sara's passion for him comes out in her stories, mixing with her passion for life, love, and good times, flowing onto the page and becoming tales from the heart.
