Interview

Can you tell us a little about the process of getting this book published? How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?

Life Lessons from Mom is a book that holds pieces of my heart and soul. It was born from a moment that touched me deeply—when my son asked me to share the lessons I’ve learned in life. That simple, earnest request inspired me to capture the wisdom I’ve gathered, the mistakes I’ve wrestled with, and the triumphs I’ve cherished.

At its core, this book is an invitation for readers to reflect on what it means to live with intention, strive for balance, and create a legacy of love, values, and purpose. Turning this vision into reality involved countless hours of writing and revising, often reflecting on how best to communicate these lessons in a way that feels both personal and universal. I worked closely with editors to refine the manuscript and collaborated with designers to ensure the final product reflected the heart of the book. The publishing process was a transformative journey in itself—one that I hope will inspire readers as much as it inspired me.

What surprised you most about getting your book published?

What surprise me most was how vulnerable it felt to put my work out into the world. It’s one thing to write privately, but sharing it publicly was both humbling and empowering. The most unexpected joy, though, came from hearing how my words resonated with readers. That connection, something I’ve always hoped for, has become the part of the process I cherish most.

Tell us a little about what you do when you aren’t writing

When I’m not writing, I focus on my professional work, consulting and helping clients with fundraising and forming strategic alliances.

In my free time, I enjoy hanging out at cafes to read and reflect. Staying active is also an important part of my life. Hot yoga, swimming, and hitting the gym are part of my routine.

As a published author, what would you say was the most pivotal point of your writing life?

The most pivotal point in my writing life was when I decided to truly embrace my voice and write with authenticity. For me, writing became more than just telling stories—it was about connecting deeply with my own experiences, emotions, and values, and putting them into words that could genuinely resonate with others.

Another unforgettable moment was holding my first published book in my hands. It felt humbling to know that my work could reach people far beyond my immediate world. That realization gave me a sense of purpose that still inspires me to keep writing today.

Where do you get your best ideas and why do you think that is?

My best ideas often come to me when I’m surrounded by nature. I’ve always felt a deep connection to its serenity and tranquility, which enables me to reflect deeply and connect with my soul. Whether it’s the sound of waves, the rustle of leaves, or the stillness of a forest, nature creates the perfect space for introspection, clearing my mind and opening it to fresh perspectives.

I also find inspiration in the transformative experiences of my life. Major transitions—such as marriage, motherhood, or leadership—have deepened my understanding of growth, resilience, integrity, and human connection. These moments, combined with my work and living across different countries and the wisdom of authors like M. Scott Peck, Eckhart Tolle, and Paulo Coelho, have shaped how I think and create.

At the core of my writing is the concept of the 'observing ego,' which allows me to turn personal experiences into universal lessons. This lens helps me craft stories that resonate with readers, offering clarity and connection.

What is the toughest criticism given to you as an author?

The toughest criticism I’ve received as an author was being told that I repeat myself and occasionally include too much description. At first, it was difficult to hear because I’ve always aimed to express my ideas fully and vividly. However, I took it as an opportunity to refine my craft, focusing on being more concise and ensuring every word serves a purpose. Striking the right balance between detail and simplicity has not only strengthened my writing, but also helped me connect more effectively with readers.

What has been your best accomplishment as a writer?

My best accomplishment as a writer has been creating books that deeply resonate with readers. Hearing from people who have found comfort, inspiration, or clarity through my words, especially in their time of need, is incredibly fulfilling and humbling.

One milestone that holds deep meaning for me is developing the 4-Quadrants Personal Growth Model for my book Life Lessons from Mom: For the Man You'll Become. This framework encapsulates the life lessons I’ve gathered and offers readers practical tools to live a purposeful and balanced life.

For me, success is about connection. If my words reach readers in their hardest moments, providing comfort or igniting growth, that’s true accomplishment. It’s about crafting narratives that go beyond my personal story, creating a space where others feel seen, understood, and empowered to move forward in their own lives.

How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

I have two unfinished books at the moment. They each mean a lot to me, but they’re still developing as I refine the ideas and find the right way to tell their stories. Writing can be a winding journey, and sometimes certain projects take longer to come together. I’m looking forward to the day when they feel ready to share with the world.
