I am a Regional Vice President overseeing operations for a healthcare company with a national presence. My expertise lies in senior living, catering to individuals typically aged 65 and above, offering both housing and healthcare services. Additionally, I hold a license as a Nursing Home Administrator in the state of Florida.
In my extensive career, I've worn many hats. As an Adjunct Professor, I've dedicated years to imparting knowledge in management, leadership, and business to aspiring healthcare professionals. Furthermore, my journey includes over two decades of military service, where I've served in various leadership roles.
Throughout my career in healthcare, I've had the privilege of training and mentoring numerous leaders, shaping the future of our industry through guidance and support.
Tell me about your journey as an author: writing process
My journey as a writer began years ago, as I crafted thoughts and training programs for leaders in various roles throughout my career. Over time, I observed recurring patterns within the industry, witnessing many junior leaders stumble amidst the complexities of healthcare management. Recognizing the absence of comprehensive guides or manuals to navigate these challenges, I embarked on a mission.
Year after year, I dedicated myself to creating mini orientation guides, and cheat sheets, providing leaders with practical tools to tackle their roles effectively. It wasn't until I completed my Doctorate in 2022 that a new vision crystallized: to craft a comprehensive orientation manual. What began as a personal endeavor soon evolved into a realization that this work could be commercialized, benefiting healthcare leaders across the board.
The past six months have been a rollercoaster of emotions, marked by countless cycles of writing, deleting, rewriting, and revising. Despite moments of self-doubt and frustration, I persisted, driven by the belief that my work could fill a crucial gap in the industry. These recent months have culminated in the completion of my book, structured around what I refer to as the "six pillars" – essential principles every healthcare leader needs to navigate their role effectively.
In essence, my journey stemmed from a desire to address a glaring industry gap, providing leaders with both a compass and a framework for success.
Tell me about your book
This book isn't your typical leadership read; it's a practical guide rooted in real-world experience, specifically tailored for leaders in the healthcare industry. Rather than delving into abstract mindsets, I offer tangible advice drawn from years of firsthand experience.
Structured around a framework of six pillars, this book outlines essential principles crucial for success in healthcare leadership. These pillars aren't arbitrary; they're carefully chosen because without them, achieving success in healthcare becomes an uphill battle.
One of the main challenges healthcare leaders face is the constant barrage of distractions and pressing issues. It's easy to get caught up in firefighting mode, losing sight of the foundational aspects that ensure smooth operations on a day-to-day basis. Too often, leaders fixate on a few major issues while neglecting others, resulting in overall inefficiency.
My philosophy, as conveyed in this book, is centered on priority management. By adhering to a structured approach based on the six pillars, leaders can achieve success through consistency. The key lies in maintaining focus on these pillars, ensuring that each aspect receives the attention it deserves.
Reflecting on my own journey, I recognize the value of such guidance from the outset. Had I been privy to these insights earlier in my career, I would have spared myself numerous headaches. This book serves as a roadmap for healthcare leaders, offering a clear path to navigate the complexities of their roles with confidence and effectiveness.
